However, the city’s IT infrastructure had become outdated. To achieve the growth and sustainability necessary for a more promising future, Chief Infor- mation Officer Jorge Pazos began to investigate what innovations were pos- sible within IT that could leverage exist- ing technology investments yet find new ways to generate revenue.

one communication network nowadays due to the availability
of a wide variety of access technologies. On the other hand,
service replication has become a trivial approach in overlay
networks to provide a high availability of data and better QoS.
In this paper, we consider such a multi-homed client seeking
a replicated service in overlay network (e.g., CDN, peer-topeer).
Our aim is to improve the content distribution by
proposing a new model for being applied at the applicationlevel
and in a fully distributed way. Basically, our model
proposes to determine the best mirror server that could be
reached through each client’s network interface based on
application utility function. Then, it consists of downloading
the requested content from the determined best servers
simultaneously through their associated interfaces. Each best
server should deliver a specific estimated range of bytes (i.e.,
content chunk) to an independent TCP socket opened at the
client side for being finally aggregated at the applicationlevel.
Our real experiments show that our model is able to
considerably improve the QoS (e.g., content transfer time)
perceived by the client comparing to the traditional content
distribution techniques.
Escalating website and Web application complexity, content volumes, refresh rates and user demands surpass what traditional content delivery networks (CDNs) can effectively manage. This, combined with the lack of transparency and control in many systems, results in poor performance and end-user experience, ultimately compromising business outcomes.

As consumers demand ever-greater amounts of high-quality content over the Internet,
service providers (SPs) are finding it difficult to increase revenues while containing costs.
This is due mainly to two trends: (1) over-the-top (OTT) content providers have outsourced
the delivery of content to pure-play content delivery network (CDN) companies, and (2) traffic
growth (with no resulting revenue benefit) is increasing network build-out and maintenance
costs for SPs.
A content delivery network or content distribution network (CDN) is a large distributed system of servers deployed in multiple data centers across the Internet. The goal of a CDN is to serve content to end-users with high availability and high performance. CDNs serve a large fraction of the Internet content today, including web objects (text, graphics and scripts), downloadable objects (media files, software, documents), applications (e-commerce, portals), live streaming media, on-demand streaming media, and social networks.

One of the new companies jumping into the Content Delivery Networking (CDN) arena is Cotendo. They are a fairly new CDN Service Provider and are solely focused on the CDN market. Cotendo's strategy is unique: break into the business by capturing some of Akamaiʼs market share in the Dynamic Content area (Dynamic Site Acceleration). Not a bad strategy. If nothing else, you have to give them some kudos for their uniqueness.
Some of the newer CDN technologies can address the logic level in a number of innovative ways. First, they can more intelligently cache information close to end users with mobile devices, and use the location as a cache-key. So, for example, a weather site can, with this type of logic, cache appropriate detailed weather information for a user in the CDN based on their initial GPS contact point. This weather data can be later served to other users located a few blocks away, eliminating the need for additional round trips.
A website application developer struggles to address two mobilespecific variables: the differences in mobile devices’ display and processing capabilities, and the per-session variability in connection throughput.Neither of these variables can be mitigated by legacy CDN services because mobile users receive more dynamic content, which cannot be cached by traditional CDN services.
