Baidu was founded in 2000 by Robin Li and Eric Xu and is China's largest search engine, handling over 80% of the country's search queries. As China's main search platform, Baidu has expanded into other products and services such as its Baidu PostBar communication platform, Baidu Knows knowledge sharing platform, and Baidu Encyclopedia user-generated encyclopedia. While facing competition from companies like Alibaba and Tencent, Baidu remains China's dominant search provider due to its strong understanding of the Chinese market and ability to effectively parse Chinese language queries.

Robin Li: He co-founded the Chinese search engine Baidu[3] and is ranked as the seventh richest man in mainland China
In addition to our core web search product, we power many popular community-based products, such as Baidu PostBar, the world’s first and largest Chinese-language query-based searchable online community platform, Baidu Knows, the world’s largest Chinese-language interactive knowledge-sharing platform, and Baidu Encyclopedia, the world’s largest user-generated Chinese-language encyclopedia,
a platform that matches merchants with customers which it bought from once-red-hot Chinese social network Renren last year.
baidu claimed it has over 650,000 stores from across 330 cities in China. The firm said Nuomi processes close to 2 billion RMB (approximately $320 million) per month, and it is aiming to make it operational in all cities in China before the end of 2015.
Such services let users connect with nearby, everyday activities such as calling taxis, finding deals at local restaurants and booking cinema tickets through their smartphones.
The world knows Baidu as the search engine that kicked Google's butt out of China, with an assist from the Communist Party.
From the mainland Chinese user's perspective, Baidu can understand me and adapt to my habit.
For example, if I search the word"inch"or"feet"on Baidu, it will come up with a calculator on which you can change different measurement units easily. Input and output.
However, if I search it on the Google, it only tell me 1 feet=30.48 cm, if I want to switch the measurement unit, I have to calculate it by myself.
Here is the result of Baidu. The right side shows some relative celebrities that Baidu thinks you may be interested in. Take a glance at the left side, the first result is an introduction of Lana Del Rey, then some famous songs of Lana Del Rey are listed, you can click any song and listen to it right away, the third result is a Past bar of Lana Del Rey where her fans gather together. For me, the four major parts listed above contain core information I need, efficiently and simply.
More importantly, Baidu builds its empire, the information I mention above comes from Baidu encyclopedia (similar to Wikipedia), Baidu music box and Baidu Past Bar. Baidu seems omnipotent.
In Google, the right side is the introduction. Let's look at the left side:
Homepage of Lana Del Rey, for most users in China who have limited ability to understand English, it's not so useful
Introduction of Lana Del Rey from Baidu encyclopedia.
Introduction of Lana Del Rey from Wikipedia
A link to a website where you can enter and enjoy songs of Lana Del Rey
5-7 videos related to Lana Del Rey in YouTube. But actually because of the China's Great Firewall, YouTube is blocked for us.
So you can see the results are highly repeated and not so convenient for most China's users.
