Cleopatra was born in 69 BC in Alexandria, Egypt. She became the lover of Julius Caesar in an attempt to gain his favor after rolling herself into a carpet and presenting herself to him. She later became the lover of Mark Antony and spent a winter with him in Alexandria in 41-40 BC. In 30 BC, after multiple failed attempts to keep power, Cleopatra committed suicide by allowing an asp to bite her when she heard a false report that Mark Antony had died. Her children were taken to Rome after her death.

Cleopatra afraid of being humiliated decided to take her life. So she had an asp, which was an Egyptian cobra, brought to her hidden in a basket of figs. She arranged a big delicious meal and asked for figs. When the guards entered to see Cleopatra she was already dead. Cleopatra was a strong-willed Macedonian queen who was brilliant and dreamed of a greater world empire. She had a charismatic personality, was a born leader and an ambitious monarch. In the popular imagination Cleopatra is famous for being a temptress and an alluring beauty. However this is a myth. The real Cleopatra was, according the ancient writers, merely average looking, and according to an anthropologist who specializes in facial reconstruction, she had high cheekbones, a large nose and was "plump".
