In Outside-In (London school, top-down or "mockist TDD") you build the system from the "outside-in", following the user interaction through all the parts of the system. The new project has come, and you need to reuse several libraries from the old one? Or maybe you have added a new microservice and need to reuse a couple of packages from other microservices?
In this report, I'm reviewing methods for reusing code between applications that we have experienced on our projects for several years. I show how to avoid copying the packages, while not spending additional resources on the publication of individual packages.
The talk is about practical usage of git submodules, composer public, private, VCS and "path" repositories, and git subtree splitter; benefits, and cons of each method, and how we used them in practice for multiple projects.

In this talk, i discuss some very simple pointers that will make a code review extra useful, illustrated with practical examples. “Useful for what”, you might ask, well, we’ll also discuss that.

Due to the increased amount of communication in cars, a reliable and easy to use middleware system for automotive applications becomes a popular research field. In this paper, we review a recent approach: the Scalable Service-Oriented Middleware over IP (SOME/IP). We present current tech- nologies and how SOME/IP differs from them. We point out how SOME/IP is ordered into the ISO/OSI layer model and discuss its service orientation. We also present the ad- vantages and disadvantages of SOME/IP. In the end, we analyze its timing behavior and whether it is suitable for automotive software or not.

Enabling exploratory data science with Spark and R
R is a favorite language of many data scientists. In addition to a language and runtime, R is a rich ecosystem of libraries for a wide range of use cases from statistical inference to data visualization. However, handling large datasets with R is challenging, especially when data scientists use R with frameworks or tools written in other languages. In this mode most of the friction is at the interface of R and the other systems. For example, when data is sampled by a big data platform, results need to be transferred to and imported in R as native data structures. In this talk we show how SparkR solves these problems to enable a much smoother experience. In this talk we will present an overview of the SparkR architecture, including how data and control is transferred between R and JVM. This knowledge will help data scientists make better decisions when using SparkR. We will demo and explain some of the existing and supported use cases with real large datasets inside a notebook environment. The demonstration will emphasize how Spark clusters, R and interactive notebook environments, such as Jupyter or Databricks, facilitate exploratory analysis of large data.

HDFS Internals
HDFS stores files as blocks that are by default 64 MB in size to minimize disk seek times. The namenode manages the file system namespace and metadata, tracking which datanodes store each block. When writing a file, HDFS breaks it into blocks and replicates each block across multiple datanodes. The secondary namenode periodically merges namespace and edit log changes to prevent the log from growing too large. Small files are inefficient in HDFS due to each file requiring namespace metadata regardless of size.

Python Linters at Scale.pdf
Black, Flake8, isort, and Mypy are useful Python linters but it’s challenging to use them effectively at scale in the case of multiple codebases, in a large codebase, or with many developers. Manually managing consistent linter versions and configurations across codebases requires endless effort. Linter analysis on large codebases is slow. Linters may slow down developers by asking them to fix trivial issues. Running linters in distributed CI jobs makes it hard to understand the overall developer experience.
To handle these scale challenges, we developed a reusable linter framework that releases new linter updates automatically, reuses consistent configurations, runs linters on only updated code to speedup runtime, collects logs and metrics to provide observability, and builds auto fixes for common linter issues. Our linter runs are fast and scalable. Every week, they run 10k times on multiple millions of lines of code in over 25 codebases, generating 25k suggestions for more than 200 developers. Its autofixes also save 20 hours of developer time every week.
In this talk, we’ll walk you through popular Python linters and configuration recommendations, and we will discuss common issues and solutions when scaling them out. Using linters more effectively will make it much easier for you to apply best practices and more quickly write better code.
