Continuing education is generally refered to as adult education, as it is aimed at adult learners. It
is a form of post secondary learning. It includes degree credit courses by non-traditional students,
non-degree career training, workforce training, etc.
Requirements are imposed by different certifications, in order to improve the value and
authenticity of the learning. These requirements also aim at encouraging the professionals to
expand their knowledge base. These requirements are usually satisfied through university
coursework, extension courses or conferences and seminars attendance.
The most obvious advantage of continuing education is that it helps a person in career
advancement. By gaining new knowkedge and skills, a working professional may mave up in
career. Second advantage is that the person concerned may change careers. This is enabled by
acquiring knowledge in a new or a different field.
Disadvantages: Majority of continuing education certifications use the format of distance
learning and self study. There is absence of real classrom learning and interactions. There is also
absence of live mentorship. This can make the process less productive.

Continuing education is generally refered to as adult education, as .pdf

  • 1. Continuing education is generally refered to as adult education, as it is aimed at adult learners. It is a form of post secondary learning. It includes degree credit courses by non-traditional students, non-degree career training, workforce training, etc. Requirements are imposed by different certifications, in order to improve the value and authenticity of the learning. These requirements also aim at encouraging the professionals to expand their knowledge base. These requirements are usually satisfied through university coursework, extension courses or conferences and seminars attendance. The most obvious advantage of continuing education is that it helps a person in career advancement. By gaining new knowkedge and skills, a working professional may mave up in career. Second advantage is that the person concerned may change careers. This is enabled by acquiring knowledge in a new or a different field. Disadvantages: Majority of continuing education certifications use the format of distance learning and self study. There is absence of real classrom learning and interactions. There is also absence of live mentorship. This can make the process less productive. Solution Continuing education is generally refered to as adult education, as it is aimed at adult learners.
