sanitaria profesional establecida seguМЃn el modelo BiomeМЃdico.

The Effect Of Enzyme Succinate On Different Types Of...
Determining and understanding the enzyme activity in different types of Oncorhynchus mykiss
muscle (heart, white and red) by comparing rate of reaction (V) of the succinate to the substrate
concentration [S] Emily Reside 0785150 Lab Section 104 January 29th 2015 Introduction
Understanding the activity of enzymes in different muscle types can aid greatly in obtaining more
information about other processes such as metabolism of the tissues (Anderson et al., 2012). There
are many different methods in order to achieve this information based in two different major
categories but the most convenient method is one called continuous assay. This process includes
the use of a spectrophotometer to continuously monitor the assay. This method allows for an easy
way to calculate the initial rate of reaction as one can establish time points easily. In the lab
performed the continuous method was used in order to determine the measurement of the activity
enzyme succinate dehydrogenase (SDH). SDH is most commonly found in mitochondria. It is
present in many different muscle tissues including the heart, red, and white tissue. In the following
lab the enzyme was tested and measured in these three muscle types in the Oncorhynchus mykiss in
order to determine which type contained the highest and the lowest activity. This enzyme is
involved in multiple processes such as involved in both the Krebs cycle and the electron transport
chain (ETC) (Smith, 2014). Its role in

The Energy Industry Is Controlled And Dominated By The...
Currently, the energy industry is controlled and dominated by the consumption of fossil fuels. As
energy companies are constantly burning these fossil fuels, this leaves the public questioning how
much supply we have left after this period of usage. Despite this, the search for alternative energy
sources to lower the cost of living for families around Australia has been going for years, where
some have found what works for them and their price range while others have not.
Australia is ranked 16th in the world for most energy consumed per capita totalling over 5590
kgoe/a (Kilograms of Oil Equivalent per annum) of crude oil. Over 73% of Australian families

Yes, a community is able to live on renewable energysources such as wind power and solar power.
A majority of local systems should install power grids purely based upon renewable energy,
depending on the source will depend on the area and the source that can generate the most on
demand. For example, small communities further in land will be able to depend on the use of
geothermal energy due to being in an isolated area where the mine can be installed and maintained
without disturbing day to day activities whereas in a city this would be impossible. The primary
question regarding the use of renewable/alternative energy sources is if they re able to generate
enough energy to cover the entire country? While the answer is currently unknown, we know
variables which in the end can bring us as a country to the conclusion. In a 2009 report by the
Australian Academy of Science, they state that Today s scientific and political consensus is that the
level of global emissions of greenhouse gases needs [to stabilise at] atmospheric concentrations
somewhere between 450 to 500 parts per million to avoid serious, if not catastrophic, effects on life
and property. Achieving this goal poses some formidable challenges . On top of this statement, there
are multiple uncertainties such as climate change, cost, and limitations. Currently, Australians alone

Carl Sandburg s Use of Allusion in Grass Essays
Carl Sandburg s Use of Allusion in Grass
Carl Sandburg s short poem Grass represents a metaphor for the disguise of history. The persona
tells how histories that have taken place are sooner or later disregarded. The persona tells that the
histories should not be disregarded, but be left the way it is as cited in the poem I am the grass
.Let me work. People should notice the events that took place and learn from their mistakes and be
better people. The places that are mentioned in the poem are allusions. The allusions are indirect
references that Carl Sandburg utilizes to exhibit the seriousness of the past events.
Every place that is mentioned in the poem is a well known bloody fight in wars that claimed many
lives. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At Austerlitz, even though Napoleon tasted his first victory he lost many men in the process.
Eventually his defeat at Waterloo obviously meant that he lost more men than in his victory. This
is where one of Carl s arguments of the poem comes into play. It is meaningless if one wins or
looses the reason being that the grass will get rid of all the signs of battles such as the dead people
and would have no effect whatsoever on people in the future.
The opening two lines of the following stanza is similar to the first line of the first stanza being that
the grass commands for more history left behind for it to wipe out at Gettysburg, Ypres, and
Verdun. All the grass wants to do is to accomplish its objective of wiping out physical signs of
history. However, these events are recent and so there may still be some visibility of the battles.
Some societies think that what happened hundreds of years ago happened yesterday. Carl then
uses the image of the passengers who pass the places mentioned in the poem now covered with
the grass. They ask the conductor What is this place? Where are we now? The passengers do not
have a clue as to how much blood had been dropped there in the stated places. They then carry on
with their voyage just as the grass keeps on growing.
While the grass covers all signs of history, it may also be pointed out that the allusions where
battles of war took place will be embraced by societies that see it as

Battle Of Guadalcanal Research Paper

numbers both have different things in common. The first number you see is how many Allies and
Japanese have either been killed, are missing, or were wounded during the Battle of Guadalcanal.
The second number you see is approximately the number of Americans, Chinese, Russians, and
Eastern Europeans, etc. that have been wounded, missing, or killed in the war in Iraq. There were
more deaths in a six month period of time than the amount of deaths in an eight year war in Iraq.
With that in mind, there are many things that are still unseen and unheard of such as: when and

Once spotted, CAF and the aircraft sunk all seven of the transporting carriers. Even though they

Essay about Anti-Obesity Effects of Polyunsaturated Fatty...
Anti obesity effects of polyunsaturated fatty acids
Introduction
In recent years, obesity has become a significant health problem in industrialized countries such as
the United States. Obesity is strongly associated with increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes
mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidemia, coronary heart disease, and congestive heart failure. The
World Health Organization has defined obesity as one of the top ten global health problems. High
fat diets containing large amounts of saturated fat and low amounts of unsaturated fat, may directly
increase the prevalence of obesity (Li, 2008). Research studies have suggested that polyunsaturated
fatty acids have an influence on body adiposity, and may exert anti obesity effects ... Show more

These fish oils are not produced in humans, but are not considered essential; although they take part
in important functions such as in cell membranes, gene interactions, and others (Williams, 2009).
For example, omega 3 fatty acid supplementation containing DHA has been observed to lessen the
inflammatory component of several chronic diseases (Browning 2003; Calder 2006). The
cardioprotective effects of supplementing DHA and EPA are well documented; they have been
shown to reduce total serum triacylglycerol concentrations, blood pressure, platelet aggregation, and
inflammation (Breslow 2006; Richter 2003).
Far fewer studies have focused on the anti obesity effects of DHA and EPA. However, these
studies have reported enhanced lipid oxidation, increased thermogenesis, prevention of free fatty
acids from entering adipocytes for lipogenesis, as well as other potential anti obesity effects (Li,
2008).
Underlying Mechanisms of Anti Obesity Effects of PUFA
PUFA decrease energy intake and/or increase energy expenditure
The body s ability to maintain a balance between energy intake and output is controlled by multiple
complex systems and imbalance of this system leads to metabolic symptoms such as obesity.
Obesity normally occurs when energy intake exceeds energy output (Hanbauer et al 2009). It has
been shown that overtime appetite is stimulated when there is a decrease in the circulating level of
fat metabolizing products. An individual s

Exoplanet Proxima B Meaning
On a daily basis, humans are forced to make countless decisions. They can be inconsequential
like should I wear red socks or blue socks? or the weighty decision: Should I go to the
convenience store that s five minutes away or drive for an hour to get to a large supermarket? .
How does this translate to space travel? Well it is a simple and very accurate analogy. As
dwellers of the Earth, we have a similar choice. Travel through space for an inexorable amount of
time just to get some milk, bread and eggs or make a left at the intersection and drive straight until
you pass Voyager 1. Then BAM! You have reached your destination. The exoplanet Proxima B,
from the Proxima Centauristarsystem is the convenience store of space. Proxima B is conveniently
situated and could conceivably support life. As well as its environmental aspects, humans would
benefit from the increase in their extraterrestrial knowledge by colonizing there. In the constellation
Centaurus, there is a star system named Alpha Centauri in which there are three stars. Both A and
B are approximately the same size as our sun... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sol produces large amounts of ultraviolet light as well as infrared. This explains why most plants
are green on Earth. Green is the only visible wavelength that is not absorbed in the plant s
biological processes. Proxima Centauri is emitting mostly infrared, which may create an evolution
in plants growing there. It would be interesting to see which plants would survive on infrared
wavelengths to live and reproduce. The research on Proxima B would help those back on Earth,
especially regions that have substantially less light. Techniques and practices could be introduced in
those areas to help with food production, a concern that will only increase as the population
continues to soar. Along with food production, there would be more area to inhabit. This would
ease the human population s conflict for

Becoming An Adult- Chronic Stressor
1.
School classes Daily hassle
Becoming an adult Chronic stressor
Deciding on a college Stressful event
Money Situations Chronic stressor
Family Problems Chronic stressor
2. There are many factors that could lead to the cause of a person s stress response. One includes
any life events or change to a person. Any transition that causes you to change and adjust your
life style can cause a great amount of stress, being that you cant go day to day like you may be
use to. Whether it may be a positive or negative, it tends to be stress producing. In my view i m
optimistic about this and try to see the bright side to things that may change my daily routine and
think of it as it happened for the best. Another factor that may cause a persons stress is somehow
being a part of a traumatic event. Events such as sexual assault, violence, or even unexpected loss
of a loved one can stress a person out so much that it changes the view of their life completely and
can cause changes in ways they carry themselves. It can cause symptoms such as nervousness and
symptoms of anxiety which escalate the amount of stress they experience. Daily hassles is
common for everyones stress. Minor things that seem to annoy or upset a person such as traffic
on the way to work or misplacing your shoes causes a hit of stress to go through your body.
Gender usually plays a factor in what causes a person to stress daily. Woman are more likely to
stress about problems that deal with family and friends,

Hayden s The Middle Passage
the e vivid and powerful Middle Passage is a creation of historical voices recalling the inhuman
cruelty of a people transported as chattel. The Middle Passage refers to the middle journey of the
triangular slave trade that began in the fifteenth century. The first leg of the journey entailed
leaving the home port and sailing to the African coast to pick up Africans who would be sold as
slaves in the New World. The middle passage is the portion of the journey in which Africans were
transported to the New World, particularly the Caribbean, Hispaniola, or the American South, the
barracoons of Florida. The poem conveys the uneasiness, fear, and anxiety of the crew. It also
describes the ways in which captured Africans committed suicide... Show more content on

The passage detailing the responsibility of culture and slave traders and their humanity. What
Hayden did with the Cinquez story in his poem, represents an outcome of significant proportions
because of the time when he wrote the poem. Due to Hayden s manner of oddly conflicting his
style with traditional epic characteristics, the poem fairly echoes with unexpected thematic
inferences throughout its length. Hayden apparently did not want to be known as a Negro or
Black Poet, but as an American poet. For him, the poem Middle Passage is not a black poem,
but an American poem. The poem is set in the classic framework of a journey, one that begins
when the African principals leave their villages. The departure is engineered as much by the
African kings who sell their captives to satisfy their greed for luxuries, as it is by the Spanish
greed for gold. The first lap of the journey is to the factories and places where the prisoners are
sorted out, processed, and restrained for their coming enslavement. From a vantage point that spans
time and place, the poet condemns the horrors of the Middle Passage, describing it as a voyage
through death. He condemns American greed, that of

A Summary Of Data Analysis
There are numerous ways to represent this data visually and numerically, the first graph I did
was the stem and leaf plot where you can see the frequency much clearer since the original data
numbers are shown as in compare like a histogram where the frequency is easy to see, the original
data points have been lost. For an example the grades, there are 13 values that were in the
seventies, but is hard to determine from the histogram what those values might have been. In the
stem and leaf plot shows the original values way easier, which is perfect to show to younger
students because the horizontal leaves in the stem and leaf plot is the same to the vertical bars in
the histogram, and the leaves have the heights that equal the numbers in the... Show more content on

In the box and whisker, the median is 78, almost 80, and that fifty percent of the students scored
between 67 and 86 points, and seeing the plot is skewed to the left means that there are more
values in the highs rather the lower numbers. The histogram and stem and leaf plot also shows how
students passed the test by seeing the median and mode on the graph.
The assigning of the scores I decided to have five letter grades which were, A, B, C, D, and F.
Letter grade A is 90 100, B is 80 89, C is 70 79, D is 60 69, and F is 59 0. The reason I chose this
grade assignment is because I wanted to know how many students have passed the exam beyond
average or below. The average is a 70 79 and having five categories can show which students
actually know the subject or need to work on it, whether over the average or under the average.
Describing the middle of the data is that the central tendency by using the mean, median, or mode.
The mean gives us the average, the median gives us which is the number in the middle of the set,
while mode show us the most frequently occurring value in a data set. The box and whisker and
histogram, it s better to use the median to describe the middle because since the mean is less than
the median, that s why it s skewed because the high scores influence the direction of the graph. In
this case, the median may be a better option to represent the typical grade on the test.
To describe the overall

and in the film have in common, and what their differences are because she thought that there must
be reasons why the film which is the adaptation of the novel is quite distinct from its original
version (the novel). The theory she used to analyze why both version are conveyed differently is
the film adaptation theory taken from narratology. There are three characters which Anna chose to

there are several dangerous tasks waiting for her ahead. On the other hand, the male character

but what may be less well documented is Hitler s design to eradicate all groups other than the
blue eyed, fair haired Aryans. So many of them were forgotten and just pushed in with the major
race of the Jews, who were said to be unworthy of life. The people were not ready, nor expecting to
be forced into such an egregious state of being. Adolf Hitlerexcruciatingly persecuted every race

which meant that they were not considered human and were treated horrendously. The Slavs,
Poles, Gypsies, German homosexuals, Blacks, and the Communists were killed. Even the
disabled and every one with incurable illnesses were Untermenschen as far as Hitler was
concerned. The major race, besides the Jews, that was to be eliminated completely was the
Romanian Gypsies (Friedman 7). No one of that race was allowed to live. From the ages zero to
one hundred, absolutely no one was to remain alive. In the beginning, the Gypsies were treated
poorly and their talent and success became a major threat to all the local people. It was then that
Hitler decided they were not to be around anymore. They were all considered like second class
citizens if not more poorly. The Nazi s were even told to experiment on them to try to prove that
the Gypsies were somehow of different blood and not like that of the Master Race. A perverse

Cyber Breach
Since 2005 a total 895,605,986 were breached and 4,745 DATA BREACHES have occurred.
According to the former national coordinator for security, infrastructure protection for the United
States, Richard Clarke, believes that companies can be put into two types those that have been
breached and know it and companies that have been and just don t know it yet. With so many
cyber breaches and personal data being released into the wrong hands has many companies
wanting to strike back on their own. While this idea may seem reasonable I believe that companies
should have a cyber strategy such as identifying assets, outline a plan of action, develop
partnerships, and train their employees.
Companies must first identify their asset and what it is they are wanting to protect. Each company
has a different set of standards they are wanting to protect. For example, retail operations, healthcare

The Most Memorable Writing Experience
Most Memorable Writing Experience: My Reflection on Writing I have been writing since I have
been in Middle School. I have realized that by college it was easier for me to write down my
thoughts in order for me to remember what I have said or done. Writing out my thoughts gives me a
sense of recollection, knowledge, and pacification that gets me through my day. I pictured writingto
be as simple as jotting down a few sentences, but as I got farther in school I realized that there is
more to it than just writing sentences. English has been my most difficult subject I have ever
endured, but I have somehow been managing to make excellent grades and achieving all
requirements. First in the essay, I will discuss my experiences in the English life that I ve taken so
far up until college. The second part will list my struggles in creating a thesis, a work cited, and
properly citing my sources used in the papers. My experience with English has changed
drastically from middle school to college. Being in middle school I have really had to do much of a
big paper, but as I progressed through college I ve realized there much more that has to be
added. I had always wondered why middle school was so easy but as years went on, I realized
that advancing to college there s a lot more requirements and importance to writing. In middle
school, I was young and just starting to really realize what an essay was and after high schoolI really
understood what an essay consists of. No matter how

Brain Tumor Research Paper
Brain tumor
Clinical feature
A brain tumor is an abnormal development of tissue in the brain or central spine, which is
accountable for appropriate brain functionality. Brain and spinal cord tumors are atypical growths
of tissue found inside the skull or the bony spinal column, which are the chief constituents of the
central nervous system (CNS). Benign tumors are noncancerous and malignant tumors are
cancerous. The central nervous system (CNS) is accommodated within rigid, bony quarters (i.e.,
the skull and spinal column), so any uncharacteristic growth, whether benign or malignant, can
place burden on sensitive tissues and damage function. Tumors that instigate in the brain or spinal
cord are called primary tumors.
Causes
Most primary tumors are triggered by out of control growth amid cells that surround and support
neurons. In a trifling number of individuals, primary tumors might arise from particular genetic
ailment (e.g., neurofibromatosis, tuberous sclerosis) or from exposure to radiation or cancer causing
compounds. The reason of most primary tumors remains unidentified. They are not transmissible

Gerry Mulligan Essay
Counterpoint in Gerry Mulligan s Compositions and Arrangements
In 1952 Gerald Joseph Gerry Mulligan (1927 1996) started playing at a jazz club in Los Angeles
called The Haig. During that time he met a lot of the best jazz musicians on the West Coast,
including Kenneth Norville Red Norvo , Erroll Garner, Chesney Chet Baker, Milton Shorty
Rogers, Foreststorn Chico Hamilton, Clifford Bud Shank, Keith Red Mitchell, Robert Whitlock,
and also some rising talent of the area. At The Haig, Mulligan created his famous pianoless quartet
with Chico Hamilton on drums, Robert Whitlock on bass, and Chet Baker on trumpet. Mulligan s
idea of having a rhythm section without a chordal instrument (i.e., piano, guitar, vibraphone) was
in part inspired by his desire of using more counterpoint. Having gained a lot of experience as an
arranger and composer with previous projects with Stan Kenton, and Miles Davis, Mulligan wanted
to create a counterpoint oriented jazz group. His quartet became the first polyphonic jazz group

Causes of American Poverty and Possible Solutions Essay
Poverty is not a simple issue. You cannot ask a question about poverty and get one universal
response. There are many conflicting ideas about what poverty is, and more importantly, where it
comes from. The make up of American society shows that so much in life can depend on one s
family. Having opportune circumstances can land people jobs, but having the opposite can also
perpetuate the depression and reality of povertyfor others. When people have reasons not to seize
their days, they might sink deeper and deeper into the belief that they cannot truly escape poverty.
People need to have the proper assistance to breakaway from poverty and lead successful lives.

This money would be so much better spent on education or self help programs. Services that have
the future of the poor in mind are where government benefits need to be attached. If poor children
can be the first in their family to obtain a legitimate education, they can help turn their family

other children in similar situations. Again, this requires a proper allocation of support.
Conversely, according to Schiller (2008), the Flawed Character theory, Sees individuals as in full

mean you are permanently stuck there, but it can hinder your development. Children are not
seemingly in full control of their status when they are told by their parents to live off the
government. This ideal could make children more than likely to heed this ill advised lesson.
Children being brought up on the belief that less effort is better would be a true testament to the
ineptitude of this system. On the other hand, with money being spent on young people for
education, the control of their lives increases much more. The belief that being poor will deny any
opportunities can be greatly

Soccer Informative Speech Essay
Have you ever heard the saying, have you ever wanted something so much it hurt ? Well, when I
say it. I m talking about literally hurting. Your legs are so sore, it feels like you can t take another
stride, your so out of breath from chasing the ball around, and your so exhausted from last nights
practice, your bed seems to be the most attractive thing to you right now. Three hour practices of
straight running, push ups, and sit ups has its pros and cons. Even at times when you feel like you
need a break, pushing yourself through it is what makes you a better player. I choose to inform you
on soccer because I ve played my whole life, from 5 years old until my senior year in high school,

Understanding that and accepting it is a person with good sportsmanship. Where as if they were
upset at their teammates for not doing their part and getting overly upset at the other team for
playing good soccer is not good sportsmanship. At the end of the game, whether you have lost or
have won you always shake hands with the other team. It is always necessary to let the other
team know that it was a good well played game whatever the outcome was. A person with good
sportsmanship would clearly accept that fact. People that do have good sportsmanship are more
easy to be around. It s almost like they re carefree and just play soccer for the fun of the game and
not just for the win. Don t get me wrong, it is always better to win, but everyone loses at least
once in his or her lives. Lastly, I think that dedication is another key component to playing yet
again, not just soccer, but any sport. Having a teammate that isn t dedicated is like having an
employee not show up to work every other day. You need that person to be there to get the job
done. If you miss days of practice or even games, those are days that everyone is running an hour
more than you and are gaining more endurance. It almost will seem like you can see the players
that aren t as dedicated on the field because they don t care as much. An article called what

Garrett Hardin Analysis
What is the tragedy of the commons? It is said to be in the 1968 publication in Journal Science
by ecologist and philosopher Garrett Hardin a depletion of the earth s resources, including, but not
limited to overpopulation. Should why should you care? Hardin explains in his article that people
tend to see the world as place of infinite resources, and space when in fact he argues, it is not.
Throughout the article there is undertone of urgency; we have to! it blares, It s too late another

the article, Hardin uses practical reasoning; he quotes scientists and references studies yet readers

Southside Strangler Case Study
The Southside Strangler: The Advent of DNA Exploration and Testing Forever Changed the
Criminal Justice System
Timothy Wilson Spencer, more commonly known as the Southside Strangler, became a household
name in Virginia due to his ravenous rape and murder spree. In 1987, Spencer killed his first
victim, soon followed by three others. Joe Horgas, the main detective on the case, used the
evidence discovered in his extensive DNA research and investigation to send Spencer to trial. On
July 16, 1988, this evidence made it s mark on history by exponentially advancing DNA usage. It
did so by starting a major revelation in accurate identification methods and increasing the need for
DNA technology. The need for DNA research broadened amongst scientists... Show more content

Without the Timothy Wilson Spencer investigation and similar trials in the United States and the
United Kingdom, the way our current criminal justice system functions would not be possible.
Before DNA testing, the only way to identify someone was using blood and identifying the blood
type. Though it does narrow down possible suspects, plenty of people share the same blood type.
With the research of Sir Alec Jeffreys and his discovery that there are billions of personalized
DNA sequences, there is no possibility that there would be misidentification. In addition to this,
Jeffrey s research also taught DNA researchers worldwide that DNA can exonerate people as well
as convict them. With Detective Horgas and the Behavioral Science Unit also helping improve
techniques that help cases using DNA such as linkage blindness and analyzing a serial killer s
signature or common traits amongst their murders, the modern day DNA investigative process
would be nowhere similar to what it is today. Similarly, without improvements in the DNA process
in a trial, the questionability of the company Lifecode in Spencer s trial could arise in current trials.
In all, without Timothy Wilson Spencer s investigation, trial, and conviction, knowledge of DNA
exploration would not be the same. Research

Chromatography Of Food Dyes Lab Report
Chromatography of Food Dye Chem 180 DL3 Abstract: The goal of this experiment was to use
different dyes to determine the Rf value. Chromatography is done to determine the presence of a
mixture in a substance. In this experiment different dyes were used such as McCormick food
coloring, M amp;M s, Kool Aid, and the dyes that came with the lab kit. Experiment and
Observation: In this experiment a 50mL beaker was filled with luke warm water and a pinch of
salt water was dissolved in it and set aside. A line was drawn with pencil 1 cm from the bottom
of the paper and then the line was separated with cross lines 1.5cm apart on two sheets of
chromatography paper. The sections on the first sheet of paper were labeled B1, B2, R3,... Show

Once the cylinder was removed from the petri dish the top of each solvent line was marked with

Character Analysis Of Morris Lurie s Running Nicely
Running nicely is a short story written by Morris Lurie, about two orphan brothers: the protagonist,
Moses, a twenty two years old young man and the antagonist, Ben, his younger brother. The story is
set during the night at ten PM, in the streets in suburban Melbourne. When the two brothers are
running, Moses realizes he has difficulty accepting that Ben is getting older, and that his younger
brother is now running faster than him. The author suggests that familyrelationships after a loss
may result in being abnormal and can have consequences on one s development and behavior. The
author effectively conveys this theme through his use of characterization, narrative point of view
and irony.
To begin, the characterization of Moses in relation with his brother Ben demonstrates how the
protagonist is struggling to be a perfect father substitute, after both parents passing away. Moses
makes Ben grow too fast by doing adult type activities, like showing him jazz music, making him
watch old movies and making him read books about war. By getting his brother learn about other
things instead of watching the TV like their neighbors, he feels proud about how [...] he has weaned
his brother, a former three hours a nigh man, off that awful habit. (2). After the death of their
parents, Moses must take the responsibility of a father, but ends up controlling Ben too much by
trying to educate him as an adult, while he is only twelve years old. By striving for perfection,
Moses

Ownership In The Great Gatsby
Defining the idea of ownership is the act, state, or right of possessing something. Drawing from
different philosophers who have studied the human condition, they look at the principle of
ownership in relation to one s sense of self. Aristotle claims that tangible ownership is fundamental
to developing a person s character. However, in Jean Paul Sartre s view, he claims that the
existence precedes the essence . Sartre is saying how there is an equal balance between tangible and
intangible items, but the existence is more important than nature since man can choose what they
define himself to be. I believe that the idea of ownershiprelates to both intangible and tangible
objects to find a sense of self. It is possible for an individual... Show more content on

In the Great Gatsby, we are able to see how shallow and materialistic the upper class can be. They
find a sense of self through the tangible items that they possess. Tom Buchanan is an example of
where he defines himself through his wealth to express how he is better than everyone. He
deliberately tries to show off all of his expensive belongings, so that he can make a statement on
his standard of living. However, Tom sacrifices his own moral character by finding a sense of
self through his fortune. He finds no guilt when he is expressing infidelity towards his wife
Daisy, but when the idea of Daisy having an affair with Gatsby transpires he becomes outraged
and demands a confrontation. Although Tom is a reckless narcissist, not all individuals that
possess a fortune are shallow. Looking at contemporary society, Bill Gates is a prominent figure
that has an immense wealth but does not define himself through it. He donates to countless
charities that develop his moral character and is viewed by his actions and not by his wealth. He
finds pride through his charitable actions and is an important example of proving how different
views of ownership differ from each individual to find a sense of

Effective And Rational Priority Setting Of Health...
Baltussen et al. (2006, 2010) and Peacock et al. (2009) suggested that MCDA can make a difference
in making better and more transparent decision in the setting priorities in health. Baltussen et al.
(2006) argued that priority setting in health intervention was often ad hoc and decisions were not
optimally made. Instead they suggested implementing MCDA into health intervention decision
making since there are many criterias to be considered in the priority setting of health intervention.
They illustrated the comparison between ad hoc priority setting and rational priority setting in the
following figure. Peacock et al. (2009) stated that MCDA is important because the degree of
conflict between criteria, or conflict between different stakeholders regarding the importance of
different criteria, is such that intuitive decision making is unsatisfactory (p. 127). However, they
suggested using MCDA in health care planning for policy makers, they stated that they did not
suggest abandoning the current tools that policy makers used to make decision. Therefore, in this
review, I have also included an example from priority setting in health interventions without MCDA
as well. Priority setting in health interventions without an application of MCDA GonzГЎlez Pier et

Guadalajara, Mexico and San Francisco, and how they have adapted elements from the
marginalized saints such as Santisima Muerte, St. Jude, and the Virgin of Guadalupe from the
Catholic faith for protection from the homophobia, discrimination, and danger they faced in their
daily lives.
2.The author used interviews from 29 transgendered sex workers from Guadalajara over two years
in both Mexico and San Francisco, as well as personal observation as methods of collecting data.
3.The concept of sexual migration is migration fully or partially fueled by the sexuality of those
migrating. Some may desire to continue a current relationship with a foreign national, or it may be
just to exploring new sexual desires, such as gender transformation. Others may be migrating to

they were hoping for an environment that gives them more equality in society.

Teaching of critical thinking skill in education has a controversial issue whether it should be taught
as a separate subject or part of curriculum (Adams and Hamm 38). In this context, Norris (1 2)
stated that critical thinking should be taught as a separate subject while Ruggiero ( 413) and

critical thinking can be taught with different subjects rather than an autonomous skill. Thus, critical

Essay On Power In Heart Of Darkness
The Fear of Being Powerless The bitterest contradiction and the deadliest conflicts of the world
are carried on in every individual breast capable of feeling and passion (Raskin 116). It is possible
that those with the best intentions can create some of the deadliest atrocities as passion can take
control over one s emotions. This emotional instability can be seen in Heart of Darknessas Joseph
Conradillustrates how one s passion of saving others slowly turns into madness that causes
hundreds of fatalities. We wonder, what could cause a man, such as Kurtz, in Heart of Darkness, to

As a result of this, Kurtz s biggest fear was being powerless to the natives, leading him to act in
inhumane ways as he did not want to become the inferior. This fear can be seen at the end when
Kurtz exclaims to exterminate all brutes since the natives were unable to change to what he
wanted, instead he was the one who became inferior. (Conrad 2009). The idea of the natives not
viewing him powerful enough to follow his orders enraged him so much he wanted them all
dead even while he was dying. This anger is expressed through why Conrad complex language
and syntax for example, exterminate rather just kill as it illustrates the hatred and frustration he
has towards the natives since he has now been a victim of his biggest fear. Conrad explains how
we naturally fear being powerless considering society has taught us that being powerless and
vulnerable will not keep us alive. Additionally, no matter what, we must stay true to ourselves and
values. This is exactly what Kurtz did, he wanted to maintain his unchecked power until he died,
but rather this being his individual decision, and it was a decision instilled in him that relates back
to Conrad s proposition that our family creates a sense power within us while we are young. We
are all given a rank of superiority through

purposes: retaining solution sterility and stabilization of the insulin molecule in the hexameric
form to avoid aggregation(35). These compounds are may cause problems since they are proved to
be toxic and irritant, and are being investigated for their role as sensitizers and carcinogens (36).
Generally the human insulin monomers may assemble into insulin dimer and insulin hexamer
which is more stable than that of dimeric form. Regarding the main function of insulin which is
regulating the uptake of glucose, both insulin dimer and hexamer are inactive in biological
environment. However they are much more stable from conformational viewpoint ... Show more

When phenolic preservatives were depleted insulin glulisine dissociated or broke down from a
structure with higher molecular weight (hexamer) structures into a number of intermediate
molecular weight one, usually between monomer and hexamer, whereas insulin aspart and insulin
lispro separated into monomers and dimmers. The ultimate disintegration of Insulin lispro and
aspart was due to the large extent of their dissociation when they were depleted of their excipients
while insulin glulisine was dissociated to intermediate molecular weight molecules in the absence
of the phenol and m cresol (39).
In general they concluded that insulin degradation was inversely related to the concentration of
phenol and m cresol as phenolic preservatives.
Tissue response and inflammation (cytotoxic effect of insulin with and without excipients)

principles that all great societies value. This shift in predilection towards feelings has caused
society to begin making decisions based on feelings as opposed to logic.
Moral relativism is the philosophy where things such as ethics, morals and positions of right and
wrong are subject to one s own beliefs; this philosophy eliminates all objective truths. Slowly but
surely, society is turning into a moral relativistic society where everyone is free to create their
own truth based on how they feel. For example, an objective truth would be The killing of
innocent life is wrong, but a moral relativist could just as easily say, I feel that killing ... Show more

In order to combat this ever pervasive problem, it must be attacked at the roots. This could be
achieved through the teaching of good philosophy. This solution is not as easy as it seems though.
Creating an environment that fosters intellectual thought and philosophical discussion within the
school system will undoubtedly help students question ideas that are currently left unquestioned.
Making philosophy class mandatory in high schools will nurture thoughtful minds that can entertain
an idea without accepting it. Possessing the ability to do this will benefit students far greater than a
guitar class or most other electives for that matter. A philosophy class will teach students
rudimentary principles taught by some of the greatest thinkers of all time Aristotle, Socrates, and
Plato. These basic principles will uproot and contradict many things society values today, most of
which will be moral relativism.
The implementation of philosophy into high schools is a macro solution that is far above
anything I can do in my life at the moment. Despite this fact, I can still have an effect on a micro
level. By living out the good philosophy that should be taught in schools, I allow my peers and
community to see the effect that this philosophy has. Having people lead by example and live out
their philosophy is one of the easiest ways to change those around

President Woodrow Wilson s View Of Neutrality
America had no intention of entering WWI as President Woodrow Wilson had declared their
policy of neutrality in 1914 after the continent of Europe had erupted in conflict. President
Wilson aimed to deal with all participants in the war in a fair way that did not show signs of
allegiance to either side as he tried to help find a way towards peaceful resolution. Happenings in
Europe soon changed Wilson s view of neutrality. Many American lives had been lost at sea after
the sinking of the Lusitania and other ships due to Germany s unrestricted submarine attacks.
Germany refused to alter their methods which forced Wilson to ask Congress for a declaration of
war in 1917. At this time things were not going well for the Allied troops. Italy had suffered a
major defeat after the Battle of Caporetto when the Austrians captured 275,000 soldiers. This had
forced French and British troops forces to change their troops from the Western front to Italy in
order to help them. At the same time the French Army was experiencing mutiny and many feared
that she would collapse from within. In Russia there was a revolution as the Bolsheviks came to
power ousting and executing the Romanov royal family. The country s internal struggle pulled
them out of the war in 1917. The German submarine attacks on Britain were so powerful that many
people predicted Britain s collapse within months. America entered the war at a slow pace. First
after Wilson had sent General John Pershing to lead the American

Healthcare Econometrics
The goal of econometrics is to aid decision making in a business setting. By analyzing seemingly
unrelated sets of information, economists hope to see correlations that may help make informed
choices. (Ouliaris, 2012) Econometrics has its limitations if data is incomplete or if the sampling
period is insufficiently short the resulting information may not give the full picture as intended by
the economists. (Ramcharan, 2012)This paper will discuss the use of econometrics in the
healthcare setting. Use of statistics and analysis may have a role in decision making in future
hospitalspending. One example of how an econometrics study may help is in the healthcare
setting: hospitals and physician providers rely on professional nursing and other allied health staff
to care for the patient consumers of in the healthcare field. It can be difficult to predict staffing
needs in the short term; how many nurses are required to safely care for patients within the budget
in the next week, month or even year? Many factors must be considered such as patient acuity,
meaning how sick are the patients, what is the skill level of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Unfortunately the analysis may be somewhat ambiguous, or may not tell the whole story. It will be
extremely important to use other data sources to help in the decision making process. In the case of
the hypothetical health care system, a look at the slowing trend of healthcare spending and the
increasing cost of health insurance are very important considerations when deciding to expand
services or build new facilities. (Farley, 2014) Other factors to consider would be: is the political
climate of the area accepting of new hospital growth? Is the population of a given area in need of
new services? Econometrics should be just one tool to be used in such important decision

Writing Is Easy Steve Martin Summary
I consider the essay, Writing Is Easy! by Steve Martin exceptionally funny because he makes
several different jokes that are entertaining and humorous. One joke that he makes is that he
enjoys typing nonsense as much as he enjoys actually writing: I could be typing kjfiu joewmv jiw
and would enjoy is just as much as typing words that actually make sense, (5). I find this funny
because it is true that some people just enjoy the feeling of their fingers on a keyboard. Another
joke he makes is that when he is frustrated with writinghe can just go get coffee, relax, and figure it
out later. He claims painters don t have that luxury. If they go to a coffee shop, their paint dries into
a hard mass, (5). A different joke that Martin makes

The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad !
Television, an escape to a more appealing reality than what we ourselves deal with daily. It is far
easier to live out one s dreams through a television screen than to create something for ourselves,
those in the television business know this well. From finding love in some cheesy romantic comedy
to indulging in shows for a good laugh, we are brainwashed into believing the messages conveyed
to fit the norm . Shows that are directly connected to American culture would be adult animated
comedies. Adult cartoons, such as: The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad!, King of the Hill,
and South Park, are being consumed by younger audiences; these shows contain stereotypes of sex,

Some shows, like South Park and The Simpsons, make us think logically about a situation we
might otherwise overlook, even if it is outlandish in context. Numerous sociological studies done
on people after watching The Simpsons had a positive effect. South Park watchers mentioned
wanting to get involved with controversial topics. Stereotypes depicted by these shows have a
negative impact; but occasionally, can help us to understand what is right and wrong. Sex,
ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender orientation, age, religion, etc. are all stereotypes projected in
these shows at one time or another. The Simpsons often makes the audience learn from the
character s mistakes with these stereotypes. The messages presented by these shows have an
unrealistic expectation for reality. Almost all the shows project a middle class, heterosexual
couple with their children, and characters of Caucasian race, apart from the Simpsons family who
are yellow. Most of the violent/inappropriate actions in the shows will go without consequences.
On many occasions, The Simpsons has exhibited child abuse through the actions of Homer
Simpson to his son, Bart (Pesce). Men are projected to be the main bread winner, while the wives
are meant to care for the

Being in speech and debate you have to have a quick response to whatever your opponent says,
this has proven helpful to the development of my problem solving abilities. Being a quick thinker
is essential to speech and debate as well. This is quite an easy one to apply to the server as there
are many many problems that moderator s have to deal with. My second strength would have to be
optimism. As a moderator you want to keep up the happy, peaceful community that inhabits this
server, and if you were a pessimist as a moderator, instead of making people happy, you would make
them upset. Being an optimist, it is very easy to see the good in things and be a happy person
whilst on the server whereas it is very easy to get yourself down as a pessimist.
My third and final strength would be my friendliness. One of the aspects of being friendly is
being nice and both of those are major essentials to the server. If you aren t nice, a drama will ensue
and drama is bad for everyone and it would be a great idea not to get yourself tangled within the
core of it. Players want to be comfortable talking to a mod, and without you being friendly it will be
harder for players to reach out to you for help.

Pop Culture In Jane Austen s Clueless
The culture of popular girls, a fascinating concept to those willing to escape into an all too real
world. This, which has been somewhat of a cult classic starting as far back as the 1800s, with
Jane Austen s Emma. Emma Churchill was a twenty one year old with the most trivial problems,
which, to her, seemed the world. Those of not getting a boy, or getting someone else s boy were
the most troubling to Ms. Churchill, as she is known to her help. Typical of any story such as this,
she had an accomplice in her daily shenanigans, Harriet Smith. Her slightly naive best friend was
there to help her through all of her earth shatteringly important problems. Emmanever did have a
mother figure, so conclusively that is why she never learned that there are bigger things in life
than boys and primping. Despite this, she was never interested in the idea of marrying for
herself, but setting her friends up with their perfect match. However, she does end up finding
love in the end, even if it is with a family member, extended family of course. This twisted story
of love and the troubles of a rich girl is more commonly known in pop culture by the name of
Clueless . Clueless tells the story of a girl named Cher, navigating high school with her best friend

Virtuoso Teams, Creativity and Trust
Creativity and trust are important and beneficial factors for increasing workplace performance. In
two case studies, Sid Caesar and Miles Davis virtuoso teams have common themes, such as
generating creativity, focusing on trust, and intense time pressures. Virtuoso teams represent a
dominate approach to getting work done in a business environment. Creativity enables virtuoso
teams to solve problems and leverage opportunities through the integration of divergent thoughts
and perspectives.

Davis was never content with the status quo; he demanded change and made it happen. To Davis
team success meant being a tough leader. If you are a weak leader you will have a weak group.
Self awareness for Davis somehow connected him to being an effective leader. Self awareness is
related to the notion of self evaluation. If you know yourself, then self evaluation is likely to be
more accurate (Tekleab, Sims, Yun, Tesluk, Cox, 2008). The effects of leader self awareness on
follower self leadership are more salient or direct in regard to empowering. Davis empowered his
teams by challenging their talent to a higher level of performance.
Four Cs Model and the DeepDive Concept
The Four Cs are determinants of high performing teams: context, composition, competencies, and
change management skills (Dyer, Dyer, Dyer, 2006). Visioning and directing was necessary
contexts for Caesar and Davis to build virtuoso teams. Both leaders with a vision and the ability to
direct virtuoso teams produced sustainable results that lasted longer than usual in the entertainment
and music business. In an effective team, each member must understand the context of the team s
work to the greatest degree possible. That includes understanding the relevance of his or her job
and how it impacts the effectiveness of others and the overall team effort. It was evident in Caesar
and Miles virtuoso teams that everyone including leadership

The Truman Report And The American Community College
The Truman Report and the American Community College
Introduction
The President s Commission on Higher Education was formed with the basis of exploring the
purpose and the need for Higher Education and the role it played in society. During 1947 there were
many issues affecting not just Higher Education but the nation as a whole. Foreign policy was in
disarray, the threat of a Cold War with the Soviet Union and issues such as the post effects of
World War II and Civil Rights had a huge impact on the home front. According to Wolfe (1994),
there was a growing need of Americans that wanted to be educated; however the country was not
equipped with the tools that were necessary to provide these sources. The report highlighted several
key areas that would be the catalyst for Community Colleges, Societal Issues, the Role of
Community Colleges, and the future of American.
Response to Higher Education Societal Issues
The increase in enrollment in high schools resulted in more individuals making the decision to
further their education. As a result of the increase in attendance, the commission found that the
amount of students attending school did not match with the current needs. This could be attributed
to factors such economic backgrounds, individual student finances, and the amount of money that
was invested in higher education, as a result, the commission revealed that there was a lack of
funding that was invested towards education.
In addition to the lack of funding and the

The Honor of Sir Galahad
The knights of King Arthur s time were not only brave, but they were righteous, gallant, and
faithful. In King Arthur s time, chivalry was everything. Knights were expected to do battle, be
religious, and be respectful to women. One such knight was Sir Galahad. He was the son of Lancelot
and Elaine of Corbenic and became a knight at King Arthur s Round Table. The story of Sir
Galahad was shared in The Quest of the Holy Grail from the Middle Ages. It told how Galahad
first came to King Arthur s Round Table, and how despite being brought up by nuns, he was known
as a courteous and chivalrous knight. During the medieval era, chivalry was a very important part
of society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No one else had been able to do that. It was said that only the world s best knight could pull out
the sword. So he pleased the king. King Arthur proclaimed him to be the greatest knight and
invited Galahad to become a Knight of the Round Table. Sir Galahad was shown to have moral
purity by being a trustful, noble leader and putting other people over himself. Because of
Galahad s moral purity and because he was able to pull the sword from the stone so easily, the
King asked him to find the Holy Grail. The King said, If he be indeed the one for whom we have
waited to bring to a close the adventures of the Holy Grail, no man has ever met with greater joy
than he shall have of us. (Matarasso) The actions of Galahad and what was said about him show
that he pleased the court and the King. He had possessed many chivalric attributes including
courtliness and moral purity.
These attributes of courtliness and moral purity were very important in the Medieval society.
Chivalry is the representative code for the conduct of the knights on the battlefield, involvement in
religion, as well as a concept of warfare (History Professor Nick Smith), Galahad represented
chivalry for the reason that he was one of King Arthur s favorite knights and had expectations for
many great descendants. In the Arthurian stories, Galahad was well known

• 3. The Effect Of Enzyme Succinate On Different Types Of... Determining and understanding the enzyme activity in different types of Oncorhynchus mykiss muscle (heart, white and red) by comparing rate of reaction (V) of the succinate to the substrate concentration [S] Emily Reside 0785150 Lab Section 104 January 29th 2015 Introduction Understanding the activity of enzymes in different muscle types can aid greatly in obtaining more information about other processes such as metabolism of the tissues (Anderson et al., 2012). There are many different methods in order to achieve this information based in two different major categories but the most convenient method is one called continuous assay. This process includes the use of a spectrophotometer to continuously monitor the assay. This method allows for an easy way to calculate the initial rate of reaction as one can establish time points easily. In the lab performed the continuous method was used in order to determine the measurement of the activity enzyme succinate dehydrogenase (SDH). SDH is most commonly found in mitochondria. It is present in many different muscle tissues including the heart, red, and white tissue. In the following lab the enzyme was tested and measured in these three muscle types in the Oncorhynchus mykiss in order to determine which type contained the highest and the lowest activity. This enzyme is involved in multiple processes such as involved in both the Krebs cycle and the electron transport chain (ETC) (Smith, 2014). Its role in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Energy Industry Is Controlled And Dominated By The... Currently, the energy industry is controlled and dominated by the consumption of fossil fuels. As energy companies are constantly burning these fossil fuels, this leaves the public questioning how much supply we have left after this period of usage. Despite this, the search for alternative energy sources to lower the cost of living for families around Australia has been going for years, where some have found what works for them and their price range while others have not. Australia is ranked 16th in the world for most energy consumed per capita totalling over 5590 kgoe/a (Kilograms of Oil Equivalent per annum) of crude oil. Over 73% of Australian families uses electricity that is derived from coal, 13% use electricity produced from natural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yes, a community is able to live on renewable energysources such as wind power and solar power. A majority of local systems should install power grids purely based upon renewable energy, depending on the source will depend on the area and the source that can generate the most on demand. For example, small communities further in land will be able to depend on the use of geothermal energy due to being in an isolated area where the mine can be installed and maintained without disturbing day to day activities whereas in a city this would be impossible. The primary question regarding the use of renewable/alternative energy sources is if they re able to generate enough energy to cover the entire country? While the answer is currently unknown, we know variables which in the end can bring us as a country to the conclusion. In a 2009 report by the Australian Academy of Science, they state that Today s scientific and political consensus is that the level of global emissions of greenhouse gases needs [to stabilise at] atmospheric concentrations somewhere between 450 to 500 parts per million to avoid serious, if not catastrophic, effects on life and property. Achieving this goal poses some formidable challenges . On top of this statement, there are multiple uncertainties such as climate change, cost, and limitations. Currently, Australians alone produce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Carl Sandburg s Use of Allusion in Grass Essays Carl Sandburg s Use of Allusion in Grass Carl Sandburg s short poem Grass represents a metaphor for the disguise of history. The persona tells how histories that have taken place are sooner or later disregarded. The persona tells that the histories should not be disregarded, but be left the way it is as cited in the poem I am the grass .Let me work. People should notice the events that took place and learn from their mistakes and be better people. The places that are mentioned in the poem are allusions. The allusions are indirect references that Carl Sandburg utilizes to exhibit the seriousness of the past events. Every place that is mentioned in the poem is a well known bloody fight in wars that claimed many lives. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At Austerlitz, even though Napoleon tasted his first victory he lost many men in the process. Eventually his defeat at Waterloo obviously meant that he lost more men than in his victory. This is where one of Carl s arguments of the poem comes into play. It is meaningless if one wins or looses the reason being that the grass will get rid of all the signs of battles such as the dead people and would have no effect whatsoever on people in the future. The opening two lines of the following stanza is similar to the first line of the first stanza being that the grass commands for more history left behind for it to wipe out at Gettysburg, Ypres, and Verdun. All the grass wants to do is to accomplish its objective of wiping out physical signs of history. However, these events are recent and so there may still be some visibility of the battles. Some societies think that what happened hundreds of years ago happened yesterday. Carl then uses the image of the passengers who pass the places mentioned in the poem now covered with the grass. They ask the conductor What is this place? Where are we now? The passengers do not have a clue as to how much blood had been dropped there in the stated places. They then carry on with their voyage just as the grass keeps on growing. While the grass covers all signs of history, it may also be pointed out that the allusions where battles of war took place will be embraced by societies that see it as ... The second number you see is approximately the number of Americans, Chinese, Russians, and Eastern Europeans, etc. that have been wounded, missing, or killed in the war in Iraq. There were more deaths in a six month period of time than the amount of deaths in an eight year war in Iraq. • 7. Essay about Anti-Obesity Effects of Polyunsaturated Fatty... Anti obesity effects of polyunsaturated fatty acids Introduction In recent years, obesity has become a significant health problem in industrialized countries such as the United States. Obesity is strongly associated with increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidemia, coronary heart disease, and congestive heart failure. The World Health Organization has defined obesity as one of the top ten global health problems. High fat diets containing large amounts of saturated fat and low amounts of unsaturated fat, may directly increase the prevalence of obesity (Li, 2008). These fish oils are not produced in humans, but are not considered essential; although they take part in important functions such as in cell membranes, gene interactions, and others (Williams, 2009). For example, omega 3 fatty acid supplementation containing DHA has been observed to lessen the inflammatory component of several chronic diseases (Browning 2003; Calder 2006). The cardioprotective effects of supplementing DHA and EPA are well documented; they have been shown to reduce total serum triacylglycerol concentrations, blood pressure, platelet aggregation, and inflammation (Breslow 2006; Richter 2003). Far fewer studies have focused on the anti obesity effects of DHA and EPA. However, these studies have reported enhanced lipid oxidation, increased thermogenesis, prevention of free fatty acids from entering adipocytes for lipogenesis, as well as other potential anti obesity effects (Li, 2008). Underlying Mechanisms of Anti Obesity Effects of PUFA PUFA decrease energy intake and/or increase energy expenditure The body s ability to maintain a balance between energy intake and output is controlled by multiple complex systems and imbalance of this system leads to metabolic symptoms such as obesity. Obesity normally occurs when energy intake exceeds energy output (Hanbauer et al 2009). It has been shown that overtime appetite is stimulated when there is a decrease in the circulating level of fat metabolizing products. An individual s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Exoplanet Proxima B Meaning On a daily basis, humans are forced to make countless decisions. They can be inconsequential like should I wear red socks or blue socks? or the weighty decision: Should I go to the convenience store that s five minutes away or drive for an hour to get to a large supermarket? . How does this translate to space travel? Well it is a simple and very accurate analogy. As dwellers of the Earth, we have a similar choice. Travel through space for an inexorable amount of time just to get some milk, bread and eggs or make a left at the intersection and drive straight until you pass Voyager 1. Then BAM! You have reached your destination. The exoplanet Proxima B, from the Proxima Centauristarsystem is the convenience store of space. Proxima B is conveniently situated and could conceivably support life. As well as its environmental aspects, humans would benefit from the increase in their extraterrestrial knowledge by colonizing there. School classes Daily hassle Becoming an adult Chronic stressor Deciding on a college Stressful event Money Situations Chronic stressor Family Problems Chronic stressor 2. There are many factors that could lead to the cause of a person s stress response. One includes any life events or change to a person. Any transition that causes you to change and adjust your life style can cause a great amount of stress, being that you cant go day to day like you may be use to. Whether it may be a positive or negative, it tends to be stress producing. In my view i m optimistic about this and try to see the bright side to things that may change my daily routine and think of it as it happened for the best. Another factor that may cause a persons stress is somehow being a part of a traumatic event. Events such as sexual assault, violence, or even unexpected loss of a loved one can stress a person out so much that it changes the view of their life completely and can cause changes in ways they carry themselves. It can cause symptoms such as nervousness and symptoms of anxiety which escalate the amount of stress they experience. Daily hassles is common for everyones stress. • 10. Hayden s The Middle Passage the e vivid and powerful Middle Passage is a creation of historical voices recalling the inhuman cruelty of a people transported as chattel. The Middle Passage refers to the middle journey of the triangular slave trade that began in the fifteenth century. The first leg of the journey entailed leaving the home port and sailing to the African coast to pick up Africans who would be sold as slaves in the New World. The middle passage is the portion of the journey in which Africans were transported to the New World, particularly the Caribbean, Hispaniola, or the American South, the barracoons of Florida. The passage detailing the responsibility of culture and slave traders and their humanity. What Hayden did with the Cinquez story in his poem, represents an outcome of significant proportions because of the time when he wrote the poem. Due to Hayden s manner of oddly conflicting his style with traditional epic characteristics, the poem fairly echoes with unexpected thematic inferences throughout its length. Hayden apparently did not want to be known as a Negro or Black Poet, but as an American poet. For him, the poem Middle Passage is not a black poem, but an American poem. The poem is set in the classic framework of a journey, one that begins when the African principals leave their villages. The departure is engineered as much by the African kings who sell their captives to satisfy their greed for luxuries, as it is by the Spanish greed for gold. The first lap of the journey is to the factories and places where the prisoners are sorted out, processed, and restrained for their coming enslavement. From a vantage point that spans time and place, the poet condemns the horrors of the Middle Passage, describing it as a voyage through death. He condemns American greed, that of ... A Summary Of Data Analysis There are numerous ways to represent this data visually and numerically, the first graph I did was the stem and leaf plot where you can see the frequency much clearer since the original data numbers are shown as in compare like a histogram where the frequency is easy to see, the original data points have been lost. For an example the grades, there are 13 values that were in the seventies, but is hard to determine from the histogram what those values might have been. In the stem and leaf plot shows the original values way easier, which is perfect to show to younger students because the horizontal leaves in the stem and leaf plot is the same to the vertical bars in the histogram, and the leaves have the heights that equal the numbers in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the box and whisker, the median is 78, almost 80, and that fifty percent of the students scored between 67 and 86 points, and seeing the plot is skewed to the left means that there are more values in the highs rather the lower numbers. The histogram and stem and leaf plot also shows how students passed the test by seeing the median and mode on the graph. The assigning of the scores I decided to have five letter grades which were, A, B, C, D, and F. Letter grade A is 90 100, B is 80 89, C is 70 79, D is 60 69, and F is 59 0. The reason I chose this grade assignment is because I wanted to know how many students have passed the exam beyond average or below. The average is a 70 79 and having five categories can show which students actually know the subject or need to work on it, whether over the average or under the average. Describing the middle of the data is that the central tendency by using the mean, median, or mode. The mean gives us the average, the median gives us which is the number in the middle of the set, while mode show us the most frequently occurring value in a data set. The box and whisker and histogram, it s better to use the median to describe the middle because since the mean is less than the median, that s why it s skewed because the high scores influence the direction of the graph. In this case, the median may be a better option to represent the typical grade on the test. To describe the overall ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is argued that although Lyra is a girl, but she does not wait for someone to help her like other female protagonists in other fantasy stories. The genocide of the Jews is known but what may be less well documented is Hitler s design to eradicate all groups other than the blue eyed, fair haired Aryans. So many of them were forgotten and just pushed in with the major race of the Jews, who were said to be unworthy of life. The people were not ready, nor expecting to be forced into such an egregious state of being. The Slavs, Poles, Gypsies, German homosexuals, Blacks, and the Communists were killed. Even the disabled and every one with incurable illnesses were Untermenschen as far as Hitler was concerned. The major race, besides the Jews, that was to be eliminated completely was the Romanian Gypsies (Friedman 7). No one of that race was allowed to live. From the ages zero to one hundred, absolutely no one was to remain alive. In the beginning, the Gypsies were treated poorly and their talent and success became a major threat to all the local people. It was then that Hitler decided they were not to be around anymore. They were all considered like second class citizens if not more poorly. The Nazi s were even told to experiment on them to try to prove that the Gypsies were somehow of different blood and not like that of the Master Race. With so many cyber breaches and personal data being released into the wrong hands has many companies wanting to strike back on their own. While this idea may seem reasonable I believe that companies should have a cyber strategy such as identifying assets, outline a plan of action, develop partnerships, and train their employees. Companies must first identify their asset and what it is they are wanting to protect. Each company has a different set of standards they are wanting to protect. • 16. The Most Memorable Writing Experience Most Memorable Writing Experience: My Reflection on Writing I have been writing since I have been in Middle School. I have realized that by college it was easier for me to write down my thoughts in order for me to remember what I have said or done. Writing out my thoughts gives me a sense of recollection, knowledge, and pacification that gets me through my day. I pictured writingto be as simple as jotting down a few sentences, but as I got farther in school I realized that there is more to it than just writing sentences. English has been my most difficult subject I have ever endured, but I have somehow been managing to make excellent grades and achieving all requirements. First in the essay, I will discuss my experiences in the English life that I ve taken so far up until college. The second part will list my struggles in creating a thesis, a work cited, and properly citing my sources used in the papers. My experience with English has changed drastically from middle school to college. • 17. Brain Tumor Research Paper Brain tumor Clinical feature A brain tumor is an abnormal development of tissue in the brain or central spine, which is accountable for appropriate brain functionality. Brain and spinal cord tumors are atypical growths of tissue found inside the skull or the bony spinal column, which are the chief constituents of the central nervous system (CNS). Benign tumors are noncancerous and malignant tumors are cancerous. The central nervous system (CNS) is accommodated within rigid, bony quarters (i.e., the skull and spinal column), so any uncharacteristic growth, whether benign or malignant, can place burden on sensitive tissues and damage function. Tumors that instigate in the brain or spinal cord are called primary tumors. Causes Most primary tumors are triggered by out of control growth amid cells that surround and support neurons. In a trifling number of individuals, primary tumors might arise from particular genetic ailment (e.g., neurofibromatosis, tuberous sclerosis) or from exposure to radiation or cancer causing compounds. The reason of most primary tumors remains unidentified. They are not transmissible and, at this time, not avoidable. Symptoms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 19. Gerry Mulligan Essay Counterpoint in Gerry Mulligan s Compositions and Arrangements In 1952 Gerald Joseph Gerry Mulligan (1927 1996) started playing at a jazz club in Los Angeles called The Haig. During that time he met a lot of the best jazz musicians on the West Coast, including Kenneth Norville Red Norvo , Erroll Garner, Chesney Chet Baker, Milton Shorty Rogers, Foreststorn Chico Hamilton, Clifford Bud Shank, Keith Red Mitchell, Robert Whitlock, and also some rising talent of the area. At The Haig, Mulligan created his famous pianoless quartet with Chico Hamilton on drums, Robert Whitlock on bass, and Chet Baker on trumpet. Mulligan s idea of having a rhythm section without a chordal instrument (i.e., piano, guitar, vibraphone) was in part inspired by his desire of using more counterpoint. Having gained a lot of experience as an arranger and composer with previous projects with Stan Kenton, and Miles Davis, Mulligan wanted to create a counterpoint oriented jazz group. This passage is an example of how Mulligan was creating three voice counterpoint with the quartet; the trumpet played the standard melody, while the saxophone performed a contrapuntal written line. There are many conflicting ideas about what poverty is, and more importantly, where it comes from. The make up of American society shows that so much in life can depend on one s family. Having opportune circumstances can land people jobs, but having the opposite can also perpetuate the depression and reality of povertyfor others. When people have reasons not to seize their days, they might sink deeper and deeper into the belief that they cannot truly escape poverty. The furthering of these children s education can lead to financial aid in college and a job upon graduating. New generations of young people attaining an excellent education can inspire other children in similar situations. Again, this requires a proper allocation of support. Conversely, according to Schiller (2008), the Flawed Character theory, Sees individuals as in full control of their socioeconomic status (p. 66). This over generalized statement should not be properly attributed to poor children in desolate living conditions. Being a poor individual does not mean you are permanently stuck there, but it can hinder your development. Children are not seemingly in full control of their status when they are told by their parents to live off the government. This ideal could make children more than likely to heed this ill advised lesson. Children being brought up on the belief that less effort is better would be a true testament to the ineptitude of this system. On the other hand, with money being spent on young people for education, the control of their lives increases much more. The belief that being poor will deny any opportunities can be greatly ... With the research of Sir Alec Jeffreys and his discovery that there are billions of personalized DNA sequences, there is no possibility that there would be misidentification. In addition to this, Jeffrey s research also taught DNA researchers worldwide that DNA can exonerate people as well as convict them. • 25. Character Analysis Of Morris Lurie s Running Nicely Running nicely is a short story written by Morris Lurie, about two orphan brothers: the protagonist, Moses, a twenty two years old young man and the antagonist, Ben, his younger brother. The story is set during the night at ten PM, in the streets in suburban Melbourne. When the two brothers are running, Moses realizes he has difficulty accepting that Ben is getting older, and that his younger brother is now running faster than him. The author suggests that familyrelationships after a loss may result in being abnormal and can have consequences on one s development and behavior. The author effectively conveys this theme through his use of characterization, narrative point of view and irony. To begin, the characterization of Moses in relation with his brother Ben demonstrates how the protagonist is struggling to be a perfect father substitute, after both parents passing away. Moses makes Ben grow too fast by doing adult type activities, like showing him jazz music, making him watch old movies and making him read books about war. By getting his brother learn about other things instead of watching the TV like their neighbors, he feels proud about how [...] he has weaned his brother, a former three hours a nigh man, off that awful habit. (2). After the death of their parents, Moses must take the responsibility of a father, but ends up controlling Ben too much by trying to educate him as an adult, while he is only twelve years old. Sartre is saying how there is an equal balance between tangible and intangible items, but the existence is more important than nature since man can choose what they define himself to be. (2009) suggested that MCDA can make a difference in making better and more transparent decision in the setting priorities in health. Baltussen et al. (2006) argued that priority setting in health intervention was often ad hoc and decisions were not optimally made. Instead they suggested implementing MCDA into health intervention decision making since there are many criterias to be considered in the priority setting of health intervention. They illustrated the comparison between ad hoc priority setting and rational priority setting in the following figure. Peacock et al. (2009) stated that MCDA is important because the degree of conflict between criteria, or conflict between different stakeholders regarding the importance of different criteria, is such that intuitive decision making is unsatisfactory (p. 127). However, they suggested using MCDA in health care planning for policy makers, they stated that they did not suggest abandoning the current tools that policy makers used to make decision. The thing that we do not always see with these advertisements is their subtle hints that make you wantto buy their products without you even realizing that you want to. One such company that does this is State Farm. They do this through the jingle , age of the actors, special moments in scene, or anything along the lines that State Farm is trying to capture your attention to sell you their products. To express this I will utilize three commercial videos from the company,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The mother says they are never moving to the suburbs and does so. As the husband is cleaning crayon off the wall, he eludes to the fact that he never wants to have another kid, but the wife states she is pregnant. Finally, the commercial ends with the husband saying he is never letting go. The whole commercial is promoting how State Farm will be there for all your Nevers in life. This would also show that they would protect a growing family. This gives State Farm customers a reassurance that they can count on the agents to be ready for whatever little mishaps might occur in our day to day lives. There is no prominent distinction of State Farm colors red and white, but in the subtle details of the clothing and baby chair, these colors are demonstrated. This helps show that State Farm is family ordinated. They are not only looking out for the parents, but also looking out for the children. Instead of having a jingle, the commercial uses the many phrases of never among the adults. All the way up to the end, the Nevers are negative, but the very last never is the dad explaining that he will not let go of what has become of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Moral Relativism In High Schools Today s society places feelings above all else. Feelings trump logic, reason, and other basic principles that all great societies value. This shift in predilection towards feelings has caused society to begin making decisions based on feelings as opposed to logic. Moral relativism is the philosophy where things such as ethics, morals and positions of right and wrong are subject to one s own beliefs; this philosophy eliminates all objective truths. Slowly but surely, society is turning into a moral relativistic society where everyone is free to create their own truth based on how they feel. For example, an objective truth would be The killing of innocent life is wrong, but a moral relativist could just as easily say, I feel that killing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to combat this ever pervasive problem, it must be attacked at the roots. This could be achieved through the teaching of good philosophy. This solution is not as easy as it seems though. Creating an environment that fosters intellectual thought and philosophical discussion within the school system will undoubtedly help students question ideas that are currently left unquestioned. Making philosophy class mandatory in high schools will nurture thoughtful minds that can entertain an idea without accepting it. Possessing the ability to do this will benefit students far greater than a guitar class or most other electives for that matter. A philosophy class will teach students rudimentary principles taught by some of the greatest thinkers of all time Aristotle, Socrates, and Plato. These basic principles will uproot and contradict many things society values today, most of which will be moral relativism. The implementation of philosophy into high schools is a macro solution that is far above anything I can do in my life at the moment. Despite this fact, I can still have an effect on a micro level. By living out the good philosophy that should be taught in schools, I allow my peers and community to see the effect that this philosophy has. • 41. President Woodrow Wilson s View Of Neutrality America had no intention of entering WWI as President Woodrow Wilson had declared their policy of neutrality in 1914 after the continent of Europe had erupted in conflict. President Wilson aimed to deal with all participants in the war in a fair way that did not show signs of allegiance to either side as he tried to help find a way towards peaceful resolution. Happenings in Europe soon changed Wilson s view of neutrality. Many American lives had been lost at sea after the sinking of the Lusitania and other ships due to Germany s unrestricted submarine attacks. Germany refused to alter their methods which forced Wilson to ask Congress for a declaration of war in 1917. At this time things were not going well for the Allied troops. Italy had suffered a major defeat after the Battle of Caporetto when the Austrians captured 275,000 soldiers. This had forced French and British troops forces to change their troops from the Western front to Italy in order to help them. At the same time the French Army was experiencing mutiny and many feared that she would collapse from within. In Russia there was a revolution as the Bolsheviks came to power ousting and executing the Romanov royal family. The country s internal struggle pulled them out of the war in 1917. The German submarine attacks on Britain were so powerful that many people predicted Britain s collapse within months. America entered the war at a slow pace. By analyzing seemingly unrelated sets of information, economists hope to see correlations that may help make informed choices. (Ouliaris, 2012) Econometrics has its limitations if data is incomplete or if the sampling period is insufficiently short the resulting information may not give the full picture as intended by the economists. (Ramcharan, 2012)This paper will discuss the use of econometrics in the healthcare setting. Use of statistics and analysis may have a role in decision making in future hospitalspending.
