Essay On Unanimous Verdict
In criminal trials the end verdict must be unanimous. If the jury can t decide on a unanimous
verdict, then the case will be rendered as a mistrial or hung jury. Although in some states a verdict
of eleven to one or ten to two is accepted. Verdicts like this may only be accepted if the deliberation
is longer than a certain amount of time. Although most states require a unanimous verdict, most
people disagree. In my opinion every verdict must be unanimous. There are various reasons why
verdicts should be unanimous. I believe that the main reason is when jurors give the wrong
verdict. In many criminal cases the verdict isn t always the right one. For example, in some cases
the accused is said to be innocent and in reality they are guilty.... Show more content on

The other result is that the criminal continues to commit crimes. This is a very big issue if the
criminal was accused for murder. If a murderer was set free, they might want to kill other people.
In other cases, the accused is said to be guilty, and in reality they are innocent. In this case there
could also be two results. If the accused was said to be guilty, they have to serve their time.
Depending on how bad the crime was, the accused might go to jail forever. In some parts of the
world, the criminal might get the death penalty. Maybe ten years later, someone might go back
to the case and prove that the criminal wasn t guilty. If someone disproved the guilty verdict,
they might release the criminal. Even if they release the victim, they still had to suffer through
years of prison. On the other hand, if the criminal received the death penalty, there is no way of
bring said person back to life. In the case of Twelve Angry Men the nineteen year old boy was
said to be innocent. Juror number eight says that the boy is innocent and gives a variety of
reasons. He states, He s nineteen years old. Since the boy was innocent he had to be set free. If we
were guilty, then it

Thomas Heyward Research Paper
Thomas Heyward. Jr. Thomas Heyward. Jr. was born July 28, 1746, on his father s plantation in
St. Lukes Parish, South Carolina. He is named Thomas Heyward. Jr. because his father named
his older sibling as well, so gave him the Jr. at the end of his name to make a distinction between
the two. He grew up pretty wealthy, with his father being one of the wealthiest rice planters at
the time. Heyward s dad wanted what was best for his three children s education so Heyward got
an education at home, then went to England to study law at Cambridge University. Heyward s
father was also a strong royalist, and was devoted to the King. Heyward returned to South Carolina

Chechnya
Chechnya The Continuing Conflict
Chechnya is situated in the Caucasus Mountains, between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. It is
surrounded by Dagestan to the east, Georgia and South Ossetia to the south, Russia to the north and
North Ossetia in the west. Chechnya is rich in mineral oil and produced twenty million tons per
year before the disintegration of the Soviet Union. The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 created
the opportunity for the Russian provinces to declare their independence. The Russian government
managed to keep its control of all states apart from Chechnya, which, under the new president
Dzhokhar Dudayev, declared independence in October 1991.

The news reported from the ravaged cities within Chechnya is more than disturbing, but as
disturbing as this is, media bias does need to be accounted for. The eyewitness accounts and the
various reports from Human Rights activists are all informative but of a distinct nature, to disgrace
the west into doing some thing about the disintegrating situation in the state. Russian forces have
committed grave abuses, but the situation is one that needs to be rendered regardless of how it is
reported. Human Rights Watch have documented both Russian and Chechen acts of war crimes.
The situation is dire in all cases from massacres, rapes and beatings, to completely ignoring the
well fair of civilians. The Russians have disregarded completely the Geneva Convention
obligations, with central market bombings; civilians deaths in Chechnya weigh heavily in the total
death toll of the war. This situation is unacceptable for wartime in the twenty first century. The war
has taken its toll on many parts of Chechnya; most areas look more like wasteland, especially the
capital Grozny.
The Russian atrocity s are documented by many individual groups, yet all say much the same
thing: Russian forces have refused to allow civilians a safe passage through to neighbouring
borders for refuge, men especially had trouble leaving, being beaten tortured and often subject to
arbitrary arrest.

Harriet Jacobs Thesis
Harriet Jacobs was an African American slave that left an impact on several people in ending
slavery. Not just on how slavery was, but especially how it was for the women. She wrote a
autobiography on her time in slavery to address the white women in the North who do not fully
comprehend the evils of slavery. She makes direct appeals to their humanity to expand their
knowledge and influence their thouhts about slavery as a institution. This autobiography was
published in a newspaper in the North and was part of the beginnings on ending slavery. Her
autobiography is telling of her time during the years of service at the Flint houseold. She was
young when she first started to work for them. And during her early years she was able to
participate in the activites the master s children did. But when she turned fifteen things took a sad

Flint was a nasty, vile, and disgusting old man. He was not faithful to his wife and thought of
Harriet as his property to do whatever he liked to. Harriet had once said that beauty was a curse
for a slave girl, meaning that if a slave girl had the misfortune of beauty, her master would desire
her. He would whisper vile things into Harriets ear. So many impure things that she could not
bring herself to say in her auotbiography. She would try to object to his cruelity but he would
always demand her service seeing as how he was her master. And, growing up knowing that she
was to obey her master, she didn t have much of a fight. Dr. Flint not only abused Harriet, but
threatened her with her life if she did not keep quiet about all he had done. She, herself, felt dirty,
and tainted. Like the life and joy she had once experinced as a child had vanished, and was
replaced with a dull, gray, world of emptyness. Even other slaves began to notice her sadness. They
understood, especially the women, exactly what she was going through. No one was to talk about

How Rituals Permit the Practice of Worship in Hinduism Essay
Ritual is a religious or solemn ceremony consisting of a series of actions performed according to a
prescribed order. Hinduism major religious and cultural tradition of the Indian subcontinent,
developed from Vedic religion.. There are two types of worship such as: temple worship and
domestic worship. Therefore, within these types of worshipping there are rituals that are performed.
Some of these rituals include prasad, darshan, and puja. Thus, A ritualfunction is a tradition that is

Second, darshan is part of the tradition when Hindus make a pilgrimage or visit to the temple.
Darshan is the seeing and being seen by the deity in the temple or by a holy teacher and the
experience of beholding with faith. (Oxtoby p.320) Also, according to Lucy Du Pertuis, darshan
means sight of the deity or the guru who embodies him/her, usually for the purpose of imbibing his
/her divine powers or grace.
Third, domestic worship also known as puja is a significant way for Hindus to express their
devotion. Domestic worship is when Hindus express their devotion to a deity or spiritual teacher
is through rituals performed in the household. According to the Oxtoby: Daily puja typically
consists of simple acts in which all family members can take part, such as lighting oil lamps, and
incense sticks, reciting prayers, or offering food to the deity. (Oxtoby p.300) Many of the
domestic rituals are more particularized towards females of the households. In India, women
gather around on fixed days to celebrate the goddess by fasting and feasting. Moreover, the women
would consist of performing rituals for happiness of the whole clan. As an example, in

Evaluating Csd 363 Is A Practicum Course On Children s...
CSD 363 is a practicum course that gives students the opportunity to provide schools with free
speech and hearing screenings. This class is mutually beneficial, seeing that students have an
undergraduate opportunity to start practicing skills typically developed in graduate school, and
that families receive valuable services for free. The screenings given are comprised of two parts:
the Fluharty Speech and Language test, and an audiology pure tone screening including a look in
the ears with an otoscope. Under the supervision of a licensed supervisor, students will be giving
these screenings and making recommendations about further evaluations if necessary.
The goal is screening a 3 5 year old is to identify any factors that may impact the child s
communication, developmental health, or future academic performance (ASHA). At this age,
screenings may be mandated by a school, recommended by a doctor, or simply requested from a
family. For screenings, it is common to do an otoscope exam, pure tone test, and tympanogram
reading. The otoscope is used to make sure there are no foreign bodies or cerumen blocking the ear
canal (Oxford Medical). This would create an inaccurate screening. A pure tone test will identify
the faintest tone a person can hear at select frequencies. A way to screen this age group is with a
strategy called conditioned play audiometry during a pure tone test. With this, the child is asked to
perform an activity every time a tone is heard. The

Rhetorical Analysis Of President Obama s Inauguration Speech
The Inauguration address is made by the newly sworn in President of the United States every four
years. This custom started, by our nation s first President George Washington, in 1789 (President).
Every President since Washington has given this speech. Presidents utilize this to bestow their plan
in the forthcoming years of the United Statesand ambitions for America. This is utmost one of the
most important days in the History of America as it signaled the birth of a new nation. In today s
context it signals a peaceful exchange of power in the most disruptive of times. The speech is
primarily given out to the citizens of the United States, who need to know what the future holds
for them; Now in a world of globalization and foreign policy this speech is paid attention to
throughout the world. All Inaugural addresses are similar. First they start with their greeting, then
examine the state of the nation, the newly elected President presents the issues of the country and
the plan to solve them. After the President draws upon powerful lessons and rhetoric to bring
inspiration to the American people and finally closes off to end the address. President Obama was
no stranger to that as he has done that, like every President before him, not once but twice, in 2009
and 2013. Using rhetoric, President Obama grasps the attention and impacts audiences listening and
watching all over the world in 2013. The three rhetorical devices President Obama uses are:

Comparison Of Ferdinand And Isabella Of Spain
Before the accession of Ferdinand and Isabella, Spain was fragmented into four different
kingdoms; Castile, Aragon, Navarre and Granada. They married in 1469 before either was on the
throne but by the death of King Henry IV, Isabella took the crown for Castile this in turn meant that
the two kingdoms became untied both Ferdinand and Isabella ruled in unison, this is uncommon as
it was supposed to one monarch, however the way they ruled together made them very successful.
Their motto being Tanto monta, monta tanto (They amount to the same). One of their main goals
was to enact administrative reforms. Firstly the Santa Hermandad (Holy Brotherhood) were set up

American s Strategy Against the Spanish
After the Civil War, the United States Navy had been completely demobilized. It had commenced
the destruction of many warships utilized by the Union and had also stopped the production of
new ships. Naval powers in Europe had far surpassed the United States Navy as new and advanced
technologies were being put to use. The nation s lack of overseas coaling stations kept the United
Statesattached to the use of sail power. This was not efficient in order to protect American interests
overseas. The image of the United States was projected through its lack of an effective Navy. The
public was so engulfed with other intercontinental issues, such as western expansion, that the Navy
was not an important asset. The U.S. finally came to its senses in 1890 s when the first battleships,
including the U.S.S. Maine, was commissioned with steam power and a steel hull. As the Navy
began to redevelop, tensions between the Spanish and United States also began to develop. In
1873 Spanish authorities in Cuba executed 53 men who had been smuggling guns to Cuban
revolutionaries in the steamer Virginius. Many of those executed were American citizens including
the Captain of the Virginius Joseph Fry, a Naval Academy graduate. The weak assembly of a Navy
to intimidate the Spanish frustrated those who advocated for a stronger Navy. America had sided
with Cuba in its effort to fight for independence from Spain. America had begun to portray the
Spanish as ruthless people holding Cuba s independence

The Rise Of Violent Crimes
Violent crimes are more likely to be reported to the police than property crimes, for the reason that
it tends to have witnesses. Not only can witnesses help catch the criminal, but there s also always a
victim. The victim can report the crime and give descriptions of the offender. Now when it comes
to property crimes, there s not always a witness, the criminal might break in a house, however, the
residents might not be in the home at the moment. This makes it harder to catch the criminal,
because the victims don t have enough prove that they can show when they are filling a police
report. I am actually very surprised that the data showed that 80% of car thefts are reported. I m
surprised, because even though it s still a high percentage, it

1. What type of market are you in? Only retailers that offer similar products and are in competitive
markets are forced to make this discounting strategy choice. For example, pricing is a key
differentiator of retailers selling homogenous products price is important in a market where two
similar grocery stores, located a mile or two apart, sell the same products. Retailers in this
market environment have to adopt an EDLP or Hi Lo pricing strategy. In contrast, Whole Foods
(or as my sister prefers to call it, Whole Paycheck ) offers a differentiated product (natural and
organic foods). And while Whole Foods runs occasional specials, discounting is not a primary
component of its retail strategy. 2. Are your customers price sensitive? Convenience stores like
7 Eleven, even those located close to discount grocery stores (selling the same products at a
significant discount), often cater to less price sensitive customers. If your customers are not price
sensitive, there s less of a need to adopt an EDLP or Hi Lo pricing strategy. 3. Do you have a cost
advantage? If you are going with an EDLP strategy, it d be helpful to posses a cost advantage.
There should be a measurable difference between your EDLP price and a Hi Lo retailer s Hi price.

Characteristics Of Princess Diana
Abstract
Princess Diana was known as the people s princess; but Diana was much more than that. Diana was
an activist, humanitarian, public servant and a leader. Princess Diana s entire adult life was focused
on helping those less fortunate, those suffering from debilitating diseases and offering aide to
people from third world countries. Diana didn t just contribute time but focused on attracting the
attention of the media which brought spectators and in return brought followers. These
followers were willing to contribute time and resources to hundreds of causes Princess Diana
found important. Diana had great charisma that she spread to all the people she met. In the
developing countries she was able to empower others by improving their self esteem (Gram
2013). Princess Diana led a life of giving and through many years of personal grief and loss
followed by a tragic death the world has suffered a great loss as well. Fortunately, Diana was
such an impactful leader that to this day there are memorial funds set up in Princess Diana s name
to assist with many of the charities that the Princess adored. Because of the hours and back
breaking work the Princess put in to these charities, they still reap benefits from the followers of
the people s leader, Princess Diana.
Princess Diana; a Leader A leader can possess many unique qualities. Merriam Webster defines a
leader as someone who guides others. A quick google search provides a definition of a person
who commands a group. Princess Diana was known to compassionately guide people to service.
Without instructing, verbalizing or motioning Diana was able to influence the way the world felt
about many different causes. Princess Diana was able to change the world s views and
perceptions about contagious diseases, third world countries and many different world crises.

Race To Equality Essay
Race to Equality
In 1959, 55.1% of the black population were living in poverty. (Historical Statistics of the United
States: Millennial Edition) It is known that colored people were not privileged, or even treated
respectably as human, until the civil rights movement took place. Many situations were found
where judgment among humans of a different race, other than white, were unfair. Three cases in the
Supreme Court concerning colored races were unjustly ruled during the Civil Rights movement:

Leadership Based On Strengths By Tom Rath
Leadership Based on Strengths StrengthsFinder 2.0, written by Tom Rath, was a book I chose
for a purpose. Rath mentions that when we live within our shortcomings/ our weaknesses, we
tend to live in this world unhappy and unmotivated (Rath, 2007). In this paper, I will discuss
some background and major topics presented in his book. I will describe how his topics can be
useful in nursing practice, as well as my own practice. I will end this paper with a look into how
his book helped me to grow in my own soon to be leadership role. Background Tom Rath began
working with a group of scientists in 1998 to start a conversation about our strengths (Rath,
2007). A 40 year study, led by Donald O. Clifton, helped to create a language of common talents,
and in 2001, included this assessment into their bestselling management book Now, Discover
Your Strengths (Rath, 2007). During their study, they found out that people who do have the
opportunity to focus on their strengths every day are six times as likely to be engaged in their
jobs and more than three times as likely to report having an excellent quality of life in general
(Rath, 2007, pg. iii). A major problem with this was a majority of people were either unsure of or
unable to explain their strengths (Rath, 2007). When developing StrengthFinder 2.0, the ultimate
goal was to build upon your true strengths which take practice and hard work (Rath, 2007).

the villagers and everybody else looked up to him to ask God for forgiveness for their sins. In
the Roman Empire, when the emperor was absent for different reasons the pope basically took

Rogerian Death Penalty
Capital punishment, the state imposed penalty of death, continues to be one of the most
controversial issues in contemporary American public policy. Since the earliest days of its
employment in the colonial era until today, citizens have struggles with the issue of when and
under what circumstances the taking of a human life by the state can be morally or legally justified.
For some opponents of the death penalty, the simple answer is that the taking of a human life is
always morally and ethically wrong, even when conducted under the auspices of state authority as a
legal punishment. In contrast, proponents of capital punishmenthave contended with equal fervor
that the death penalty is morally justified as a form of retributive justice,... Show more content on

Abolitionist states seem unlikely to adopt capital statutes, and most death penalty states conducting
executions seem equally unlikely to eliminate the punishment. Similarly, states where the death
penalty is used frequently, such as Texas, seem certain to continue doing so, while those states
that use it infrequently., such as California, seems unlikely to begin frequent use (Hill, 2014).
The utilitarian theory would view the death penalty as moral because they look at what would
make most the people happy. Utilitarianism was founded by John Stuart Mills and Jeremy
Bentham. By killing the person who took another person s live, the victim s family would be
pleased that justice was served, and the rest of society would be happy knowing that the murderer
would never be able to escape and harm them. This theory does allow life without parole as an
alternative to the death penalty, since the murderer is still being punished and society s happiness

Frontline PBS Documentary on the real CSI

as simple as it appears on television shows. Detective. Joanna Grivetti who is a crime scene

things you don t want to smell, seeing things you don t want to see and dealing with blood in
order to collect evidence that may seem small at the time, but will ultimately (possibly) be a big

He was convicted and sent to the Mississippi state penitentiary to await execution. Thanks to an
organization called The Innocence Project and Peter Neufeld (Lawyer Co founder), both Brooks
and Brewer were eventually cleared of the wrongful convictions and released. Neufeld stated
that there have been hundreds of people who were wrongfully convicted based on Bite Mark
testimony. Neufeld further stated that a study of the cases of people who were exonerated by
DNA evidence showed that 60% of those cases involved invalid evidence or misapplication of
science. In the Casey Anthony case Jeff Ashton who is a former state attorney in Orange county

Why I Was Surprised When Octavie Was Still Alive
I was very surprised with the end to The Locket. In no way did I think that Edmond was still
alive. According to the short story Edmond was at war, but he never got seriously injured. So,
when I read that he had past, and the locket was returned to Octavie I was shocked. Made
precious as material things sometimes are by being forever identified with a significant moment
of one s existence. This quote is very sad because Octavie is remembering what she had with
Edmond and the fact that she will have to go through life with just memories of their time
together, instead of making more memories is upsetting to her. It wasn t until she was with Judge
Pillier when it was a little strange that he wasn t as upset to lose his son, as

Though overfishing and lack of proper fisheries management has left much of the world in a

Aristole s View on Drama
Preamble
Drama is an aspect of literature represented in performances and has been a part of the world for
many decades. Drama originated in classical Greece around the fifth century B.C. The earliest
performances took place in amphitheaters, which the Greeks invented to incorporate plays in their
religious and civic festivals. These Greek festivals were huge theatrical events filled with three
days of drama. The structure of the amphitheater allowed for an audience of thousands to observe
the theatrics and watch as the actors vie to win the drama competition. In addition, ancient Greek
theater used dramas to relay moral and political messages to their communities.
There are two different categories of drama: comedy and tragedy. Greek ... Show more content on

Shakespeare is said to have shaped the beginnings of modern day culture through his tragic plays by
introducing man as the tragic hero rather than the Gods. Although both Miller and Shakespeare
have modified the classic Greek tragedies in this manner they still fulfill Aristotle s definition of
tragedy in many ways.
Aristotle Vs Othello and Death of a Salesman Shakespeare s protagonist, Othello and Miller s
protagonist, Willy Lowman are both considered the tragic heroes in the play. Othello is a moor
and a general in Venetian army. He is experienced in battle and valued by the people. Since he is
this well respected military leader, the people listened and cared about what he had to say. One
instance of his high regard can be seen when one of the senators said, Here comes Barbantio and
the valiant Moor , (Act I scene 3). With Othello overcoming racist Venice and managing to gain
this high status in the community, Aristotle s first requirement for a tragic hero is fulfilled.
However, many would argue that in Millers play, Willy Lowman s character stretches the
definition of a tragic hero. Since Willy Lowman was a mere salesman struggling to seize the
American dream he would definitely not be considered a man of high status. Although Willy
Lowman did hold one honorable position and that was head of the household. This is illustrated
during a conversation that Willy s wife Linda has with their son Biff. Linda Says No. You can t

Summary Of Lysistrata
Lysistrata by Aristophanes is seen to be a comical play used to show the impact of war not only on
the ones physically in the war, but the ones mentally involved also. This play was written to help
express the feeling the author had about the war occurring during the time the work was written.
Lysistrata, the main character, is a strong womanwho decides to become as what could be said as
being rebellious . She does this by refusing to have sexual relations with the men in the city until
it was agreed that peace would be declared between the two troops. She calls a meeting with the
women in the city and include them in her vindictive ideas to bring the war to an end. This play is
sure to bring a smile to the readers face due to the comical events that occur. However, comedy is
not the only thing that becomes apparent within the play. Throughout the work of Lysistratathere are
three themes that become apparent during this play: peace and harmony, control by gender, and
politics.
Peace and Harmony is the central theme in the play. Lysistrata is out to end the prolonged war.
After consideration on how to accomplish her wishes, and idea finally arises. Lysistrata holds a
meeting with all the women to become rebellious and refuse to have sexual relations with the men.
During this meeting between all the women, Lysistrata states, From now on, no more penises for
you (Line 124). The women first do not know how to react as they have not seen their husbands in

China And The Implementation Of Pinyin
Over Population in China and the implementation of Pinyin In response to massive over
population in China, the Chinese over has taken drastic measures to reduce the nation s
population. The first step that was implemented was the one child policy also known as; pinyin.
Pinyin is the one child limitation on the majority of families that live in the People s Republic of
China. It is enacted under the official family planing policy. It limits the number of children
marries urban couples to have to one. The exceptions only apply to those who are: ethic
minorities, rural families who depend on children for farming and, parents without any siblings
themselves. The Chinese government has given an official statement saying that roughly to 35
to 40 percent of the Chinese population falls under the one child rule. The higher ups in the
government bureaucracy who mostly live in Macau and some parts of Hong Kong are not
affected by this policy as well. The policy was brought up by the government in 1978 but, was
officially enacted to first born children in 1979. Like today, China was dealing with many social,
economic, and environmental problems. Pinyin was a response to alleviate these problems.
Chinese authorities claimed that pinyin has prevented around 250 to 300 million births from the
time of its implementation in 1979 to the year 2010(SOURE CITATION). There is still
controversy within and outside of china for use of this policy. Because of the manner that policy

prescribing will be outlined, followed by a reflective case study in which ethical and legal

Nurse prescribing was first recommended, by the RCN, in 1980 and became part of the

Jane presented with a wound to her lower left leg which, following a holistic assessment (appendix
2), was diagnosed as a venous leg ulcer. The assessment was conducted in accordance with Local
PCT Leg Ulcer Guidelines (appendix 3) as well as RCN Guidelines (RCN 2006) to rule out other
possible aetiology such as arterial ulceration, diabetes or malignancy (Moloney and Grace 2004).
Although traditionally considered uncommon, recent studies suggest that malignant ulcers are
more prevalent than previously thought (Miller et al 2003, Taylor 1998) therefore even though
initial assessment suggests an uncomplicated venous ulcer, if Jane s wound fails to heal following
appropriate treatment then specialist advice will be sought. Between 17% and 65% of people with
a leg ulcer experience severe or continuous pain with a major impact on quality of life (Briggs and
Nelson, 2003) and effective pain relief is important to maximise quality of life, to enable
mobilisation and improve appetite to facilitate wound healing. Fortunately, Jane experienced no
pain from the leg ulcer prior to or at the time of assessment. However, careful review and monitoring
of any pain will be important throughout the treatment process as the first line of treatment for
uncomplicated venous leg ulcers are compression systems (RCN 2006) and although compression

The Free Trade Area Of The Americas
The Free Trade Area of the Americas
Introduction
The Free Trade Area of the Americas agreement (FTAA), was first introduced in 1994 with
intentions of finalizing the deal by 2005. However, the agreement failed to pass due to the
backlash of some of the Latin American countries involved, especially Venezuela and its
President of the time, Hugo Chavez, who held a strong vocal opposition of the free trade
agreement (The Defeat of the FTAA). In this paper I will discuss the history of the FTAA, about
how it started, why it did not happen, and if it will be possible in the future. I will give my
opinion on whether the FTAA will ever come back and if the current free trade deals will help or
hurt a possible resurgence of the FTAA.

Reflection Of A Small Business At A Local Daycare Center...
For this week s discussion in Module One, I reviewed a local daycare center company my
mother works for. The company is a sole proprietorship and is very small. Although, the women
who runs the company takes care of everything, such as the accounting, marketing, and human
resource departments altogether, with some input from within the company, and runs a very
structured company. All the various departments she takes care of do tend towards the same
goals and all the set tasks and responsibilities the company has in place at the time. The owner is
very organized and always stays up to date on everything. She is experienced, but I find that it
must be overwhelming to have all that pressure on your shoulders and that much work to cover.
Even though it is a small company and she does rely on input from the company, it is definitely
challenging. After reading this week s material I do not think my view of the organization
reviewed this week changed, but there is always room for change and some things I may do
differently when I open my own small businessone day when it comes to organizational structure
and culture. Doing more research and understanding the topics this week I have been able to
better identify benefits among certain organizational theories, such as employee satisfaction and
diversity. Before getting into this topic diversity management refers to the various actions
organizations can take to ensure that they are treating all employees (and potential employee)
fairly and that they are not discriminating (Arvinen Muondo Perkins, 2013). For any organization
out there, there is a responsibility when it comes to managing diversity. When I was reading the
material this week this question that Edwards posed stuck with me: how can we know when we
should treat people similarly because of their similarities, and when is it more fair to treat people
differently because of their differences (Arvinen Muondo Perkins, 2013)? This question is one I
have always had and wondered when I open my own business. It is a challenge that plays in
diversity management and one a company has to figure out. Companies do needto challenge
discrimination. If not it causes a lot of people many disadvantages due to race,

Figurative Language In The Weary Blues

9 November 2015 The Weary Blues Langston Hughes The Weary Blues, written by Langston

American poet who often wrote about the struggles for African Americans during the Harlem

relationship between the speaker and performer, in order to make the reader better understand the

The speaker needs to impart his experience to his gathering of people. He utilizes clear dialect to
draw his group of onlookers into his own particular sentiments. He coordinates his own particular
distinct style with that of the performers by yelling O Blues! rehashing expressions and words, and
including melody verses to sing. Hughes uses onomatopoeia in The Weary Blues to imitate the
sounds of blues music. The reader can almost hear the song with such examples as moan, croon,
droning, and thump. The artist is communicating as well, however it s less about what he s
imparting and more about how he does it. He could simply say he has the blues. Rather he conveys
what needs be through non verbal communication, singing, and piano playing. Blues music unites
the speaker and entertainer somehow. The first three lines tells us they share a common feeling to

The Importance Of A Seed Growing Like A Little Me
When I was a young girl, I cherished the moments my family and I had while we were outside
during the summer. Usually going outside consisted of me riding my newly bought, white and
pink bike that I still wobbled on because it was too big for me or climbing the apple tree in the
front yard, but this time, my parents wanted my brother and I to help garden. The dreadful thing of
planting a beautiful flower in the mucky dirt, left my hands and feet soiled in a dark substance. I
never liked gardening and I hated when I saw the neighborhood children enjoying the activity ,
but I always did what my parents told me. Now, as I look back into the life of the young Brittney,
I realize that the only thing that I didn t like about it was the dirt. Did I not understand what
putting the root into the soil meant, or was I just too childish to remark the significance of a seed
growing like a little me? Never did gardening come across me as fun ! Who wanted dirt stuck
under their finger and toenails and who wanted pretty pink clothes ruined with soil? Not me and at
that time, I could guarantee no other girl would want this either! Fun came to me as climbing a tree
on a hot and humid day, not gardening. Riding a bike up and down ramps, singing little tunes, and
even playing house left me happier than the dirty, disgusting job of gardening. Don t get me wrong,
I loved the smell of flowers and I loved the little bugs that flew or crawled around, but something

Differences In A Long Distance Relationship And The Military
Relationships are all about love, happiness, and support. It is also a way of taking the time to
know your significant other in ways that are personal and different than any other type of
relationship that you can have. Being in a military relationship is different than other
relationships, the struggles and not to mention the distance that is faced while being in one.
Waiting for calls, having a time difference and wanting to be held during any bad times can get
frustrating and difficult at times, but just knowing that one day you ll stay and grow old

Should California spent a heavy amount of money on a River Project?
This project is called the San Joaquin River Restoration. They had to rebuild the river so that the

river.I agree with Daniel Weintraub because he s been the public affairs columnist for the

California politics and a public policy for 22 years, also including the last 18 years in
Sacramento. I choose this statement because I think California should invest money in this
project because it can help us in many ways and so that we can have a better economy. The
Sacramento Bee, April 26,2009 is the newspaper where this article was published in. I believe
the SJRP was worth the $400 dollars because of the experts that supported the numerous studies

people emotionally. I strongly agree with this San Joaquin River Project because it can help and

In my opinion the Bureau of Land Management has had a great impact with all the services they

maintaining the care, services, shelter, and feeding of these horses. I understand the need and want
to keep the horses population from dying out being instinct and letting them run freely in the wild

Now with all these know facts, acts, opinions all viewed as good and bad a decision can be made
by looking at what is helping and what is not helping. What was the main goal and purpose of
the program? Has it been met and if so are all the requirements and rules being kept and met to.
Also have to look and what is going to help keep the funding up and enough of it to maintain the

what the public or anyone else thinks. The key factor here is that the BLM is making sure they

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is an enlarged prostate. The prostate goes through two main
growth periods. The first occurs early in puberty and the second begins around the age of 25 and
continues during most of the man s life ( Urology care foundation What is benign prostatic

enlarges it squeezes down on the urethra. The bladder wall becomes thicker and eventually
weakens losing the ability to empty completely. This causes urine to be left in the bladder. The
narrowing of the urethra and urinary retention cause many of the problems associated with BPH. It

Since BPH cannot be cured treatment is focused on reducing symptoms. Deciding how to treat BPH
depends on how bothersome the symptoms are. The American Urological Association symptom
index is an interactive questionnaire that can help to identify how bad the patient s symptoms are

watching them. Treatment of moderate to severe symptoms depends on how bothersome they are

Complications of BPH such as inability to urinate, urinary tract infection, bladder stones, kidney

Essay on Repairing Spinal Cord Injuries
Injuries can happen to anyone, anywhere. Injuries affect people s lives as they limit their choices,
temporarily or permanently. Most injuries are not preventable, because most happen unexpectedly.
For example, spinal cord injuries can occur if a person falls abruptly on his/her back and shatters
their spinal cord. Although injuries cannot be prevented, they can be healed. New technologies are
under development to solve major injuries, which do not yet have a cure. One of these major
injuries is a spinal cord injury.
The human body consists of many important systems. The nervous system is one of these that
ensure survival of a person. The nervous system is split into two main parts. The spinal cord and
the brain make up the Central ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This results in either a loss of sensation, or a loss of perception. According to the Rick Hansen
Spinal Cord Injury Registry, vehicle accidents make up 46% of spinal cord injuries. Acts of
violence (from knife wounds or gun shots) make up 11% of spinal cord injuries. Falls and sports
injuries make up 24%, industrial accidents (damages from chemicals) make up 5%, and other
injuries (such as inflammation of the spinal cord) make up 14% of spinal cord injuries. The
survival rate is reasonably high for those suffering from spinal cord injuries, but life will never be
normal again. Since the connection between the brain and the receptor or effector is damaged,
stimulations may not be interpreted or signals may not reach the effector. This might result in loss
of balance, coordination, loss of sensation, uncontrolled movements, and paralysis.
It is important to note that nerves in the CNS do not regenerate, while nerves in the PNS do
regenerate. This is why when a person gets a cut; it completely heals in several days. But a person
with spinal cord injury cannot completely heal because spinal cord does not contain neurilemma, a
membrane that promotes regeneration of neurons. It was thought that the neurons would not
regenerate once damaged. However, research has found that they do indeed have the ability to
regenerate if scars do not obstruct the regenerative process. Scars are the result of astrocytes and

Hinduism Religion
Considering that Hinduism lacks a uniting belief system, what makes up the Hindu religion is
Sanarana Dharma, which is also known as Hinduism, an alternative label that is preferred today.
Hinduism is the traditional religion of India. Sanatan Dharma is one of the oldest religions known
to mankind and Hinduisms religionis still in practice today. The spiritual expressions of Sanatana
Dharma range from extreme asceticism to the extreme sensuality, from the heights of personal
devotion to a deity to the heights of abstract philosophy (Fisher, M.P., 2005). Hinduismhave been
able to hold itself together for several years; Hinduism is still one of the major religions in the
world, so, the factor that it is more than a way of life,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another belief is that though Hindu mythology mentions a class of evil beings, opposed to the
celestial spirits, essential Hindu philosophy does not believe in any concept of a central Devil or
Satan. This does not mean that all the evil in the world is attributed to God, but that the evil deed is
ascribed to human ignorance (Fisher, M. P., 2005). These actions determine the course of life and
the life cycle for the soul in its subsequent life. Virtuous actions take the soul closer to the Supreme
Divine, and lead to a birth with higher consciousness. Evil actions hinder this recognition of the
Supreme Divine, and the soul takes lower forms of worldly life. All existence, according to
Hinduism, from vegetation to mankind, is subjects to the eternal Dharma, which is the natural law

John Taylor Howling Wolf Analysis
While these artists renditions of the Treaty Signing at Medicine Lodge Creek contain the same
content, John Taylor and Howling Wolf s show very different views. I believe that the difference
in views arose due to the fact that these two men had different cultural backgrounds from one
another. John Taylor was a hired journalist while Howling Wolf was Native American. John Taylor
s sketch has a very natural feel while Howling Wolf s is abstract. John Taylor s illustration is more
natural and realistic than representational because he was focusing on what he saw at the treaty
signing, but his beliefs may have caused him to make the Native Americans look stern and no
nonsense by creating micro facial expressions. While the European Americans

Crime Is The Violation Of Societal Rules Of Behavior Essay
According to Sigel (2012), crime is the violation of societal rules of behaviour as interpreted and
expressed by a criminal legal code, created by people who hold social and political power. Any
violation of these rules by an individual may subject themselves to sanctions by the state authority,
social stigma and the loss of status. Crimemay be broken down into three types, property crimes,
offenses against the person and statutory offenses. A status offenseis an illegal act committed by a
juvenile or juveniles, who are minors. A status offence is an act committed by a juvenile whose
actions are not in line with the law or the area in which it was committed as if an adult committed
it. There are different types of status offences, which can vary, depending on where it is committed.
The most common ones though are truancy, running away, being beyond the control of parents or
guardians, violating curfew, or possession and usage of alcohol or tobacco, Michon (2016). From
these common offenses, it is clear to see that this can be an issue in the Caribbean society. In order
to find better means by which to reduce status offenses in the Caribbean, then by studying the
relevant theories associated with them would help to explain their origins. In the Jamaican society,
more specifically, teenage high schoolstudents, easily stressed, bullied, may have suicidal
tendencies and influenced by their peers which can lead to smoking and drinking alcohol Budd

Epicondylitis Case Study
Tested For:
The Golfer s Elbow Special Test is designed to confirm the diagnosis of medial epicondylitis.1
Test Performance:
To perform this test, the patient should be seated or standing, while making a fist on the involved
side.1 The therapist should use one hand to stabilize along the distal humerus while simultaneously
palpating the medial epicondyle.1 With the other hand, the therapist should then passively supinate
the forearm and extend the elbow and wrist.1 Pain or discomfort along the medial region of the
elbow is positive for medial epicondylitis.1 If the patient does not experience any pain or
discomfort along the medial epicondyle during this test, then they most likely do not have medial
epicondylitis.1

  • 2. Essay On Unanimous Verdict In criminal trials the end verdict must be unanimous. If the jury can t decide on a unanimous verdict, then the case will be rendered as a mistrial or hung jury. Although in some states a verdict of eleven to one or ten to two is accepted. Verdicts like this may only be accepted if the deliberation is longer than a certain amount of time. Although most states require a unanimous verdict, most people disagree. In my opinion every verdict must be unanimous. There are various reasons why verdicts should be unanimous. I believe that the main reason is when jurors give the wrong verdict. In many criminal cases the verdict isn t always the right one. For example, in some cases the accused is said to be innocent and in reality they are guilty.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The other result is that the criminal continues to commit crimes. This is a very big issue if the criminal was accused for murder. If a murderer was set free, they might want to kill other people. In other cases, the accused is said to be guilty, and in reality they are innocent. In this case there could also be two results. If the accused was said to be guilty, they have to serve their time. Depending on how bad the crime was, the accused might go to jail forever. In some parts of the world, the criminal might get the death penalty. Maybe ten years later, someone might go back to the case and prove that the criminal wasn t guilty. If someone disproved the guilty verdict, they might release the criminal. Even if they release the victim, they still had to suffer through years of prison. On the other hand, if the criminal received the death penalty, there is no way of bring said person back to life. In the case of Twelve Angry Men the nineteen year old boy was said to be innocent. Juror number eight says that the boy is innocent and gives a variety of reasons. He states, He s nineteen years old. It is surrounded by Dagestan to the east, Georgia and South Ossetia to the south, Russia to the north and North Ossetia in the west. Chechnya is rich in mineral oil and produced twenty million tons per year before the disintegration of the Soviet Union. The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 created the opportunity for the Russian provinces to declare their independence. The Russian government managed to keep its control of all states apart from Chechnya, which, under the new president Dzhokhar Dudayev, declared independence in October 1991. The Russian Government did not approve this and President Yeltsin... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The news reported from the ravaged cities within Chechnya is more than disturbing, but as disturbing as this is, media bias does need to be accounted for. The eyewitness accounts and the various reports from Human Rights activists are all informative but of a distinct nature, to disgrace the west into doing some thing about the disintegrating situation in the state. Russian forces have committed grave abuses, but the situation is one that needs to be rendered regardless of how it is reported. Human Rights Watch have documented both Russian and Chechen acts of war crimes. The situation is dire in all cases from massacres, rapes and beatings, to completely ignoring the well fair of civilians. The Russians have disregarded completely the Geneva Convention obligations, with central market bombings; civilians deaths in Chechnya weigh heavily in the total death toll of the war. • 11. American s Strategy Against the Spanish After the Civil War, the United States Navy had been completely demobilized. It had commenced the destruction of many warships utilized by the Union and had also stopped the production of new ships. Naval powers in Europe had far surpassed the United States Navy as new and advanced technologies were being put to use. The nation s lack of overseas coaling stations kept the United Statesattached to the use of sail power. This was not efficient in order to protect American interests overseas. The image of the United States was projected through its lack of an effective Navy. The public was so engulfed with other intercontinental issues, such as western expansion, that the Navy was not an important asset. The U.S. finally came to its senses in 1890 s when the first battleships, including the U.S.S. Maine, was commissioned with steam power and a steel hull. As the Navy began to redevelop, tensions between the Spanish and United States also began to develop. In 1873 Spanish authorities in Cuba executed 53 men who had been smuggling guns to Cuban revolutionaries in the steamer Virginius. Many of those executed were American citizens including the Captain of the Virginius Joseph Fry, a Naval Academy graduate. The weak assembly of a Navy to intimidate the Spanish frustrated those who advocated for a stronger Navy. America had sided with Cuba in its effort to fight for independence from Spain. Rath mentions that when we live within our shortcomings/ our weaknesses, we tend to live in this world unhappy and unmotivated (Rath, 2007). In this paper, I will discuss some background and major topics presented in his book. I will describe how his topics can be useful in nursing practice, as well as my own practice. I will end this paper with a look into how his book helped me to grow in my own soon to be leadership role. Background Tom Rath began working with a group of scientists in 1998 to start a conversation about our strengths (Rath, 2007). A 40 year study, led by Donald O. Clifton, helped to create a language of common talents, and in 2001, included this assessment into their bestselling management book Now, Discover Your Strengths (Rath, 2007). During their study, they found out that people who do have the opportunity to focus on their strengths every day are six times as likely to be engaged in their jobs and more than three times as likely to report having an excellent quality of life in general (Rath, 2007, pg. iii). A major problem with this was a majority of people were either unsure of or unable to explain their strengths (Rath, 2007). Since he is this well respected military leader, the people listened and cared about what he had to say. One instance of his high regard can be seen when one of the senators said, Here comes Barbantio and the valiant Moor , (Act I scene 3). With Othello overcoming racist Venice and managing to gain this high status in the community, Aristotle s first requirement for a tragic hero is fulfilled. However, many would argue that in Millers play, Willy Lowman s character stretches the definition of a tragic hero. Since Willy Lowman was a mere salesman struggling to seize the American dream he would definitely not be considered a man of high status. Although Willy Lowman did hold one honorable position and that was head of the household. This is illustrated during a conversation that Willy s wife Linda has with their son Biff. • 27. Summary Of Lysistrata Lysistrata by Aristophanes is seen to be a comical play used to show the impact of war not only on the ones physically in the war, but the ones mentally involved also. This play was written to help express the feeling the author had about the war occurring during the time the work was written. She does this by refusing to have sexual relations with the men in the city until it was agreed that peace would be declared between the two troops. She calls a meeting with the women in the city and include them in her vindictive ideas to bring the war to an end. This play is sure to bring a smile to the readers face due to the comical events that occur. However, comedy is not the only thing that becomes apparent within the play. Throughout the work of Lysistratathere are three themes that become apparent during this play: peace and harmony, control by gender, and politics. Peace and Harmony is the central theme in the play. Lysistrata is out to end the prolonged war. After consideration on how to accomplish her wishes, and idea finally arises. Lysistrata holds a meeting with all the women to become rebellious and refuse to have sexual relations with the men. China And The Implementation Of Pinyin Over Population in China and the implementation of Pinyin In response to massive over population in China, the Chinese over has taken drastic measures to reduce the nation s population. The first step that was implemented was the one child policy also known as; pinyin. Pinyin is the one child limitation on the majority of families that live in the People s Republic of China. It is enacted under the official family planing policy. It limits the number of children marries urban couples to have to one. The exceptions only apply to those who are: ethic minorities, rural families who depend on children for farming and, parents without any siblings themselves. The Chinese government has given an official statement saying that roughly to 35 to 40 percent of the Chinese population falls under the one child rule. The higher ups in the government bureaucracy who mostly live in Macau and some parts of Hong Kong are not affected by this policy as well. The policy was brought up by the government in 1978 but, was officially enacted to first born children in 1979. Like today, China was dealing with many social, economic, and environmental problems. Pinyin was a response to alleviate these problems. Chinese authorities claimed that pinyin has prevented around 250 to 300 million births from the time of its implementation in 1979 to the year 2010(SOURE CITATION). Jane presented with a wound to her lower left leg which, following a holistic assessment (appendix 2), was diagnosed as a venous leg ulcer. The assessment was conducted in accordance with Local PCT Leg Ulcer Guidelines (appendix 3) as well as RCN Guidelines (RCN 2006) to rule out other possible aetiology such as arterial ulceration, diabetes or malignancy (Moloney and Grace 2004). Although traditionally considered uncommon, recent studies suggest that malignant ulcers are more prevalent than previously thought (Miller et al 2003, Taylor 1998) therefore even though initial assessment suggests an uncomplicated venous ulcer, if Jane s wound fails to heal following appropriate treatment then specialist advice will be sought. Between 17% and 65% of people with a leg ulcer experience severe or continuous pain with a major impact on quality of life (Briggs and Nelson, 2003) and effective pain relief is important to maximise quality of life, to enable mobilisation and improve appetite to facilitate wound healing. Fortunately, Jane experienced no pain from the leg ulcer prior to or at the time of assessment. However, careful review and monitoring of any pain will be important throughout the treatment process as the first line of treatment for uncomplicated venous leg ulcers are compression systems (RCN 2006) and although compression counteracts the harmful effects of venous hypertension and ... The Free Trade Area Of The Americas The Free Trade Area of the Americas Introduction The Free Trade Area of the Americas agreement (FTAA), was first introduced in 1994 with intentions of finalizing the deal by 2005. However, the agreement failed to pass due to the backlash of some of the Latin American countries involved, especially Venezuela and its President of the time, Hugo Chavez, who held a strong vocal opposition of the free trade agreement (The Defeat of the FTAA). In this paper I will discuss the history of the FTAA, about how it started, why it did not happen, and if it will be possible in the future. The company is a sole proprietorship and is very small. Although, the women who runs the company takes care of everything, such as the accounting, marketing, and human resource departments altogether, with some input from within the company, and runs a very structured company. Even though it is a small company and she does rely on input from the company, it is definitely challenging. After reading this week s material I do not think my view of the organization reviewed this week changed, but there is always room for change and some things I may do differently when I open my own small businessone day when it comes to organizational structure and culture. Doing more research and understanding the topics this week I have been able to better identify benefits among certain organizational theories, such as employee satisfaction and diversity. Before getting into this topic diversity management refers to the various actions organizations can take to ensure that they are treating all employees (and potential employee) fairly and that they are not discriminating (Arvinen Muondo Perkins, 2013). For any organization out there, there is a responsibility when it comes to managing diversity. When I was reading the material this week this question that Edwards posed stuck with me: how can we know when we should treat people similarly because of their similarities, and when is it more fair to treat people differently because of their differences (Arvinen Muondo Perkins, 2013)? This question is one I have always had and wondered when I open my own business. It is a challenge that plays in diversity management and one a company has to figure out. Any violation of these rules by an individual may subject themselves to sanctions by the state authority, social stigma and the loss of status. Crimemay be broken down into three types, property crimes, offenses against the person and statutory offenses. A status offenseis an illegal act committed by a juvenile or juveniles, who are minors. A status offence is an act committed by a juvenile whose actions are not in line with the law or the area in which it was committed as if an adult committed it. There are different types of status offences, which can vary, depending on where it is committed. The most common ones though are truancy, running away, being beyond the control of parents or guardians, violating curfew, or possession and usage of alcohol or tobacco, Michon (2016). From these common offenses, it is clear to see that this can be an issue in the Caribbean society. • 49. Epicondylitis Case Study Tested For: The Golfer s Elbow Special Test is designed to confirm the diagnosis of medial epicondylitis.1 Test Performance: To perform this test, the patient should be seated or standing, while making a fist on the involved side.1 The therapist should use one hand to stabilize along the distal humerus while simultaneously palpating the medial epicondyle.1 With the other hand, the therapist should then passively supinate the forearm and extend the elbow and wrist.1 Pain or discomfort along the medial region of the elbow is positive for medial epicondylitis.1 If the patient does not experience any pain or discomfort along the medial epicondyle during this test, then they most likely do not have medial epicondylitis.1 Physiological Basis: ... • 50. Electron Acoustic Waves Essay Among the modes which propagate in a plasma, Fried and Gould ( removed HTML ) ( removed HTML ) 1 ( removed HTML ) ( removed HTML ) introduced the novel concept of the electron acoustic (EA) mode during numerical solutions of the linear electrostatic Vlasov dispersion equation in an unmagnetized, homogenous plasma. Electronacoustic waves (EAWs) are high frequency electrostatic waves in comparison with the ion plasma frequency. These waves can exist in two temperature electron plasmas with cold and hot electrons in the presence of a steady background of ions which guarantee the overall neutrality condition.
