2. What is a life-style magazine?
• A lifestyle magazine is a term for popular magazines.
• It's often used to encompass several men's magazines, women's magazines and magazines
about health and fitness, tourism, leisure, fashion, decorating or culture.
• There are all different types of lifestyle magazines, for example some major magazine
companies you may know are:
• Cosmopolitan
• ELLE
• Vogue
• Glamour
• Womens Health
• Vanity Fair
• GQ

3. Codes and Conventions
• Masthead- the main heading of the magazine what the magazine is called this is typically
used on all different magazines to know what magazine the audience is reading
• Layout- the layout of the magazine is important as it needs to be clear and well put
together, so it is easy to ready and is appealing on the eye
• Main cover images- a close-up, or a shot of a celebrity featured in the magazine is one of
the main reasons of why audiences are drawn to picking a lifestyle magazine
• Straplines/Tag lines- a short piece of text to attract audiences and grab their attention,
which are usually to do with what their magazine has in it
• Coverlines- these give audiences an idea of what is in the magazine
• Colour's- this can be a huge part as if you have colours that work with each other well and
appealing on the eye more people are willing to pick up the magazine
• Price- must be on for marketing purposes and usually is a small text in the corner
somewhere on the front cover

4. Cosmopolitan

Layout- Each of the magazines have both got the same sort of
layout, with the main centre image and taglines and strap lines
around the shot. The are both well layed out and easily
readable, making them appealing to the eye.
Main images- Both images are a full body shot and are both big
celebrities. On the left is a social media star and youtuber Emma
Chamberline with over 9 million followers reaching a huge
audience for cosmopolitan, and on the right is actress Zendaya
best known for her huge films. This makes it appealing as fans of
the celebrities will want to read and find out info about them
both.
Mastheads- Both front cover as well as all other magazines by
cosmopolitan have the same mastheads in the same fonts and
size but just in different colours, by doing this will allow them to
be more recognizable and known
Coverlines- Surrounding both of the main images have
coverlines to give them a few hints of what is in the magazine to
draw them in
Colour's- each magazine have used playful and young colours
which show they have targeted 18-34 years old
Price- On the right hand bottom of the right magazine with
Zendaya has a barcode which is done for marketing, and is in the
corner to make more room for text and image

5. Glamour Magazine
Layout- The magazines both are laid out in the same way,
both with the main title at the top and the cover lines
surrounding the main image in the centre of the magazine
Main images- Both images are positioned in the centre of
the magazine and are both a close-up shot, they are both
world known celebrities making them recognizable for
audiences who know them. On the left magazine the
celebrity featured is actress Kate Winslet best known for
her famous role in Titani followed by Leo Nardo Decaprio,
and on the left-side the celebrity featured on the cover is
youngest billionaire Kylie Jenner best known for being on
the reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians and her
billionaire brand Kylie Cosmetics
Mastheads- Each magazine have the same title just in
different colours, and use the same font types so it is
recognizable and makes people associate this font with the
brand
Coverlines- Surrounding the main cover images are all the
cover lines which will give customers a peak into what they
will get into the magazine
Colour's- the colours used in both covers are light pinks
and purples making them attract a young target audience

6. Vogue Codes and Conventions
Layout- Both magazines have the same layout , the
masthead is at the top , and the cover lines are
surrounding the main image , so it's clear and
appealing to read
Main images- both images feature celebrities, the left
magazine is off super model Kate Moss, and the right
is off super model Gigi Hadid , using famous
celebrities is called celebrity endorsement bringing in
a wide audience
Masthead- Both mastheads use the same font and are
placed on the top of the magazine cover, they are both
different colours, using the same font can create
recognition by audiences
Coverlines- they surround the main image; each cover
line gives a little bit of information about what's in the
magazine
Colour's- the colour's they used or each cover are
mature and sophisticated colours which show they
target to a more mature audience
