The puritan movement
The Puritan movement in 16th-17th century England aimed to make society both personally righteous and to increase civil/religious liberty. Though begun as a religious movement, it expanded to a national movement supporting resistance to absolute monarchy. Key Puritan leaders like Cromwell and Thomas Hooker advocated for both religious tolerance and the first written constitution establishing democratic government. Shakespeare
William Shakespeare was an English playwright, poet and actor born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. Some of his most famous plays are the four great tragedies: Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear and Othello. He also wrote comedies and historical plays based on English history. Shakespeare died in 1616 at the age of 52.
