A study from the Cleveland Clinic found that 36% of cardiac surgery patients experienced clogged chest tubes. Patients with clogged chest tubes tended to have longer hospital stays and higher rates of complications like renal failure and stroke. However, 86% of clogs occurred internally and went unnoticed by clinicians. Using active clearance technology which clears chest tubes 3 times better than traditional systems may help reduce clogging and associated complications after cardiac surgery.
