CMAT or Common Management Admission Test is a new computer-based entrance exam for MBA programs conducted by AICTE twice a year to ease the burden on students of taking multiple exams like CAT, MAT, XAT and GMAT. The first CMAT exam was held in February 2013. It has four sections with 100 multiple choice questions and is intended as a common exam for all AICTE-approved programs except IIMs. Students must register online, choose a payment option, and can take the exam twice with only their better score being considered for admission.

1. CMAT or Common Management Admission Test is the newest entry to the existing list of the entrance
tests for the B-schools. It is conducted by AICTE. AICTE announced the launch of this test in 2011. The
first exam for the session 2013-2014 was held from 20th to 28th February this year.
The main purpose of introducing this exam by AICTE was to ease the burden of the students. As of now
students who aspire to pursue MBA or PGDM courses have to sit for various entrance tests like CAT,
MAT, XAT, GMAT etc. It becomes difficult for the students to prepare for more than one exam at a time.
The cost of these tests is pretty high also. So to tackle this problem AICTE has come with this solution
called CMAT. CMAT will be a common test for all the AICTE accredited B-schools except IIMs.
Now let’s have a look at the few points about CMAT:-
CMAT is a computer-based test and will be conducted twice a year. Each student can take the
exam twice and the better score of the two will be counted for the admission.
To appear for the exam the students have to register first. The registration process involves a
few steps. First you have to log in to their website i.e. http://www.aicte-cmat.in/. After logging
in follow the instructions given there. As you will complete the registration process it will
generate a unique password for you. You must remember the password as you will need it later
to log in to the site. After this you have to choose the payment mode and make the payment.
Only after making the payment you can fill up the rest of the form.
The fee for the test is Rs 1200/- for general and OBC candidates and Rs 600/- for SC/ST/PD
candidates.
Those who have passed their Bachelor’s Degree or are in their final year can apply for the exam.
There are four sections in the exam. They are (a) Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation
b) Logical Reasoning c) Language Comprehension and d) General Awareness. There will be total
100 questions of 4 marks each.
The duration of the exam will be of three hours.
The next CMAT exam for the 2013-2014 session will be conducted in February’13. The
registration process for the exam has already started from 1st November 2012 and will continue
till 2nd Jan 2013. The test will be conducted in more than 60 cities across the country.
