8. PASSIVE STRATEGIES
The thermal massing wall absorbs heat during the day and releases away from the house and
its occupants. The basic concept of thermal mass is to have the heat from the sun seek out a
cool dense material such a stone or concrete and absorb it during the day. Then at night the
stored heat transfers to the cool air in the room.
