A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
3. Tremz- Active. GRM Daily.
This is the email that I compiled to contact GRM
Daily about the interest that I had in Tremz’s
music for my trailer. As he is a Liverpool rapper,
and his videos are in urban areas of Liverpool.
Mostly estates and random streets.
My trailer is for a Gritty Urban Drama, so his
music does represent Liverpool in different
ways. To other rappers, I am also looking at
more Urban music that represent their areas a
lot.
This email is to show that I made an attempt to
contact them to use the music without any
trouble or copyright claims.
4. Heartbeat sound effect.
This heartbeat sound effect might be needed. I get
the URL to each video so I know what I need to
get. The heartbeat sound effect on YouTube is no
copyright and free download.
This means that I don’t need to compose any
emails to contact the maker of this to have
permission to use this in my trailer.
Getting this was easier than getting something that
needs permission to be able to use it. All I had to
do was download this and have it for my trailer.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLXLo3rEdrE
5. Aitch- Taste
Aitch’s song taste is shot around the area’s he grew up
from in Manchester, it’s shot in estates and cars. Also this
song was licensed by SME (Sony Music Entertainment).
So I had to find a way there email to contact them.
This song, is shot on estates and you can tell where he is
from because of his strong accent. You can tell it was
shot in Manchester and where he is from.
Using email to ask for permission was harder to do than
just getting something royalty free as I had to do
research into what company managed this music video.

6. (FREE) Stormzy Type Beat 2019 "Boogeyman" |
Grime Instrumental Free Type Beat 2019
This music had been used in the
audio of my main poster and the 2.5d
parallax. I haven’t had to use any
form of contact as it clearly says in
the title of the music, it is free
therefore no copyright.
I didn't need any permission to use
this music.
8. Sports Adventure/
drama. Up beat music,
rap, little dramatic
music, dramatic hard
beats could suggest
heart beat. Music is
cut up. Zidane A 21st
century portrait. Has
calming music where
the camera pans
Zidane's movement.
My Idea is to go through Liverpool's 18/19
season, through the low and high point. Losing
to Manchester city. Going on an insane winning
streak to keep up with man city. Not winning
the league with 97 points. Losing 3-0 to
Barcelona in champions league semi final first
leg at camp nou. 4-0 win at anfield against
Barcelona in the 2nd leg. Then winning the
champions league against Tottenham Hotspurs.
Get people to talk about it and what it meant.
Dramatic music is needed for this kind of thing .
Adventure music.
Movies like Rocky and Creed are very similar in the way they’re
presented, they both have an element of drama in them. The music is
Creed is completely different than it is in Rocky. Rocky is presented as
more of a drama because the music is dramatic and adventurous. But in
Creed it is upbeat hip hop, and when there are low moments in the film
the music always matches the scene. For example in Creed 2 when he is
training for his second fight against Viktor Drago, where his first fight he
won but controversially. He is training hard for for his second fight to
beat him and the music is at the start very dramatic as it seems like he is
about to give up, but then the music turns upbeat and fast as he starts
to get the hang of it, and then he starts to do everything and gets used
to it and he presented as a machine.
10. Urban Drama
Genre of film- Urban Drama
Age Rating of film-12
Target Audience- Mid to Late Teens
Location/setting- Bootle, Liverpool. Why? It’s local many council estates so easy to look Urban.
Characters- There are 3 Characters. Two are 16, one is 18. The 18yr old is the leader of their crew, and the two 16yr olds are sick of him
as they are his ‘workers’. They are all males. The 16yr olds are vengeful people. While the 18yr old is abit aggressive and can take it too
far.
Crew- Camera man, director, editor(me), cast. Why? These are essential for films so that’s why they are going to be included into my
film.
Beginning- It starts with one of the 16yr old teenagers waking up to lots of texts messages form his best friend (other 16yr old teenager)
one text reads “Meet me now lad at the strand” He gets up and immediately get’s dressed to leave. Get’s a call off his mate telling him
to hurry, so he starts running
Middle- When he meets his mate they see their boss. The 18yr old aggressively says “Wa are youse doing here, we don’t start the week
till tomorrow” The best friend pulls a knife out and gets close to the boss. Threatening each other while Jack (The 16yr old who got
woken up by the texts) is in an awkward position, the boss says out of nowhere “If you stab me, youse’ll have people on ye for the rest
of ye lives” Without hesitation Jack pushes the blade into his boss and they run to their houses to get any money, clothes and food to go
on the run for abit and keep their heads down. They meet up again and get on a bus and then Jack’s best friend John starts explaining
why he pulled the blade out on his boss. He explains that he over heard that the boss was planning on dumping the two of them off by
killing them “He wanted to kill us”.
End- They’re walking down the street and see Lloyd (18yr old) with a gang of people behind him all with weapons late at night, they
start chasing Jack and John, Jack and John have to ditch their belongings to run faster. They try and carry on running but John trips over
and is hurt and not able to get back up even with the help of Jack he shouts “GO, RUN!”
Why would people like it?- I think people would like it because it’s very real and it’s something that could happen in real life,
somewhere like London on council estates where there is a lot of knife crime and intentions to sell drugs and make money fast, it’s very
possible for that to happen somewhere like Liverpool. It also shows people what their kids could get up to so they have to be on top of
anything like that to make sure they don’t get involved in anything like that. It’s relatable.
12. Found footage horror
Genre of film- Found footage horror
Age Rating Of Film- 15
Target Audience- Mid teens to late 20’s
Location/setting- Abandoned basement, find the footage in a forest.
Characters- A group of 3 teens are messing around in a forest and end up finding the footage. They go to the location and it
goes wrong.
Crew- Camera man, actors, villain.
Beginning- The teens are messing around, as they fall they feel something their hand has landed on, as he lifts it up he sees a
usb, they are all intrigued to see what’s on it. So they plug it into a laptop/computer. They are told the location. They go to
investigate what has went wrong in that recording.
Middle- They start walking through a field to a house, when they open the door it’s just stairs, it looks to be an underground
basement. They walk through as noises
13. Comparison
As I had my heart set on doing a Urban Drama, looking at the things that are common conventions
for a Found Footage Horror, it shows how close these two genres are to each other, as the weapons
that are mostly used in these films are similar, they’re mainly knifes as they are easy to get hold of.
The thing that I found different was the setting for them, the found footage horror I was looking for
abandoned places which is completely different to what I was looking at for my Urban Drama, as I
was looking for urban area and local council estates so it can have that urban look and feel to my
trailer.
I was trying to do an adventure film about Liverpool FC and that 4-0 comeback against
Barcelona but there was only one movie that could be classes as a classical movie which is "Zidane"
it follows a masterclass performance by the legend with classical music in the background. It didn't
really help with trying to represent my trailer as an adventure film if I had done this. Whereas the
other genres had many films and TV shows about the genre and showed me how i can represent it
in many ways.

16. Doing this story board I started on ‘StoryBoardthat’
on google. I was able to find and use everything I
needed to be able to get my image through on
what I want for my trailer. It clearly shows how they
should react to what’s said and what is being done.
It shows what should happen in each scene and
what need to happen and the facial expressions
and the body language, it really tells a lot, if they’re
angry, sad or happy. Among lots of other things, it
really brings my idea to life for it.
I used story board that, and photoshop to fit the
screenshots into the frames of the template. I like
story board that more to photoshop as it is so
much more straight forward and just completely
easier to do, while on photoshop I had to do a lot
more to do, maybe not on this particular one but
overall.
18. Recce Template
Site location (area of interest)
Gloucester Road.
Strand Shopping Centre (OutSide)
Anfield Road
Worcester Road
Site contact No-one as they would be public places
Availability They are within walking distance of each
other as they are all local.
Safety issues Roads, cars. Falling over.
Electricity No real source of electricity in case of
charging, but will be prepared for that by
having everything fully charged.
Toilets None around except at the Strand, as there
are pubs and fast food restaurants that
have toilets.
Sunlight As most of it will be shot late at night, we
don’t have to worry about it.
Windows There will be a lot of windows as most of it
will be shot on streets.
Noise There hopefully won’t be a lot of noise as it
will be at night, so no cars or crowds of
people.
Space (suitability) There is a lot of space for this to be shot.
How to get there We can walk as they are all within 30 mins
within each other.
Prepared by Zac McCall (me)
Signature and date Zac McCall. 20/01/20
Doing the recce makes sure that is
okay to film there and to see if I need
to contact anyone and needed
anyone’s signature. Also it made me
think of ways on how to get around of
there being no electricity in case of
charging. It made me more prepared.
This compared to the risk assessment
was harder as I had to do research just
incase there was anyone I needed to
contact. In the end there wasn’t as it
is a public place all of them are.
The recce just helped me made any
adjustments just incase I wasn’t able
to go to one of the places I wanted, so
I looked for backups just incase of that
happening.
19. Doing a risk assessment helped me analyse the risks and the dangers that are
around where I want to film. This also helped me as I can now easily spot obvious
and hard dangers that can affect me and others when I film.
Compared to the recce this was easier, as there are many dangers in our day to
day lives, such as a simple fall can really injure you. While doing the recce helped
a lot with confirming where I film, the risk assessment helped me with the safety
of those areas and made me even more aware of the surrounding and what I
should look out for.
20. Production Schedule
Date and time Task/Activity Equipment /Props
required
Personnel Health & Safety Issues
15/02/20 Filming, night time. Inside Camera and tripod. Me, Jason, Matt and
Ryan.
Could fall over.
16/02/20 Filming, night time. Outside Camera and tripod Me, Jason, Matt and
Ryan.
Slippery as of recent weather and could fall over so
be careful when walking and filming and watch
where you are going.
17/02/20 Extra filming day if needed. Camera and tripod. Me, Jason, Matt and
Ryan.
Same as the previous two filming days.
21/02/20 Editing day Computer Me Take frequent breaks to not cause strain on the
eyes.
23/02/20 Editing day (effects, sounds
and music being added)
Computer Me Take frequent breaks to not cause strain on the
eyes.
The production schedule helped me with planning when I needed to film and edit. It
also helped me plan out what I need at all times during this process. Also it helped
me think of the safety of the personal and the equipment involved in this trailer.
The one I enjoyed the most out of all the three (recce, risk assessment and
production schedule) was the risk assessment as it made me more aware of what I
need to look out for during filming.
21. Script
Doing a script has helped me bring my story
board to words, and made me match the scene
and then from this I was able to start to make
my trailer as it gave me a solid foundation for
my trailer.
There is a lot of slang for this trailer as it is
urban and it would be non-urban if there’s a lot
of sophisticated language used rather than the
slang and how the words are pronounced in
different ways.
I used Microsoft Word to type my script out, to
do my trailer I used Premier Pro to edit it. The
difference between these two soft wears is that
one is to type and one is to edit video clips,
either way I enjoyed both. But the stress that
came with premier pro. I had to re-do my trailer
2 times as they didn’t save even though I had
saved them before hand. Using word was much
easier and I was done in one day
23. Responses and support.
Each post started to pick up more and more
momentum each post with 9 likes being the peak
on my teaser trailer. Most of the likes are by
friends, family and my partner, also some random
people showing support. I have recived many likes
and views on my work, and even some messages
of improvement which helped along the way.
It seemed that my teaser trailer was my most liked
post and viewed. This showed me that all the time
and effort I put into it really payed off.
24. I used Instagram as my social media platform where I would be able to post content related to my film and get a response from
it. It also helped me with seeing what my audience liked and didn't like, so I could improve my trailer and my other posts and aim
them more at the audience I am aiming at. I am aiming for people who are under 35, and 90% of the users on Instagram are
under 35. That is a big reason why I chose to used Instagram. When asked what people's favourite genre was, nobody said an
Urban Drama. But action and comedy are both two big elements of an urban drama, if i could interpret them into my trailer and
campaign, I would have an audience.
I used Instagram also because i find it easy to use and i use it in my everyday life, rather that twitter which is confusing to me and
hard to use, whereas more people use Instagram and it is straight forward.
27. For my teaser and actual trailer, I used
Premier Pro. This was to edit and get my
footage how i needed it to provide good
content and release my trailers. I used
urban and local estates to record, as then
the audience can get a very real feeling
behind it.
Trying to get a day were the weather was
good was hard, and we couldn't record
outside, so I decided to record inside as
the wind was dangerous, according to the
news.
I used Photoshop to edit my posters, and
it took me a long time to get used to
Photoshop, whereas premier pro was
more enjoyable and easier to use. It took
me longer to do the posters, compared to
the trailers.
28. 2.5D PARALAX
I used photoshop for this, a 2.5d parallax is a moving still
image, I edited mine to move closer to the screen using my
final trailer, and even added some music in the background
also. This proved to be one of the easier tasks I was able to
do on photoshop, but I had trouble with it still.
If I had to pick one between photoshop or premier pro, I
would choose premier pro as I found it so much more
enjoyable and I was able to have a mess around with my
trailer to see if any of the video and audio effects would go
with my trailer.
Whereas on photoshop if I had a little mess around with
effects to see what works, almost always I would lose all my
progress and have to start again.
I also used photo shop for my mockup poster as well, so I
could see what my final poster could look like and I could
have a little gist of what I needed to do.
Mockup poster
Final poster
29. My teaser trailer and my full trailer where both edited on
premier pro, this was enjoyable as I had time to look for
the song that went with the pace of the trailers and I used
grime as that’s a convention of this genre, real
music/reality rap. I enjoyed editing because I was able to
effects that went well, as well as fonts also. Urban and
gritty effect to it.
Some special effect I was able to use was using a gradual
fade for my audio at the end as the visuals basically stop
and all you hear is music and text on the screen that says
"coming soon"
Using premier pro is much better than photoshop even
though I had my troubles with both, the one if found
easier and just better was premier pro I enjoyed editing
and making something that was my own.
31. Similar genre, time lines. Blue story-film, Gritty urban
drama. The film was first announced on the 9th March 2019, the first poster was then released on the 1st September, and on the poster it announced the release date which is 22nd November. The
first poster was released quite a while after the first announcement of the film, I think this was to maintain hype, as other urban drama like “Top Boy” had done the same thing. As the new
series was announced on 2nd April, but the first poster was released on the 23rd August. Both films had the whole summer to release and plan for the release then, but it must have been
left to early autumn and the early winter to attract more attention, because they’re both big urban dramas.
The first trailer for Blue Story, was released on 3rd September, and it currently sitting on 1.4 million views, I have not been able to find any teaser trailers even on the movies Instagram or
any YouTube videos. I think that both Top Boy and Blue Story both did this to build as much hype as possible for the film, interviews where happening all through when the trailer was
released and, when certain premiers have came on cinemas and the interviewers and journalists had seen it, giving reviews building a good reputation for the film, this would have given
hype and tension to the film, for how good it’s going to be.
But unlike Top Boy, Blue Story has had to be removed from lots of VUE cinemas around the country due to youth violence and attacks surrounding the film. There had been 25 incidents at
16 cinemas in 24 hours of the release of the Urban drama film. In Birmingham, a brawl broke out at one of the showings of the film a quote reads (via Birmingham Live) "Half the people
arrested aren’t even of an age to watch it. Sort your security out it’s f*** all to do with the film.” There was 6 teenagers arrested in the incident, one was a 13 year old girl.
Writer and director Andrew Onwubolu, known as Rapman, described the incident as "truly unfortunate" and said he hoped it was not an "indictment" of the film. (Via Birmingham Live).
On his Instagram he sent love to everyone involved in the incident and for anyone hurt during the accident, he later said in an interview “the film is about love, not violence.”.
It was a successful campaign in a way because it opened it lots of cinemas and these incidents show many people were at the cinema for a screening of the film, but youth violence is a big
reason for the film being cancelled in many cinemas across the country. People are now threatening to boycott the VUE cinemas for not showing the film Blue Story, with a popular trend
seeming to be #NoBlueNoVue. This is a big statement to the cinema company who have boycotted the film, and people are now seeking revenge by boycotting them and ruining their
status and reputation.
