PRESTRESSED CONCRETE
• Form of concrete used in construction which is pre-stressed
by being placed under compression prior to supporting any
loads beyond its own dead weight. The compression is
produced by the tensioning if high-strength “tendons”.
• Classified into two ways:
1 . Pre-tensioning.
2 . Post-tensioning.

• The steel wires or tendon are
tensioned first and the
concrete is poured later.
• Tendons tries to shrink back to
the original length but resisted
by the bond between the
concrete thereby transferring
compressive force to concrete.

in sheathing at suitable places in the
member before casting and later
after hardening of concrete.

  • 9. PRESTRESSED CONCRETE • Form of concrete used in construction which is pre-stressed by being placed under compression prior to supporting any loads beyond its own dead weight.
