                  Community Inclusion
              Educational Opportunities
                  Increase Facilities Use
   Create Awareness About Preservation Efforts
   Subject to both Seminole County Public Schools
    and University of Central Florida litigation
   Volunteers must be approved by SCPS dividends
    program
   Limited resources due to funding limitations and
    two-year lease limitations
   Number of other bodies such as the Friends Of
    the Student Museum group
   Door-to-door advertising
   Open house events
   Girl Scouts heritage events
   Public History class projects:
    ex: History Harvest
   Education Expos
   Event attendance in the historic district
   1. Are we reaching the audience that we need
    to reach?

   2. Are there tools available at low cost?

   3. Are there techniques to encourage follow-
    through from expressed interest?

   4. How can the differing bodies and
    stakeholders be effectively managed without
    creating disjointed communication?
Classmate Anne Ladyem McDivitt and I created online advertising for
the Student Museum prior to the lease agreement

Anne’s focus: A streamlined stand-alone website to showcase exhibits
and museum information separate from the SCSP website

My focus: Explore options for a social media package at no cost to the
                                        museum. Also examine
                                        methods to consolidate older,
                                        repetitive profiles and make
                                        information on events
                                        accessible.

                                        Presented these findings to the
                                        Friends of the Student Museum
                                        as well as UCF Graduate
                                        Research Forum
   Class divided into five focus groups for
    assessment
   John Settle and myself: “Community
    Stakeholders, Marketing and Public Relations”
   Task to assess multiple bodies involved and
    create a recommendation proposal
   Divided into three efforts:
    immediate future, near future, and eventual
    future
   Fundraise for self-sustainable funds

   Charity fundraising must be done through
    Friends of the Student Museum group now

   Methods for PHC:
    1. Increase walk-in visitor donations
    2. Increase facilities rental bookings
    3. Grants or outside funding opportunities
   Establish collaborative relationships with
    other historic bodies

   Incorporate local historic community

   Create well-defined ongoing marketing
    strategy

   Includes package with information and
    literature to encourage participation
   Represent a strong presence in the community

   Conduct research utilizing former students or
    personal connections to the museum

   Possess streamlined marketing package for
    various purposes:
    - volunteer information
    - visitation information
    - rental information

   Maintain a uniform and constant marketing
    strategy
Also have hosted Girl Scouts heritage
events and “Fright School”

Attempt to bring in volunteers
   How do we draw further deliverables?

   Garner commitments for volunteer efforts?

   Reach a larger pool of educators?

   What resources are not being utilized?

   Are there tools out there to simplify the
    process?
    What is the next step??

Community Outreach for the Public History Center

  • 1. In context to the UCF Public History Center
  • 2.  1902-1911: First High School in Sanford  1911-1984: Sanford Grammar School  1984: Added to National Register of Historic Places; opened as Sanford Student Museum  2012: Partnered with UCF to become the Public History Center
  • 3. Volunteer Recruitment  Advertising and Media  Community Inclusion  Educational Opportunities  Increase Facilities Use  Create Awareness About Preservation Efforts
  • 4. Subject to both Seminole County Public Schools and University of Central Florida litigation  Volunteers must be approved by SCPS dividends program  Limited resources due to funding limitations and two-year lease limitations  Number of other bodies such as the Friends Of the Student Museum group
  • 5. Door-to-door advertising  Open house events  Girl Scouts heritage events  Public History class projects: ex: History Harvest  Education Expos  Event attendance in the historic district
  • 6. 1. Are we reaching the audience that we need to reach?  2. Are there tools available at low cost?  3. Are there techniques to encourage follow- through from expressed interest?  4. How can the differing bodies and stakeholders be effectively managed without creating disjointed communication?
  • 7. Classmate Anne Ladyem McDivitt and I created online advertising for the Student Museum prior to the lease agreement Anne’s focus: A streamlined stand-alone website to showcase exhibits and museum information separate from the SCSP website My focus: Explore options for a social media package at no cost to the museum. Also examine methods to consolidate older, repetitive profiles and make information on events accessible. Presented these findings to the Friends of the Student Museum as well as UCF Graduate Research Forum
  • 8. Class divided into five focus groups for assessment  John Settle and myself: “Community Stakeholders, Marketing and Public Relations”  Task to assess multiple bodies involved and create a recommendation proposal  Divided into three efforts: immediate future, near future, and eventual future
  • 9. Fundraise for self-sustainable funds  Charity fundraising must be done through Friends of the Student Museum group now  Methods for PHC: 1. Increase walk-in visitor donations 2. Increase facilities rental bookings 3. Grants or outside funding opportunities
  • 10. Establish collaborative relationships with other historic bodies  Incorporate local historic community  Create well-defined ongoing marketing strategy  Includes package with information and literature to encourage participation
  • 11. Represent a strong presence in the community  Conduct research utilizing former students or personal connections to the museum  Possess streamlined marketing package for various purposes: - volunteer information - visitation information - rental information  Maintain a uniform and constant marketing strategy
  • 12. Also have hosted Girl Scouts heritage events and “Fright School” Programming being developed for summer camp
  • 13. Booth Presence at Events such as Sanford’s Birthday Celebration Booth at UCF Education Expo Attempt to bring in volunteers
