 The Coastal Region , better known as Coast Region , is one of the four natural regions
of the Republic of Ecuador . It consists of the provinces of Guayas, Santa Elena ,
Manabi, El Oro , Los Rios , Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas and Esmeraldas.
 ECOSYSTEMS: Forests, swamps, picturesque fishing villages and beautiful beaches are
part of more than 2000 that covers the coastal strip of Ecuador.
 WEATHER: a region characterized by a warm, dry and wet tropical coast climate. The
weather changes between 25 degrees Celsius to 30 degrees Celsius.
 POPULATION: More than half of Ecuador's population is coastal, 8.5 million people live
in the Pacific Ocean coastal region.
CANOA
 Located on the north of Bahia of Caraquez, in the province of Manabi.
 Canoa is a small fishing village, which has all the necessary services to satisfy the
tourist, the same that allow you to enjoy this beautiful region of the Ecuadorian coast.
 Canoa Beach is ideal for those who love nature, here you can enjoy ecotourism that is
available in the area of Canoa. You can also practice paragliding and hang gliders.
 On the beach you can find restaurants, places to practice recreational sports, craft
markets, bars and places for fun.
 Canoa is a paradise for seeking adventure, sand, sports, surf and fun.
RIO MUCHACHO
 This site located in Rio Muchacho, on Canoa parish, at 14 kilometers from San Vicente
and 6 Km. from Canoa.
 Rio Muchacho is an organic production farm, where all the waste from plants, animals
and people are transformed into compost, humus and bioles to return to earth.
 Where you can enjoy agrotourism or rural tourism, doing different activities.
MACHALILLA NACIONAL PARK
 It is located on the southwest part of the province of Manabi, in the cantons of Jipijapa,
Puerto Lopez and Montecristi.
 Extension: Is one of the most extensive protected areas of the ecuadorian coast and
comprises two areas: one terrestrial (56.184 hectares) and a marina (14.430 mn)
 Climate: hot and Dry
SALANGO MUSEUM
 It is at 5 km. on the South of Puerto Lopez in the town of Salango.
 Archeological pieces: The collection consists of 245 pieces of pre-Columbian pottery
dating from the year 5000 until 1500 D.C.
 The Archaeological Museum is divided into 6 cultural collections: Valdivia, Chorrera,
Manteña, Bahia, Guangala and Machalilla.
PUERTO LOPEZ
 Puerto Lopez is located in the south eastern part of the province of
Manabi.
 Puerto Lopez is considered by its Fishing Port, the tourism and it´s
agricultural center. It has the privilege of having the Machalilla National
Park, Cradle of cultures as Machalilla, Chorrera, Guangala and Bahia.
PLATA ISLAND
 Isla de la Plata is located at 50 km off the coast of Puerto Lopez, in Manabi, Ecuador.
 Plata Island is an ideal place for ecotourism, It has an extension of 1200 hectares.
 Its main feature is the diversity of birds that inhabit the place.
 In the surrounding area of the island you can visit the Punta Machete and the track,
where you can watch birds, typical flora of the area with beautiful cliffs and
sometimes sea lions, sharks and huge stingrays.
ALFARO CITY
 Alfaro City is located on a hill known as “Centinela” it stands on a strategic point
from which to can observe Montecristi, the birthplace of the "Old Warrior“ Eloy
Alfaro; and also you can see Manta and Jaramijó cantons.
 The architectural complex is made up of three main buildings: Mausoleum of the
General Eloy Alfaro Delgado, the Multipurpose Building and the building Luis
Vargas Torres.
MONTECRISTI
 Montecristi is a canton in the province of Manabi in Ecuador, is located on the south eastern part of the
Manabi province.
 The Montecristi hill has 443 meters. Close to Montecristi is located La Isla de la Plata at 23 km west of the
southern coast of Manabi, and also belongs to Montecristi the Virgen of Monserrat chursh and the Monastery
of Christ Crucified, which was built 17 years ago and is home to the cloistered nuns.
 Beaches. Montecristi has beautiful beaches such as Playa de San José, with its beautiful mangrove
AGUA BLANCA COMMUNITY
 It is located in the Machalilla National Park,at 12 km on the north of Puerto Lopez
in the province of Manabi.
 Agua Blanca is the first ecotourism community in the Ecuadorian coast, It is of
great importance due to potential prehistoric archaeological ruins belonging to
the Manta culture, the last of Ecuadorian prehistoric cultures.
Valdivia Aquarium
 This aquarium is located in the Commune of Valdivia, and is one the most important places in the
Province of Santa Elena
 The aquarium is a species rescue center industry, where the people is engaged in the animal care and
subsequent reintegration into the atmosphere when they are considered ready to live by their own. On
the site you can find guided tours and exhibitions with educational purposes for the knowledge of the
species.
MACHALA
 Machala is an Ecuadorian city, capital of the province of El Oro. It is the fifth most populous and
economically important city of the country and the second sea port after Guayaquil.
 It is recognized internationally as "Banana Capital of the World".
ZARUMA
 The city of Zaruma is located in the south-eastern part of El Oro Province.
 Zaruma is one of the oldest cities of Ecuador, because of it´s colonial architecture
it is declared "Cultural Patrimony of Ecuador“, and it´s importance raises from the
mining.
 ZARA means corn and UMA means head.
MONTAÑITA
In Montañita you can find anywhere party places, bars and clubs with the own
Montañita style in the village streets.

In Montañita there is a river that is also at 12 minutes from Olon.

SANCTUARY OF OLON
• Olon is a small fishmen village of about 2,000 people, mostly known for its beautiful
scenery
• the story says that The Virgin cried blood in this place in front of the faithful people of
the place in 1990, the Sanctuary Rosa Mística, is on a cliff of100 meters high from
where you can watch Olón and Montañita.

to have migrated from the southern coast of Peru.

SANTAY ISLAND
To get to the island santay you have to rent bicycles, it takes fifteen minutes to get there
since the port. It is a community where lives around 200 families. On the path you can see
from 6 to 12 crocodiles, as well as birds, boa snakes, iguanas, bats and also, raccoons and
anteaters.
FRAILES BEACH
 It is located on the south of the town of Machalilla and at 12 km.
On the North of Puerto Lopez.
 Around this beach you can find pelicans, vultures, white heron,
gulls, snails, crabs, among others.

 During the season from July to September you can see humpback
