This document discusses common table expressions (CTE) and window functions in MySQL 8.0. It provides examples of using CTEs to improve readability, allow referencing tables multiple times, and refer to other CTEs. It also discusses recursive CTEs, window functions, and examples calculating aggregates like sums over partitions of rows.
How to Take Advantage of Optimizer Improvements in MySQL 8.0Norvald Ryeng
MySQL 8.0 introduces several improvements to the query optimizer that may give improved performance for your queries. This presentation looks at what kind of queries the different improvements apply to, and the focus is on what you can do to get the most out of the optimizer improvements. The main topics are changes to the optimizer cost model, histograms, and new optimizer hints, but other improvements to how MySQL executes queries are also covered. The presentation includes many practical examples of how you can get a significant speedup for your MySQL queries.

MySQL InnoDB Cluster and Group Replication in a Nutshell: hands-on tutorialFrederic Descamps
If you are trying to migrate from asynchronous Master-Slave environment to a full HA solution using MySQL InnoDB Cluster 8.0, this tutorial shows you how to proceed and how to manage and monitor your cluster.
MySQL 8.0 is the latest Generally Available version of MySQL. This session will help you upgrade from older versions, understand what utilities are available to make the process smoother and also understand what you need to bear in mind with the new version and considerations for possible behavior changes and solutions.
MySQL InnoDB Cluster - Advanced Configuration & OperationsFrederic Descamps
MySQL InnoDB Cluster is a very easy HA solution to deploy. However it's also a very customizable solution able to respond to most needs. During this session I will give an overview of settings that you may tune like those related to quorum lost, level of consistency, but also some you may not know like how to change recovery system, effect of increasing the event horizon. We will also discus about maintenance operations like how to stream large transactions, how to deal with DDL in multi-primary environments...
Open Source 101 2022 - MySQL Indexes and HistogramsFrederic Descamps
Nobody complains that the database is too fast. But when things slow down, the complaints come quickly. The two most popular approaches to speeding up queries are indexes and histograms. But there are so many options and types on indexes that it can get confusing. Histograms are fairly new to MySQL but they do not work for all types of data. This talk covers how indexes and histograms work and show you how to test just how effective they are so you can measure the performance of your queries.
Replication Troubleshooting in Classic VS GTIDMydbops
This presentation talk will assist you in troubleshooting MySQL replication for the most common issues we might face with a simple comparison of how can we get them solved in the different replication methods (Classic VS GTID).
Have you ever wondered about the internal structure of indexes in postgres? What's the difference between a btree and a gin index? How are indexes searches etc. ? This talk is about this.

Presentation of Common Table Expressions (CTE), recursive or not , a new feature in MySQL 8.0; slides written by Guilhem Bichot, developer of the feature, and presented by him at the Percona Live Conference in Dublin on 2017-09-26.
MySQL 8.0 makes it possible to write queries that do more. MySQL can now traverse hierarchies, analyze data in new ways, and combine JSON and spatial data with traditional types — all in the same query.
In this presentation, we'll look at common table expressions (CTEs), window functions, geography support and JSON functionality, and how these can be used to do things no MySQL query has ever done before.

How to Analyze and Tune MySQL Queries for Better Performanceoysteing
Tutorial at Oracle Open World 2015:
Performance of SQL queries plays a big role in application performance. If some queries execute slowly, these queries or the database schema may need tuning. This tutorial covers query processing, optimization methods, and how the MySQL optimizer chooses a specific plan to execute SQL. See demonstrations on how to use tools such as EXPLAIN (including the JSON-based variant), optimizer trace, and performance schema to analyze query plans. See how the Visual Explain functionality in MySQL Workbench helps you to visualize these plans. Based on the analysis, the tutorial covers how to take the next steps for performance tuning. It might mean forcing a particular index, changing the schema, or modifying configuration parameters.

First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.

Enhancing Research Orchestration Capabilities at ORNL.pdfGlobus
Cross-facility research orchestration comes with ever-changing constraints regarding the availability and suitability of various compute and data resources. In short, a flexible data and processing fabric is needed to enable the dynamic redirection of data and compute tasks throughout the lifecycle of an experiment. In this talk, we illustrate how we easily leveraged Globus services to instrument the ACE research testbed at the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility with flexible data and task orchestration capabilities.
Understanding Globus Data Transfers with NetSageGlobus
NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?
