Developing soft skills
We present and analyse a work experience, now in its fifth year, to help students in developing soft skills, through execution and reporting, during a period of six semesters, of extra-curricular activities that are validated and evaluated by the faculty and, in a certain way, integrated in the curriculum throughout in the form of a ‘Personal Portfolio’. The global objective of the Personal Portfolio is to develop the student’s soft skills through the practice of extra-curricular activities and the reflection on that practice. In this paper we clarify the initial design of the learning environment, the objectives and regulation of Personal Portfolio, the information system that supports the activities and the evolution of students’ numbers and of the faculty. We comment on the major activities that have been developed, the main results obtained, the differences between the experiences in two campuses and the evolution of the Portfolio concept resulting from the adoption of the Bologna Agreement.

Diana teaches at the Porto Accounting & Business School (ISCAP), Polytechnic of Porto (P.PORTO) and she is a researcher at the Centre for Organizational and Social Studies (CEOS.PP), Portugal.
Abstract
Self-efficacy has been able to explain and predict human behaviour and change in several life domains. Grounded in Social Cognitive Theory, the Self-Efficacy Coaching Model (SEC) integrates the coaching literature that applies the concept of self-efficacy and provides an integrated model that contributes to explain and predict several coaching outcomes. The SEC model is focused on the self-efficacy beliefs of the coaches about their coaching skills, its causes and consequences. The latter includes the coachee’s perspective both in terms of benefits and evaluation of the coach’s skills. This paper presents the Self-Efficacy Coaching Model as well as its evaluation instruments, highlighting the applications of the SEC Model to practice and research.

Na atualidade a transição do sistema educativo para o mundo do trabalho é um processo longo e muito desafiante para os jovens. Se a ambiguidade e a imprevisibilidade que caracterizam a sociedade do conhecimento são fatores que, por si só, vieram complexificar esta transição, também é verdade que este fenómeno é influenciado por uma multiplicidade de fatores não só associados ao contexto, mas também ao indivíduo e à forma como ambos interagem e se influenciam mutuamente.
O conceito de autoeficácia, da autoria de Albert Bandura (1977;1997), diz respeito às crenças pessoais sobre a capacidade para desempenhar determinadas ações com sucesso, isto é, refere-se ao quanto o indivíduo se sente confiante face ao desempenho competente numa determinada tarefa e/ou área do funcionamento humano.
Se por um lado as crenças de autoeficácia influenciam as escolhas que fazemos, o quanto estamos dispostos a persistir perante obstáculos, a qualidade do nosso desempenho e até o nosso bem-estar, estas crenças têm também determinadas origens (ou fontes) que são claramente explicitadas na Teoria Social Cognitiva.
Deste modo, partindo do conhecimento das fontes de autoeficácia, é possível vislumbrar ações intencionais que poderão ser desenvolvidas no contexto educativo com o objetivo de fortalecer as crenças de autoeficácia dos estudantes.
Neste enquadramento, apresentaremos o Modelo Social Cognitivo da Transição para o Trabalho (Vieira, 2012) que contribui para organizar conceptualmente a complexidade da transição para o trabalho assim como para orientar tanto a intervenção como a investigação nesta área.
Com base em estudos realizados sobre o papel facilitador da autoeficácia na transição para o trabalho e sobre o seu potencial preditor do sucesso, esta apresentação tem como objetivo principal apresentar e refletir sobre o modo como determinadas práticas educativas/pedagógicas poderão contribuir para o fortalecimento das crenças de autoeficácia de estudantes.

Neste enquadramento, a Teoria Social Cognitiva contribui para organizar conceptualmente as questões de carreira bem como para orientar a investigação e a intervenção nesta área. O presente trabalho visa sistematizar o contributo da Teoria Social Cognitiva para a compreensão de várias fases da carreira, incluindo as escolhas educativas, o percurso e sucesso académico, a transição para o trabalho, a satisfação com a vida laboral bem como as situações de desemprego e/ou transições de carreira. Finalmente serão apresentadas pistas para a investigação e intervenção futuras na área da carreira, tendo como quadro de referência a Teoria Social Cognitiva.
