More than 1 in 3 divorced children have not seen their fathers in the last year. These fatherless children are at serious risk for a host of maladies: physical, social, emotional, relational, and spiritual. While re-union with dad is the best solution, when that isn't possible in the near term, whatever the reason, there is a way to prevent those serious maladies from damaging these kids: a mentor. The research is clear- one hour a week with a caring mentor for a year can change the life of a fatherless child forever. This presentation highlights both the risks of fatherlessness and the benefits of a mentoring program along with the strategy for launching a program that is focused on developing leaders rather than "saving" fatherless kids.

CLIQUE is a grid-based clustering algorithm that identifies dense units in subspaces of high-dimensional data to provide efficient clustering. It works by first partitioning each attribute dimension into equal intervals and then the data space into rectangular grid cells. It finds dense units in subspaces like planes and intersections them to identify dense units in higher dimensions. These dense units are grouped into clusters. CLIQUE scales linearly with size of data and number of dimensions and automatically identifies relevant subspaces for clustering. However, the clustering accuracy may be reduced for simplicity.

Exact coloring of real-life graphs is easy
Graph coloring has many applications, including in VLSI CAD. Since graph coloring is NP-complete, heuristics are used to approximate the optimum solution. But heuristic solutions can be arbitrary larger than the minimum coloring. We demonstrate how a greedy coloring, together with a heuristics max-clique algorithm, can be combined to generate a new pruning technique, the q-color pruning algorithm. We show that since real-life graphs appear to be 1-perfect, one can solve graph coloring exactly for a small overhead.
