Bronzeville is a neighborhood on the south side of Chicago that is 85.5% Black with a median income of $27,800. It was settled in the late 19th-early 20th century during the Great Migration, as African Americans moved north for greater opportunities. However, nearly a third of residents left after World War II due to economic decline. The neighborhood maintained segregation through public housing projects like Ida B. Wells in the 1930s-40s, though these were later demolished in the 2000s.
