STUDENT A: The three groups that I feel are most vulnerable based on statistical data and

Student B: First, let us discuss what is vulnerability. Vulnerability is "A person's risk level,
based on the factors such as environment, education, resources, and finances" (Burkholder,
D. M., et., al. 2014). When it comes to vulnerable mothers and children, I feel that they
received a reduced amount of care. Having children in this day and age has caused a lot of

4. people to kind of turn a blinds eye to certain care needs. When it comes to pregnancy.
Currently working with the healthcare system I have seen the amount of NICU babies and
deaths of mommies increase. According to research "women lack access to maternal
healthcare services, experience discrimination, and are often left to care for children during
these crises. This instability has contributed to high levels of maternal and child mortality"
(Women and Children Are the Most Vulnerable in a Weak Health System, n.d.). The reading
showed many years where there was a peak in "teen childbirths in 1991" (Burkholder, D.
M., et., al. 2014).
The next population that I believe is most vulnerable is the chronically ill and disabled
population. The reason being is that there aren't enough doctors and nurses to care for
these individuals. According to the reading "heart disease was responsible for 26.6% of all
registered deaths in 2005" (Burkholder, D. M., et., al. 2014). There are more numbers and
stats showing that due to being chronically ill and disabled there is a higher chance for a
person to be sick more often and even leading to death.
Lastly, the population that I feel is also vulnerable is those diagnosed with mental health. In
my previous course, I found that mental health is now starting to be a diagnosis that is being
investigated closely. There has been more awareness brought about by these patients and
their treatment. There are not many places for a patient to get treated. The reading shows
that "estimates indicate that one-quarter of the adult population experiences some form of
mental health disruption within a given year" (Burkholder, D. M., et., al. 2014). We can see
that there is "a positive trend in access to those services" (Burkholder, D. M., et., al. 2014). In
all three groups, one physical, mental, and social aspect of health is compromised. The
reason being is that most of the time there is no control over how the illness or diagnoses
will go. Being chronically ill can cause more issues that cause deuteriation to one's body,
mind, and speech. Having a baby can mean life or death for both mommy and baby. Mental
illness can cause a person to be off balance in thoughts and logic.
