Rules: 1. If an adjective has 1 syllable, we add  –er  in the comparative, and  –est  in the superlative E.g.: big- bigger- biggest Tom is bigger than Jerry. Tom is the biggest.
 
 
2. If an adjective has 2 or more syllables, we add  more  in the comparative and  most  in superlative.  E.g.: beautiful- more beautiful- the most beautiful
Belle is  more beautiful  than Beast. Belle is  the most beautiful.
There are a few exceptions: Bad- worse- worst Good- better- best
Little (size) – smaller- smallest Far (place + time) – further- furthest Far ( place) – farther- farthest
Late (time) – later- latest Late (order) – latter- lattest Near (place) – nearer- nearest Near (order) – next ( superlative)
Old (people and things) – older- oldest Old ( people) – elder- eldest
Much- more- most Little- less- least  There is   little  milk left in the bottle. We bought  less   milk yesterday. The child refused to drink  the least  milk.
