Romania is committed to preventing climate change and reducing carbon emissions. Air pollution is a major concern in Romania, with many premature deaths associated with particulate matter, ozone and nitrogen oxides due to exceeding EU air quality standards. More than 28% of Romania's rivers fall below EU water quality limits, with major pollution caused by untreated wastewater from cities including Bucharest, which is the only European capital without a sewage treatment plant. There are over 1,000 contaminated sites across Romania where extensive pollution has been proven or is potentially present.

2. ROMANIA: CLIMATE CHANGE
 Romania is committed to preventing and combating
climate change and pursuing the reduction of carbon
emissions.

3. AIR POLLUTION
 Every day, each of us breathes between 15,000 and
20,000 liters of air - enough to fill the volume of three
hot air balloons a year. A man can survive for more than
30 days without food, about two or three days without
water, but without air he can not live longer than a few
minutes.
 The air we breathe is a gas mixture composed mainly of
nitrogen (78%) and oxygen (20%), but also traces of
carbon dioxide, argon, hydrogen, methane, helium and
others.

4. AIR POLLUTION IN ROMANIA
 Air quality in Romania continues to be a cause of
concern. The European Environment Agency estimated
that in 2013 many premature deaths were associated with
concentrations of suspended particulate matter, ozone
and nitrogen oxides. This is also due to overshooting of
EU air quality standards.
 We are all responsible for the pollution produced and
only together we can help reduce harmful emissions and
improve the air quality that our lungs absorb.

5. WATER POLLUTION IN OUR COUNTRY
 More than 28% of our rivers in the country fall into the
lower water quality categories below the EU-wide limits.
The main pollution factor remains the problem of water
treatment plants in major cities.
 A great problem of surface waters in Romania remains
that of sanitation, large areas of the water in lakes being
covered with pet and other packaging waste.

6.  Approximatively 40 cities in our country, including
Bucharest, discharge wastewater directly into rivers
without pre-treatment, and contribute massively to the
pollution of surface waters.
 Bucharest is currently the only European capital that
does not have a sewage treatment plant. Due to the lack
of a sewage treatment plant, the capital is one of the
major sources of contamination of the Danube.

7. POISONED ROMANIA
 There are 210 contaminated sites in Romania,
where pollution is proven by extensive
environmental analyzes. There is information
about other 1,183 potentially contaminated areas,
but without approved analyzes.
 In our country, unfortunately, garbage is often found
in public areas and in nature because people throw it
at random.

8. POLLUTION IN PLOIESTI
 Also, the industry is a cause of pollution and for the soil
and water of Ploiesti a large part of the city surface is
contaminated with chemicals from the mining industry:
the Prahova river and the downstream of the Petrobrazi
refinery are the "degraded" sites that cause the
wastewater discharge from the Brazi industrial platform;
groundwater is particularly polluted with petroleum
products in the southern part of the city. The polluted
lands in southern Ploiesti affect the underground and the
surface water resources in this area, constituting a risk
factor for the population's health.

10. CONCLUSION
 Thus, the environment must be protected by us every day
by all possible means, because from day to day
everything can become worse, but also from day to day
everything can change and this "everything" depends just
on us.
