Client Guide
In this evaluation, I will detail everything I have had to do within Unit 45. From the pre-
production and research, to recording the actual advert and using Adobe Audition to edit
my advert and make it as good as possible.
At the start of the unit, we had to review, listen and analyse various adverts form the radio.
I picked 3 adverts which have a different genre, I picked a food related advert (Nandos), a
car advertisement (Volkswagen) and a public campaign against smoking (Anti-smoking). I
then had to analyse them for the tone of the advert, the audience which was targeted in the
advert, what the purpose of the advert is for and the impact the advert had on the listeners.
This was to give us ideas for our radio advertisement and features to put in.
After we did our research, we performed a client brief for our
chosen client. Our client was Island Records and we have chosen our
product. Our product was the world famous band Bon Jovi as we
wanted to promote their upcoming tour. So we did some more
research into the company and the client and we have decided to
promote their new album as well as the tour.
After we have gathered all of our information on
Island Records and the product we were deciding to
advertise, we produced a treatment to give
information to the client on how we were going to sell
the product and why we were doing certain things.
We decided to only use songs from the new album in
the advert as we want the listeners to have a taste of
what’s to come on this tour. We have also give room
for the songs to be played aloud so the audience can
listen to a preview of the track, just in case they have
not heard the new album.
After we completed all of the paperwork for the company and the product, we decided to
start on the pre-production stage of the advert. In this process, we decided to plan what to
include, get all the song files from the company and create a script for the advert. We
planned the script to be about 20 seconds long in the raw cut, but after editing we hoped
the advert would be at least 40 seconds long. We also did some work on financial
considerations which covers the costs of the studios and the equipment used.
After we finished our pre-production
work, we finally went into the studio and
recorded our advert, we only took one
take and it only took 2 minutes. We then
exported the advert onto an SD Card and
uploaded it onto a mac. We then opened
up Adobe Audition and began to edit. We
split the vocals up into their appropriate
sections by cutting the clip. We then
downloaded and exported the tracks on to
the software and began placing them
where they should go and cutting the
tracks until we had our final product.
After we have completed all of our work, we had to go and interview Nick. Nick is a media
technician at this college and he’ll give us the run through on all the equipment we used and
the overall cost of everything. We have the link to the interview here as it details everything
that we used as well as includes the facilities of the college and the cost of everything.
