- #10 One of the major benefits of SPLATs mission is that the impact is so large. Our projects to bring new ideas and new perspectives to Idaho’s libraries impact even the smallest libraries around Idaho. Frank Nelson, Library Consultant for the Idaho Commission for Libraries, provides us with an image of the Prairie Free Library. As far as we know, this is the smallest library in Idaho. It’s just one room, and they use a binder for their check out system. I’ve also included an image of Frank using the wireless at the Stanley Community Library. The other libraries in this image include: Juliaetta Public Library, Sugar Salem Public Library, Snake River Library, Nez Perce Community Library, Bovill Community Library, Deary Public Library, Kellogg Community Library, Pierce Free Public Library, and Rathdrum Community Library. SPLAT is a major asset to libraries like the ones featured. Often with just one employee, it’s almost impossible for them to stay on top of the latest technologies. Many people who don’t work in one room- one person libraries claim the same thing, however, that it’s hard to stay on top. Once SPLAT has gone through the vetting process with new technolgies and decided on which few new things to focus on for an upcoming conference, a presentation, or a new project like SPLAT 101, people pay attention. The patrons lives are improved at those libraries because when individuals come to the reference desk with questions about foursquare, the library staff have at least heard about foursquare from SPLAT.
