The aim of the course "The World Around Us" is to introduce students to English-speaking countries like the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and India. Each page of the course is devoted to a specific country to provide students with an overview and develop their English language skills. In August of 2014 I visited Portland, ME to see the Circus Conservatory of America and to present a proposal about the Library of the Circus Conservatory of America to a group of librarians. Those in attendance included librarians from University of Southern Maine, Maine College of Art, Portland Public Library, University of New England, Bates College, and Colby. The presentation consisted of a brief overview of circus arts, what types of materials the Library of the Circus Conservatory of America would collect, and a discussion about how the Circus Conservatory of America and the libraries at the presentation could collaborate to create a regional performing arts collection.

The drive to mainstream indigenous knowledge into student leadership development in Zimbabwean higher education has recently gained currency. Student leadership development has a Eurocentric historical background and it has continued on this paradigm in the post-independence era. Framed on decolonial theoretical framework this study interrogates the challenges that are faced by student affairs practitioners in their efforts to include indigenous epistemologies into student leadership development programmes. The research was designed as a case study that employed qualitative methods of data collection and analysis focussing on student development practice at three state universities in Zimbabwe namely Bindura University of Science Education, Chinhoyi University of Science Education and Great Zimbabwe University. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with student Affairs practitioners and analysed through NVivo qualitative data analysis software. Research findings indicate that student affairs practitioners face a myriad of problems which hinder the mainstreaming of the knowledge of the local indigenous people into leadership development. These problems include lack of training to empower them with skills to include indigenous epistemologies into student leadership training, lack of funding and policy guidelines. Theorising on this complexity the research recommends the designing of leadership programmes that imbue indigenous epistemologies of the local people in student development such as hunhu/ubuntu values.

Abstract
In a rapidly changing transnational eduscape, it is timely to consider how best to conceptualize international
education. Here we argue for a conceptual relocation from international student to international study as a
means to bridge the diverse literatures on international education. International study also enables recog-
nition of the multiple contributions (and resistances) of international students as agents of knowledge for-
mation; it facilitates consideration of the mobility of students in terms of circulations of knowledge; and it is a
means to acknowledge the complex spatialities of international education, in which students and educators
are emotionally and politically networked together through knowledge contributions.

I Introduction: thinking beyond
‘international student’
as a category
Recent decades have seen a considerable
increase in the volume of ‘international’ stu-
dents worldwide;

the number of students
enrolled outside their country of citizenship
has seen a five-fold increase from 0.8 million
in 1975 to 4.1 million in 2010 (OECD, 2012).
This is a global phenomenon – UNESCO sta-
tistics suggest that virtually every country in
the world has experienced an expansion in the
number of international students in the first
decade of the 21st century (http://stats.uis.unes-
co.org/unesco). For instance, from 2003 to
2010 the number of international students in
Egypt grew from 27,158 to 49,011; in the
Czech Republic from 10,338 to 34,992; and in
the Republic of Korea from 7,843 to 59,194

Abstract
In a rapidly changing transnational eduscape, it is timely to consider how best to conceptualize international
education. Here we argue for a conceptual relocation from international student to international study as a
means to bridge the diverse literatures on international education. International study also enables recog-
nition of the multiple contributions (and resistances) of international students as agents of knowledge for-
mation; it facilitates consideration of the mobility of students in terms of circulations of knowledge; and it is a
means to acknowledge the complex spatialities of international education, in which students and educators
are emotionally and politically networked together through knowledge contributions.

I Introduction: thinking beyond
‘international student’
as a category
Recent decades have seen a considerable
increase in the volume of ‘international’ stu-
dents worldwide;

the number of students
enrolled outside their country of citizenship
has seen a five-fold increase from 0.8 million
in 1975 to 4.1 million in 2010 (OECD, 2012).
This is a global phenomenon – UNESCO sta-
tistics suggest that virtually every country in
the world has experienced an expansion in the
number of international students in the first
decade of the 21st century (http://stats.uis.unes-
co.org/unesco). For instance, from 2003 to
2010 the number of international students in
Egypt grew from 27,158 to 49,011; in the
Czech Republic from 10,338 to 34,992; and in
the Republic of Korea from 7,843 to 59,194

students in the so-called major receiving coun-
tries (US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and
some European countries) that so far has
spurred most interest from the research commu-
nity – from scholars (Findlay et al., 2012; Waters
and Brooks, 2011), educational institutions (King
et al., 2010), think-tanks (Mulley and Sachrajda,
2011) and educational providers and policy-
makers (British Council, 2012; UKCISA, 2008).
This increase in international student num-
bers is part of a wider ‘transn.

Strengths and weknesses
The audiolingual method originated during World War II as the Army Method and is based on structural views of language and behaviorist theories of language learning. It rejects the use of the native language and stresses speaking and listening before reading and writing. While similar to the Direct Method, the audiolingual method focuses more on grammar drills than vocabulary. Strengths include an active classroom with correct imitation drilled, developing strong speaking and listening skills through repetition, and immersing students in the language. Weaknesses are that it can be boring for stronger students and not develop grammar or meaning as fully as some other methods.
