Containerization refers to the transport of cargo in standardized intermodal containers that can be loaded on ships, trains, and trucks. It originated centuries ago but was widely applied after WWII and influenced globalization. Containerization uses container ships that carry intermodal containers in a technique that involves efficiently loading and unloading containers in ports or on ships by stacking them in units called Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEU) or Forty-foot Equivalent Units (FEU).
