1. COMMON MENTAL DISORDERS
a.Delusion – a strong belief opposed to
reality which the individual steadfastly
maintains in spite of logical persuasion and
evidence to the contrary.
b.Dementia – reduction of mental shock, a
permanent,irreversible loss of intellectual
efficiency. It is most commonly seen in the
elderly.
2. c. Depression – a state of low vitality,
a mood or emotional state that is
marked by sadness, inactivity and a
reduced ability to enjoy life.
• d.Paranoia – a mental disorder in
which the sufferer believes that other
people suspect,despise or persecute
him.
• e. Amnesia – loss of memory caused
by shock,injury,fatigue,senelity,drug
use,alcoholism,anesthesia or illness.
3. f. Hallucination- is a mental state in
which a person
sees,tastes,hears,smells or feels
something that is not present.
• g. Anxiety – a condition of heightened
and disruptive inner tension
accompanied by a vague feeling of
uneasiness and apprehension.
• h. Panic – a high degree of fear based on
prolonged tension with a sudden climax
which is characterized by fear, extreme
insecurity,suspiciousness and a tendecy
of disorganization.
4. h. Tension – the patient has a
continuing feeling of tautness both
emotionally and his muscles.
• i. Phobia -means a strong unreasonable
fear of a particular object or situation.
• J. Obsession – thoughts that persistently
thrust themselves into consciousness
against the conscious desire of the
patient.
• K. Illusion – a false interpretation by the
mind of a sense perception.
5. l. Retardation – the state of being
backward in mental development.
