GitLab CI is a part of GitLab, a web application with an API that stores its state in a database. It manages projects/builds and provides a nice user interface, besides all the features of GitLab. GitLab Runner is an application which processes builds.
At AWS re:Invent, we have launched support for blue/green deployments for services hosted using AWS Fargate and Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS). Blue/green deployments help you minimize downtime during application updates. They allow you to launch a new version of your application alongside the old version and test the new version before you reroute traffic to it. You can also monitor the deployment process and, if there is an issue, quickly roll back.
In this workshop, you will create a new service in AWS Fargate that uses AWS CodeDeploy to manage the deployments, testing, and traffic cutover for you.
Developers love Git for its raw speed, distributed nature, and the fact that it was originally built by Linus Torvalds. What we don't love is the fact that, out of the box, Git has terrible support for tracking large binary files! Fortunately, developers from Atlassian and GitHub have created an open source project to solve this problem: Git LFS (Large File Support). This means researchers, web designers, game developers, multimedia producers, and all others who need to work with large data and rich media can move off legacy centralized systems and start using modern version control. This session will introduce Git LFS architecture, CLI and SourceTree usage, and how to build an effective Git LFS workflow with Bitbucket Server & Cloud for a professional software team.
Learn how Autodesk uses Git LFS at scale, how to avoid pitfalls, and how they ensure that their 4000+ engineers have Git and Git LFS properly installed and ready to use.

Michigan IT Symposium 2017 - CI/CD Workflow TutorialJeffrey Sica
When developing custom applications the cloud gives developers tools for better testing and automated upgrades. This environment lends itself to the benefits of a Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipeline. By building tests and deployment scripts up front, rather than an afterthought, we can greatly minimize IT effort when making code changes.
This tutorial aims to provide foundational knowledge on the CI/CD mindset and give practical experience using one solution (Gitlab CI). The concepts and experience provided will be applicable to other build systems such as Jenkins or TravisCI.

DevOps and Containers go hand in hand. DevOps industry is expected to benefit significantly benefit from the container eco-system and technology. This keynote talks about the challenges and opportunities around deploying containers into production use cases.
Every customer-facing project aims to achieve high uptime. We, as developers, write thorough unit and integration tests to catch as many bugs as possible. We even set up staging environments to simulate production as well as we can. Yet, downtime still happens and not only once we had to revert a change.
Blue-Green deployment is a technique that allows us to ship code with high confidence, minimizing the risk of errors. We will go through the why and what of Blue-Green,as well as show how you can start doing it using Spinnaker.

Snap CI enables software teams to do Continuous Delivery (CD). When practicing CD, the goal is to automate the deployment process and build software in such a way that it can be deployed to production any time. As a deployment tool, Snap CI cannot have downtime. If it did, our users would not be able to deploy their own software. We had to change Snap CI’s architecture to ensure zero-downtime and we chose to do blue-green deployments to achieve it. In this approach, we had to maintain two instances of our system: one active instance, and one inactive instance. Based on our experiences, we will share some tricks of the trade from the numerous challenges we faced such as: making the application aware of whether it was active or inactive, handling data migrations, and babysitting long-running jobs.

Docker and Puppet for Continuous IntegrationGiacomo Vacca
Today developers want to change the code, build and deploy often, even several times per day.
New versions of software may need to be tested on different distributions, and with different configurations.
Achieving this with Virtual Machines it’s possible, but it’s very resource and time consuming. Docker provides an incredibly good solution for this, in particular if combined with Continuous Integration tools like Jenkins and Configuration Management tools like Puppet.
This presentation focuses on the opportunities to configure automatically Docker images, use Docker containers as disposable workers during your tests, and even running your Continuous Integration system inside Docker.

Scala, docker and testing, oh my! mario camouJ On The Beach
Testing is important for any system you write and at eBay it is no different. We have a number of complex Scala and Akka based applications with a large number of external dependencies. One of the challenges of testing this kind of application is replicating the complete system across all your environments: development, different flavors of testing (unit, functional, integration, capacity and acceptance) and production. This is especially true in the case of integration and capacity testing where there are a multitude of ways to manage system complexity. Wouldn’t it be nice to define the testing system architecture in one place that we can reuse in all our tests? It turns out we can do exactly that using Docker. In this talk, we will first look at how to take advantage of Docker for integration testing your Scala application. After that we will explore how this has helped us reduce the duration and complexity of our tests.
Cette présentation vous montrera comment utiliser et profiter rapidement de Docker, quelles commandes utiliser et quelles fonctionnalités sont disponibles.

Why React Native as a Strategic Advantage for Startup Innovation.pdfayushiqss
Do you know that React Native is being increasingly adopted by startups as well as big companies in the mobile app development industry? Big names like Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest have already integrated this robust open-source framework.
In fact, according to a report by Statista, the number of React Native developers has been steadily increasing over the years, reaching an estimated 1.9 million by the end of 2024. This means that the demand for this framework in the job market has been growing making it a valuable skill.
But what makes React Native so popular for mobile application development? It offers excellent cross-platform capabilities among other benefits. This way, with React Native, developers can write code once and run it on both iOS and Android devices thus saving time and resources leading to shorter development cycles hence faster time-to-market for your app.
Let’s take the example of a startup, which wanted to release their app on both iOS and Android at once. Through the use of React Native they managed to create an app and bring it into the market within a very short period. This helped them gain an advantage over their competitors because they had access to a large user base who were able to generate revenue quickly for them.

The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.
2. What is Continuous
Integration/Delivery
(CI/CD)?
Continuous Integration is the practice of integrating
code into a shared repository and building/testing each
change automatically, as early as possible - usually
several times a day.
Continuous Delivery adds that the software can be
released to production at any time, often by
automatically pushing changes to a staging system.
Continuous Deployment goes further and pushes
changes to production automatically.
3. Continuous Integration
• Detects errors as quickly as possible
• Fix while fresh in your mind
• Reduces integration problems
• Smaller problems are easier to digest
• Don’t compound problems
• Allows teams to develop faster, with more confidence
Continuous Delivery
• Ensures that every change to the system is releasable
• Lowers risk of each release - makes releases “boring”
• Delivers value more frequently
• Get fast feedback on what users care about

4. Registering a
Runner
• First of alI install a Runner compatible with
GitLab CI.
• Install docker if you need to run your builds on
docker containers.
• Go into runner section of your repo and enable a
runner.
• Mention tags carefully as gitlab ci will pick up jobs
according to tags.
5. Add triggers
