Editor's Notes
Good morning, today I will unveil future. Future of data storage. But for now, I want to show you the three issues that you probably thought of.
We live in the information age, and it is hard to miss. Over the past 25 years, the number of digital information has increased in 884 times!
And by the end of 2020 will grow 18 times more, reaching the dazzling 35 zettabytes. Roughly equivalent to all human speech ever said and written in the audio file. And all of this information must be stored.
Faster, smaller, capacious. The motto set by the developers of new storage media. At the moment they successfully cope with it. But I have a question for you: Do any of you use floppy disks? And if I give you one with important can you read it? All of this creates a new huge problem - the problem of data media obsolescence. Imagine that you have a very important document, and you want to keep it for 20 years. At first, you write it to a floppy and then copied to a CD, then to flash drive, while checking the integrity, and of course for you had two floppy disks, two CDs and two flash drives, you never know. Not difficult? Bu if you have 20,000 documents or 25 million a year as the Aeroflot? How many resources and effort will be spent on a data migration? And if you think that all stabilized for now, I will upset you.
In the near future we expect a fundamentally new media, and therefore the new storage systems. And you will again have to migrate all your data from one storage system to another. But suppose we were able to solve this problem, everything is ok?
Not quite. Egyptians kept quite a lot of text, but here's the misfortune! It was written in a strange language, and if it were not for the Rosetta Stone, we would still not able to understand it. But why go so far, not so long ago, the word awful originally meant awe-inspiring. File saved in Adobe Pagemaker, will not open correctly in Adobe InDesign. Words change their meaning, languages are dying out, and we cannot open the old files. So is there any use in the information that we cannot understand?
Now imagine that all these problems you need to solve if you want to organize your digital archive. Minimal example - is the presence of special software and the server on which it will work, purchase of specialized storage systems, and configure the entire system, also you need train and recruit new personal. And then multiply the whole infrastructure by the amount data you need to store. Do you need this? Unless the storage of digital data is not your core business. Because the main task – is ability to keep your data and get access to it.
Ark - a digital archive is available as SaaS. You can start using it in minutes without investing in useless and non-core infrastructure millions.
One of our main goals is to create a product for people, not machines, so we focus on the usability. Ark has a clean web interface through which you can fully control the archive, browse objects directly within the archive.
To upload data directly into archive.
And use the archive from any mobile device. Because it's cool and modern.
Ark has its unique niche in the market as SaaS archive. It is not a competitor for the storage systems, it uses the current digital storage systems for the physical preservation of the data, for example Ark quite easily integrated with EMC Centera. While Ark is ECM system not a competitor of the current electronic document and records management systems, working with operational information, it enhances these systems and allows better reveal their potential, because important documents at the end of his lifecycle fall into the archive.
SaaS archiving systems market is growing with us. In the near future our main goal will be the small and medium-sized companies, which understands what implementing archive on their own - it's very heavy task. Over time, we will catch up to the large corporations that are able to change their architecture, and not to spend too much money and effort to unnecessary infrastructure.Along with the growth of the value of information ordinary people will start to use digital archives, and if in 20 years it will be one third of people on the earth, after a few generations, to use electronic archive will also be trivially as use your bank account.Because we believe that information and knowledge is one of the core values and our mission is to enable every person on earth to preserve this value and pass it to their children. But to this glorious future come true, we need to develop our product.
We need 330k USD investments in the first year. About half of this money will go to the further development and improvement of the product, and the other half will be spited between the cost of infrastructure, administrative tasks, marketing and sales.
And one of the main questions is - how to make money? Well, for that there are at least three sources of income.Providing online access to the archive in a SaaS is one of the most obvious ways to make money. Prices can be as flexible as our customer wants. How much space do you need for your records? How quickly you need to able to get the information? Do you need an API? Do you want to give access to your information to third parties? By answering these questions, the customer will be able to understand for what he pays and choose the best option. We do not want to limit ourselves to only pay services, we will also provide free accounts, but in this case, advertisers will pay for our clients. But we would not be the company from the future, if we were limited these options. It will not be long, and as I said, the information will be one the main values by itself. And our system will help people buy and sell such information within the archive. We will retain a small commission from each completed transaction.
In the first year we plan to complete and launch the system. The target will be the 12,000 registered users, 2000 active and about 120 paying accounts.
To implement these great ideas we need a really strong team, and we have it! We are young and infected by idea of creating a better future. But we embark on this path not are alone; we have a huge number of experts to help us.We are happy to collaborate with anyone who thinks as we are and is willing to help us. Are you with us?
