1. A COMPLETE BUSINESSPERSON
By: Vu Tran – November 1994
A “Complete” businessperson is somebody who successfully achieves his or her goals in life, and also
meets the high standard of righteousness. To reach this level, an individual must prove to have the
following:
Technical Knowledge: This is an effective and necessary tool that can help a person in term of career
advancement. The knowledge or technical savvy can be obtained from education, personal research and
development, work experiences, etc. In general, a person who excels in this area will be able to handle a
key position or vital responsibilities in a corporation or organization.
Marketing Strategy: This is a “business-oriented” mindset that allows a person to clearly see his or her
position with respect to the career path and lifestyle. This vision will enable an individual to set one’s
professional objectives and focus on life. Usually, a person who already has a strategy in mind will be
very efficient and reliable, because his or her work performance will always be the product of high-level
concentration, considerate interaction, righteous conduct, wise decision and enduring patience. This
person does not represent oneself by only thinking of personal interests, and does not make decisions
based on the immediate or short future. But instead, this individual sees a broader view that covers one’s
entire life. This person focuses on how to improve the business as well as to enhance the level of
productivity and efficiency of the entire organization.
Insightful Philosophy: This is a personal view of how one defines “life” and it cannot be limited to
career advancement, business growth, financial stability, etc. It should cover the entire existence and
evolution of an individual in terms of personal attitude, mental state, family condition, social behavior,
and spiritual development. With a clear and indepth psychological as well as spiritual perspectives of
“life” a person can be more flexible, versatile and reliable. By being more flexible this person can adapt
well to many unpredictable conditions of the business nature, in which there are constant changes and
they are usually fast-paced. Additionally, one should have the confidence to face new challenges as well
as the wisdom to handle many unknown variables or pressures of new business ventures with a tolerable
margin of errors and acceptable risks. Being more reliable requires conscience and loyalty. This
conscience will guide a person to make righteous decisions and it will help an individual to become a
“team member” who works for the success of the group or organization, rather than personal benefits or
interests.
Human Relationship: This particular aspect can be natural to some people because they are blessed
with the instincts and personalities that help them to always get along well with others. For most of us,
this is something we constantly need to work on through our entire lives in order to learn how we can
control our temper, or how we can increase our patience, or how we can develop more compassion, or
how we can wisely defeat our ego, etc.
We should always add the variables of Practicality, Efficiency, Trustworthiness and Confidence in all
of our thinking processes. When we decide to do something we should be practical, efficient,
trustworthy and confident. The ultimate goal is to develop Compassion, Wisdom and Courage.
