Northern Stage hosted a comedy fest in Newcastle on May 13, 2022. The event featured talks from actors, producers, screenwriters, and directors about their experiences in the industry and how they want to change it. The author attended four sessions and learned about the many career paths and jobs in media industries, including how neurodiversity is addressed. They discovered how networking benefits line managers and helps create new ideas. The author is now considering careers as a producer or director based on the interesting discussions. The event provided valuable insights into how the film and TV industry impacts people and raises awareness of issues like ADHD.

Northern Stage hosted a comedy fest in Newcastle, there were many different session to attend
and I was able to attend four of them. There were many different actors, producers, screenwriters
and directors there talking about their experience and how they would like to change the
industry.
The main people I remember are the actors for horrible history and Ghosts the BBC comedy show.
I learnt that there are many different types of jobs in the media industries and there are many
pathways into different jobs. I was also informed heavily on neuro divergency in the industry and
how people can combat it.
I was able to learn about how a line manager job really effects the filming process and how
managers are able to find their talents through their contacts they create from networking.
From the many different talks, I was able to attend, I was able to learn a lot about the film
industry and how people are able to create an idea from another show. I was able to hear from
many different people how have all sorts of experience in the industry and how they really want
to have other people experience it.
From many of the people talking, I was thinking about potential careers I could go into such as
producer, Director, screenwriter and many more as they all seemed really interesting to me and
how they are all important in the industry. I think after the talk I wanted to become a producer or
a director.
I was very happy to be able to attend and experience the talks as they were very informational
about film and tv shows but also how they are able to impact many people lives and bring
awareness to many different things. I remember a question begin asked about how did you think
tv and film will bring awareness to ADHD and other disorders and the man answered that “ We
are begin to bring awareness to many people through tv and it is becoming very realistic which
some people like and some people don’t” This really stuck with me as it show that the industry is
begin to include all sorts of people and not discriminate against them.
