The role of Non Governmental Organisations and Community based organisations has continued to evolve. What is the role of this third sector and how can the youth of today be a part of this key sector
Dr Simon Duffy gave this talk in June 2017 to the staff of Community Links and on behalf of DD Network. Simon explores the historical and philosophical background to recent innovations in self-directed support and citizenship. He argues that we should not be looking for a perfect model, but instead should work together to build on best-practice and challenge injustice. Simon also explained why Citizen Network had been formed to advance citizenship for all.

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.

2. What is a community?
Community is a broad topic within sociology/social sciences, and indeed even in the natural and physical
sciences. At the minimum it refers to a collection of people in a geographical area.
Largely,
• A community is a group of people who interact with one another, for example, as friends or neighbors.
• This interaction is typically viewed as occurring within a bounded geographic territory, such as a
neighborhood or city.
• The community’s members often share common values, beliefs, or behaviors.
So, we can list out the characteristics of a community as follows:
1. Territory
2. Close and informal relationships
3. Mutuality
4. Common values and beliefs
5. Organized interaction
6. Strong group feeling
7. Cultural similarity
3. What is community outreach?
• Community Outreach means reaching out to others or becoming involved in a community and put efforts
to help the citizens or people of the community in any aspect by communicating, creating awareness and
taking necessary actions towards the cause. Be it any sphere- health, education, accommodation, sanitation,
human rights, animal rights, legal help, etc.
• It can be done on an organizational level and an individual level as well.
• Community outreach is about giving, contributing, and helping those who cannot help themselves. It also
allows us to influence younger generations to give back to the community. It helps the community grow in
many ways. It can solve the problem of people not being aware of important aspects of life and being
deprived of the knowledge of it.
• Not only does it make ourselves feel good, but it brings the community together as a whole. Volunteering has
proven to help boost the self-confidence of individuals, getting them out of their comfort zone and dealing
with real-world problems. It can bring certain perspectives into view that you may not have been aware of
until you see others in need.
• There are many Non- governmental and governmental Organizations, trusts, industries and businesses which
contribute towards community outreach and social work.
• There are many individual social workers who contribute and reach out to the community.
4. My contribution
• Initially, I worked on an individual level along with my family towards organizing donation camps,
personal/individual donations, both in cash and kind.
• After that, I started volunteering with NGOs related to education and social
awareness/community outreach. I volunteered and worked for both- on and off the field work.
5. • In the year 2018, me and my family started an NGO named “Sahyog Setu” with the goal of creating awareness
in rural communities regarding health, sanitation, human and legal rights.
• I am an online volunteer and a city reporter with UNDP India since last 4 - 5 years. I spread awareness on and
offline and online on the topics and content provided by them. I fill and circulate questionnaires formulated
by them as part of some critical surveys within the city and country.
6. • Recently, I have worked with an NGO “Wish a smile”. It is established with the main purpose of providing
Medical, Legal and Educational help to the underprivileged and people with financial difficulties.
• I volunteered for an awareness seminar on the topic “Prevention of sexual harassment at workplace”. Covered
the event for awareness and promotion purpose and participated actively in the question answer round and
shared my experiences and talked about related issues.
• I currently work with them as a content creator, volunteer and manage their social media.
7. I am dedicated to work for the community and try to bring
about great changes in the society and maybe reach out to a
larger sphere and ultimately globally. My area of interest will
be sustainability and animal rights.
