EDUCATION
 The use of computers in the academic setting has
been growing with the increases in computing
power and the lowering of the cost. Now schools
have computer labs that give students access to
resources they may not have at home. Some
examples of computer uses are: teaching software
development, hardware design, novel users of
microcontrollers. The applications used are also
indispensable to computers in education today and
into the future.
BUSINESS
 Shops and supermarkets use software, which
calculate the bills. Taxes can be calculated and paid
online. Accounting is done using computers. One
can predict future trends of business using artificial
intelligence software. Software is used in major
stock markets. One can do trading online. There
are fully automated factories running on software.
COMMUNICATION
 Software is widely used here. Also all mobile
phones have software embedded in them. It would
be easier for the user to communicate with other
people.
SCIENCE
 Scientists rely on computers to evaluate information
effectively and to expedite the lengthy, meticulous
process of collecting and analyzing evidence. They
use computer software programs with algorithms to
calculate traces of data and to find forensic
matches. In doing so, forensic scientists are able to
conclude a depiction of a crime, how it occurred
and who and what was implicated in the event,
often solving a case so justice is served.
MEDICINE
 You can diagnose diseases. You can learn the
cures. Software is used in magnetic resonance
imaging to examine the internal organs of the
human body. Software is used for performing
surgery. Computers are used to store patient data.
GOVERNMENT
 Various departments of the Government use
computer for their planning, control and law
enforcement activities. To name a few –
Traffic, Tourism, Information &
Broadcasting, Education, Aviation and many others.
INFORMATION STORAGE
 With the development of the computer’s storage
capacity came various applications. Encyclopedias
and reference materials, which come in bulk, can
now be stored in one high density Compact Disk,
(CD) USB flash drive or Digital Versatile Disk
(DVD).
RESEARCH
 The internet has provided a handy reliable source
of information at our fingertips. With what ever
subject we enroll in the information for essays is
vast and easy to use. Doing the essays they have
also become easier. With computers and their spell
checking to the ability to type over 50 words a
minutes; computers have made the essay writing
process a dream.
ENTERTAINMENT
 Computers started as very simplistic machines for
storing and transferring data. Most of these files
were text-based reports used in a work
environment. As technology advanced, computers
became increasingly versatile in what they could
do. With the creation of the Internet and faster
processors, file sharing and entertainment became
a popular use for personal computers everywhere.
Computers have endless uses in the entertainment
industry by directly marketing products to users.
DEFENCE
 There is software embedded in almost every
weapon. Software is used for controlling the flight
and targeting in ballistic missiles. Software is used
to control access to atomic bombs.
CRIME INVESTIGATION
 High-end computer devices have ensured that
justice is more effective. CCTV cameras and other
computer operated security systems have reduced
the amount of crime. And if it still happens there are
many ways to track down the criminal in no time.
Forensic science employs computers for many of
its operations related to investigations.
BANKING
 The banking is done by computer software. They
provide security, speed and convenience. You can
withdraw money from ATMs and deposit money in
any branch.
WEATHER ANALYSIS
 Weather monitoring agencies use computers to
analyze and predict weather. In advance, the
country can prepare for the approaching bad
weather or typhoon before it hits the area.
INTERNET
 It is a network of almost all the computers in the world.
You can browse through much more information than you
could do in a library. That is because computers can
store enormous amounts of information. You also have
very fast and convenient access to information. Through
E-Mail, you can communicate with a person sitting
thousands of miles away in a few seconds. Chat software
enables one to chat with another on a real-time basis.
Video conferencing tools are becoming readily available
to the common man.
WORD PROCESSING
 Word Processing software automatically corrects
spelling and grammar mistakes. If the content of a
document repeats, you don't have to type it each
time. You can use the copy and paste features. You
can print documents and make several copies. It is
easier to read a word-processed document than a
handwritten one. You can add images to your
document.
TRANSPORTATION
 One can easily go to another place by cars, trains,
ships, planes and other transportations.
SPORTS
 Software is used for making umpiring decisions.
There is simulation software using which a
sportsperson can practice his skills. Computers are
also to identify flaws in technique.
