Warner Bros Logos History
In September of 1925, Warner Bros. retrofitted an old studio in Brooklyn, New York to produce
sound film using the Western Electric Technology. To showcase the new technology Warner Bros.
signed licensing agreements, and a number of popular entertainers. Warner Bros. made an
ingenious move by signing these contracts before they even had use for the talent involved, which
allowed the company to avoid paying inflated rates routinely demanded by talent once sound
became the norm. Since Warner Bros. had a lack of movie stars and its operation was small, sound
allowed for them to become a major studio. Warner Bros. pushed ahead with the sound on disc
technology, but the majority of the industry agreed that sound directly recorded to filmwas... Show

We could not have the films we do today, or at any point without advancing and improving the
technology in the industry. It all started with photography and then came the Kinetoscope, then the
Vitascope, then improvements onto the camera, 30mm cameras, 70mm, and Vitaphones. All
these advances happened within a 30 year period which is quite remarkable. These advances in
technology impacted the history of film forever. Without the innovation to put sound in film,
filmmakers would have been limited to what the can do with their characters. After so long it
would have got sick of seeing very identical silent films over and over again. This also allowed
for music to become a big part in film. Music helps the audiences understand what kind of emotion
they should feel during a film, and during a silent film you cannot achieve that next level of
emotion. Also by putting sound into film this allowed the audience to hear a character speak.
Being able to hear a character talk lets the audience get more invested into the character. The
character on screen being silent would draw a line that the audiences always knew they were in a
movie, but now with the advanced technology hearing the character speak and interact with others
get people more immersed. The technological innovations have been further improved on today
with the use of CGI, digital cameras, and many

Language in Dante’s Inferno Essay
Language in Dante s Inferno
What happens to language in hell? In Dante s Inferno, the journeying pilgrim explores language s
variations and nuances as he attempts to communicate with hell s pitiable and sordid inhabitants,
despite multiple language barriers and relentless cacophonies. Dante thematically unifies language s
inconsistencies in hell; that is, he associates the pilgrim s abortive attempts to communicate with
particular shades, and the incomprehensible languages and sounds that beleaguer him, with a
symbol from Christian mythology: the Tower of Babel. Dante juxtaposes this Christian myth with
Virgil s symbolic association with elevated speech in the Inferno. Virgil functions as the pilgrim s
guide and poetic inspiration, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, similar to his inhabitancy of Limbo, the first circle of hell, among those who are not
completely submerged in hell squalor, Likewise, the pilgrim s relationship to the languages of hell
s denizens represents the limits of language in hell, which Dante allegorizes in the Tower of Babel
myth. The myth shows that Nimrod, an architect, leads a massive effort to erect a colossal tower
that, according to Augustine, was intended not merely to touch heaven, but was a conspiracy to
usurp heaven (Dronke 39). Due to the excessive pride of Nimrod and his followers, God punishes
humans by destroying the tower. He then creates a number of languages that are not mutually
understood, which replace the single, universally understood language that exists before the tower
falls. Ultimately, Dante presents the multiplicity of languages, symbolized by the Tower of Babel
mythology, as having a dual legacy in hell: the various languages symbolize either power, when one
has control over languages, or alienation, when one cannot understand someone else s speech.
The pilgrim s encounter with Nimrod underscores language s ultimate detachment from successful
communication in hell because the architect is an enigmatic figure whose language epitomizes
incomprehensibility. Nimrod appears as a giant in the Inferno

Robert Frost s Desert Places
Robert Frost s Desert Places
One of the most monumental poetic works of T.S Eliot is The Waste Land . The poem emerges as
a gigantic metaphor for melancholy, loneliness, solitude the unavoidable companions of human
existence. Similar kinds of feelings are evoked by Robert Frost in Desert Places .
The very title is suggestive of a mood of emptiness. Throughout our life we cross various deserts to
find our destiny. The beauty of the poem lies in the conjunction the meetingpoint desert outside in
the nature with the desert inside. This becomes the focal point of the poem. The dreary opening is
indicated by the falling snow and the advancing night. The poet observes the scenario as the snow
blankets the earth and the darkness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now the poet finally gives to the whole scene. The tiny man feels shrouded by the layers of snow.
The lonesome man crystallizes his loneliness in this snowy covering.
Such is the impact of the natural cohesiveness that the poet, as he observes the natural panorama,
regards himself as an intruder in this unit. The poet relishes the pleasure that the animals are
having as they crouch in their lairs, becoming a part of the nature. The animals manage to develop
a correlation with the nature because they don t complain due to a feeling of unconsciousness
while the poet does complain, he does give vent to his feeling as his perceptive mind ponders over
the cold hard realities.
Realities that whether he matters in this whole setup? The strain in the emotional chords of the
poet endow a strange minor tone to the whole poem as he realizes that his benumbed mind has
failed to draw a relation and so he grooves back into his own self.
The whole of the second stanza is brimming with the realization of being deprived.
It becomes his callousness and stubbornness to enter the realm of nature and endowed to him by
the sense of being lonely and deprived. The recognition of this sense of loneliness and
dispossession results in his mind being at a loss to emotional response. In this mind set he gives
way to the benumbing mood all around. The whole nature is showing a moodic deceleration
because of the snow and the night. In direct contrast to its nature, this

Normative Influence
First, let me offer my sincere condolences on the death of Rehteah Parsons, and commend you for
seeking out evidence based methods to reduce bullying. The heinous nature of the crimes against
Rehteah and the humiliation she experienced after them only increase the gravity of the situation at
hand.
Bullying and sexual assault are unfortunately all too common amongst students at this age. The
desire to fit in with one s peers often leads to these behaviors being imitated and repeated instead of
challenged, a concept referred to in the psychological literature as normative influence. Research
has also shown that when others are labeled in a way that others them, the frequency and severity of
harmful acts against them increases. This is referred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While a small percentage of them may be true sociopaths, it is often situational influences like
those listed above which license these behaviors. It is therefore crucial to create an environment
in which students are educated about the impact and seriousness of bullying and sexual assault.
However, this is only one part of the equation of equal importance is an environment where self
control is given its best chance at success. Research has shown low self control to be closely
associated with one s willingness to engage in antisocial and impulsive behaviors. Furthermore, we
know that glucose is required by the brain to carry out its functions, including inhibiting one s own
actions. At least one study has shown that participants who are given a glucose rich shake before
playing a purposefully frustrating game are significantly better at regulating their emotions than
participants who were given a placebo. Another study showed that people who ate breakfast
reported more positive moods overall compared to people who skipped it. These studies are
representative of the body of literature as a whole, and given this, I would highly recommend you
consider implementing a program that ensures students are receiving adequate levels of glucose
from day to day. I predict that not only would this reduce the amount of harmful and antisocial
behaviors students might exhibit towards each other and authority figures, but as an added benefit,
overall academic performance would

allowing for them to conquer feats unlike any other companies. Although this strategy has faced
both its ups and downs, meaning it has undergone a multitude of changes throughout the years.
Capital One s marketing strategy has created both successes and failures, but with it s growing

Richard Fairbank and Nigel Morris, both diligent entrepreneurs, started laying the bricks for their
eventual successful company, Capital One, in the late 1980 s. They both worked in the Virginia
based Signet Bank . Fairbank started noticing trends in the financial industry that he felt Signet
was missing out on. These opportunities were in the credit card industry. He, as well as all of
Signet Bank knew that the credit card industry was very risky, but Fairbank was ready to take a
chance in this, what can be, highly profitable field.
Signet Bank almost had to cut the credit card venture do to losses in profit from some real estate
problems during the first couple years of the credit card launch, but being the idea champions they

Examples Of Ethos In The Declaration Of Independence
Classical rhetoric considers that a speaker or writer has three appeals at his or her disposal: to
ethos (the standing of the writer or speaker), to pathos (emotion), and to logos (reason), divided into
deductive reasoning and inductive reasoning. (The Declaration) Jefferson s drafting of the
Declaration of Independence is based on three types of argument ethos, pathos, logos which are
modes of persuasion. They are also referred to as the three artistic proofs (Aristotlecoined the
terms), and are all represented by Greek words. (Holliday)
The principle of ethos is to prove to the audience/reader that the writer is a reasonable person and
is therefore credible. The writers of the Declaration of Independence establish their ethical
standing, that they are men of good sense, good character, and good will; first, by acknowledging
that they need to explain to the world the reasons for their actions. (The Declaration) Jefferson does
this very skillfully in the first line of the Declaration when he announces to the world that the
Declaration is written out of respect for those who must judge the rightness or wrongness of the
colonies decision to break with Great Britain: ...decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires
that they should declare the causes which impel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dear Silent Partners Of Chocoholics Anonymous
Dear silent partners of Chocoholics Anonymous,
The purpose of this memo is to discuss the opposing views of shareholders and stakeholders,
evaluating our decision based on multiple ethical principles, focusing on Chocoholics Anonymous
profitability and ethical integrity.
Chocoholics Anonymous has a decline of sales and decrease of profits during the economic
downturn, and so do the other companies in town; and those companies fired employees to save
money which caused a rapidly growing unemployment rate. In order to control the increasing of
unemployment rate, the local economic development group cautioned local firms, in attempts to
lower layoffs, and the internal managers of Chocoholics Anonymous now has a conflict about the
decision to keep or fire a full time manager. By discussing and analyzing the different views of
shareholders (silent partners) and stakeholders (employees), in addition to acknowledging
government recommendations, it will be clear for Chocoholics Anonymous to make an applicable
and ethical decision.
When encountering the decision of Chocoholics Anonymous, silent partners voiced their greatest
concern, which was to guarantee and maximize profits; however, based on current corporate
culture, making decisions using the shareholder s view will be harmful to the company. The silent
partners, who are the shareholders in the company, believe they are most socially responsible when
maximizing profits, for this shares the maximum wealth from their company.

In The Film Farewell My ConcubineAndThe King And The Clown
Drawing on the two films Farewell my Concubine and The King and the Clown will further
explore how homosexuality is represented among China and South Korea. The film, Farewell my
Concubine was one of the first and most significant discussions towards homosexuality being
depicted on screen. It was released in the year 1993, covering the period of the Chinese social
upheavals between the 1920s through to the 1970s in the setting of the Beijing Opera. The film
raises the attitude of homosexualityin the most painful period of the traditional Chinese history, for
the Chinese and Western viewers (Lau 1995, 22). According to Lau, this film was an opportunity to
stimulate the inherent of the Beijing Opera in relation to the homosexual practices that were
tolerated during the era (Lau 1995, 22). Zheng further suggested that the film was also a chance to
understand the homophobic anxiety of the historical and political brutality in Chinese history
(Zhang 1999, 101). The film attempts to illustrate that the Chinese cultural connections and
homosexuality cannot coexist. The main protagonist, Cheng Dieyi, sense of identity is heavily
reinforced by the power structure within the environment through harsh symbolic rapes. Lau
suggested that the symbolic rapes, such as the loss of finger and getting a pipe forced into the
mouth are indications of homosexuality (Lau 1995, 23). According to Zheng, the scene when Dieyi
gets raped by the eunuch has exhibited Dieyi s disruption towards the

The Seven Stages Of The Generalist Model Of Social Work
The Generalist Model is having a broad range of knowledge on professional values and ethics
and a broad range of skills, basically eclectic based. By being eclectic, the social worker is able
to help the client in any situation from at least a basic level. It allows them to work in different
environments, whether it is considered to be micro, mezzo, or macro. There are seven stages of
the generalist model; engagement, assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, termination,
and follow up. Each stage will be discussed below and how it helps change the client for the
better. It is important that the social worker and client go through each stage and successfully
complete the stage before moving onto the next. The first stage of the Generalist model is
Engagement. During this stage, the social worker will prepare the environment for the interview.
This is also where the client and the social worker will have their first face to face interaction.
The social worker will explain that everything the client states will be confidential. During this
time, the social worker must also explain if there is anything that is putting anyone at harm, he or
she will have to report it to authorities. In this stage, it is important that the social worker starts
with being friendly, which allows the client to feel comfortable and maintain a level of trust. The
social worker must have a willingness to listen and is able to ask open ended questions to have a

Review of Index Building Methodologies
Introduction:
In recent decades, academics, policymakers and non governmental organizations have placed
greater focus on establishing more comprehensive metrics of well being and development ##.
Measures of national welfare have conventionally centered on a fairly narrow band of economic
considerations, such as gross domestic product (GDP) and employment rate. Poverty and wellbeing
are now widely understood as multifaceted concepts which cannot be adequately described through
measurements of income alone. Economists and development experts are faced with the challenge
of constructing metrics to distill the various components of wellbeing into an easily comparable
index. The following summarizes the most salient contemporary methods of index construction and
provide a brief overview of their strengths and weaknesses.
Transformation Functions: In order to build a multi dimensional index it is first necessary to
convert the various components deemed relevant into a comparable, aggregatable set of units.
That is, to find a way to bring variables like average income (which may be expect to fall in the
range of tens of thousands of dollars) and life expectancy (which would rarely exceed 90 years) into
the same scale of measurement. The mathematical tools used to accomplish this task are known as
transformation functions. We can sort the transformation functions which are relevant to index
formation into five

The Red Scare Of Nicola Sacco And Bartolomeo Vanzetti
By 1920, the Puritan legacy, the cant of nativist racists, the economic wars, World War One, the
crime wave, and the Red Scare had conditioned the American people to fear and despise certain
groups. These groups usually included eastern and southern Europeans. The arrest and trial of
Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti was fixated more on the battle between Anarchy and
American traditions rather than the actual evidence the prosecution presented. The Red Scare
played a massive part in this. The Sacco and Vanzetticase reflects the fears of immigration,
immigrant crime and anarchy. Within a week of going into war on April 1917, acts of political
repression against radicals began and continued with increasing severity throughout the war
inducing the Red Scare of 1920. The fear of communism increased when a series of strikes
occurred in 1919. The police of Boston went on strike and 100,000 of steel and coal workers did
as well. The communist usually always got the blame. As America entered the 1920s, the hostility
towards immigrants was mounting to incomparable levels. The Bolshevik Revolution of 1919
brought about the fear and panic of communism which led to the institutionalization of Red Scare
policies that contained violations of civil rights and stained the images of immigrants. There was a
large belief that because of the Bolshevik revolution in Russia, there was a vast possibility of an
uprising happening in the United States. The United States was scared that

Theme Of Self Reliance In The Glass Castle
To be self reliant means to rely on your own powers and resources rather than those of others. I
find that Self reliance is a recurring theme in The Glass Castle. Jeanette Walls and her siblings
had to be self reliant to make up for the lack of basic care they received from their parents. Walls
was resilient, strong, and continued to grow despite the struggles she faced. While driving
through the Californian desert the Walls family comes across a Joshua tree. The tree grew
despite the whipping wind and scorching heat of the desert. Walls mother, Rose Mary thought
the tree was beautiful because of the struggle to grow. It s the Joshua tree s struggle that gives it
it s beauty (Walls 38). The Joshua tree symbolizes the struggle to grow in the midst of chaos.
Walls struggles helped her to become self reliant, strong, resilient, and unique. Walls and the tree
are great examples of the unique beauty that can come from dysfunction. Walls was left to her
own devices for the majority of her childhood. Rex and Rosemary put their wants before their
children. Rex was an alcoholic whose addiction became worse over time. Rosemary was an artist
who seemed like she didn t even want to be a mother. Both parents were irresponsible and
neglectful. Walls describes an event of when she was badly burned while trying to make herself
something to eat. As walls counties to describe the event of being burned and staying in the
hospital, the reader gets a glimpse of what the family is like. Wall s parents believed their kids
should be self reliant so that the outcome of their persistence is worth the struggle they
experienced. The Wall s wanted their children to fend for themselves and overcome all the
difficulties they encountered. Many of the struggles that Walls encountered as a child was
because of her parents negligence. Rex and Rose Mary created a life of imagination and fantasy
to cover up how bad their life really was. Rex was to blame for majority of the fantasy. FBI
agents, demon hunting and the glass castle, are all examples of the imagination and fantasy Rex
created for his children. Rosemary embraced the wild life too, but even she saw through some of
Rex s fantasies. The Walls children learned to fend for

The As A Visual And Television Culture
Throughout the years, types of media have gradually changed. One of the most recent changes
taking place in the second half of the twentieth century. In his book, Amusing Ourselves to Death,
Neil Postman talks about the change from the age of typography to the age of visual media and
how it has greatly impacted the American culture. Postman points out several reasons to support his
opinion that the transition has indeed proven to have a negative effect on the American people.
How did, what was once almost entirely a typographical culture, become so completely a visual and
television culture? Postman begins explaining this transition by first describing what life in the
1800 s looked like. Until the 1840 s, information could move only as fast as a human being could
carry it... America was still a composite of regions, each conversing in its own ways, addressing its
own interests. A continent wide conversation was not yet possible (64). The only information
people knew of the outside world was learned either by word of mouth or written letters delivered
in person. Because it was so difficult to obtain information, Americans generally were only
concerned with what was going on in their immediate surroundings. Even newspapers were mostly
about local happenings.
The gap was closed in 1837 with the invention of Samuel Morse s telegraph. The telegraph
provided a way for Americans to connect with people who would normally be too far to
communicate with. Though many disagree,

Infective Endocarditis
Infective endocarditis is the inflammation of the damaged parts of the heart due to an infection
usually from elsewhere in the body. In this disease the endocardium (the inner lining of the heart)
is inflamed and can lead to damaged heart valves and to other life threatening complications.
William Osler was the first one to recognize this disease and gave a name to it in 1885 in his
Gulstonian lectures.
When a patient s heart has a defect or a part that is not as strong as the rest then that part is
susceptible to infective endocarditis. This tends to come from blood flowing from a higher pressure
area in the heart to a lower pressured area. This causes an indention in the heart s endocardium that
collects deposits. When patients have bacteremia, the presence of infectious bacteria in the blood,
the bacteria often fall into these indentions and start to collect. Once they have started to collect
they will multiply and are called vegetation.
Once vegetation happens there is an increased risk of having an abnormal alignment in the valve
that the vegetation is around. This can cause a decreased blood flow or even a blocked valve.
This may cause emboli to escape from the heart and head to other sections of the body (i.e. the
lungs or the brain) depending which valve is being effected. Different ways that the bacteria can
get in the blood are: dental procedures, skin rashes, infections, abscesses, invasive procedures, and
surgeries.

In September 2016, our class was asked by Elizabeth Smith to collate a report describing the
different types of participation to the Individual and community.
Procedure
Research was carried out by visiting Irvine Community Sports Club, interviewing members of the
public and exploring various online sources.
Findings
There are compelling benefits to carrying out regular exercise to an individual, such as weight loss,
increased strength, physical as well as mental health improvements, confidence and social aspects.
Similarly, the benefits to the community are also noteworthy, including improving community
spirit, reduction of NHS costings and greater infrastructure.
Benefits to the individual
The NHS states adults require at least one hundred and fifty minutes of moderate aerobic activity
or seventy five minutes of vigorous aerobic activity a week .
The main result of exercise which people are looking for is weight loss. If we exercise and burn

be personally on the scene. The book describes the battle from both sides of the war, the Union
and Confederacy. The author uses the views of several generals from both sides to elaborate the

Chamberlain starts to overlook the battle, he lost eighty percent of his men in the battle last day,
and his aide is in hospital. He realizes the problem that presents in the Union government which is
the lack of management. On the other side of battle, Longstreet gets the information from the
Goree, the aide of Longstreet, that Union is closed in their right side, and Longstreet suggests
Lee is better to move south than to attack the center, because if the back army is divided, their
battle line is destroyed, but, Lee does it anyway. Then, he and Longstreet go in frontline of the

surprise attack on them to force them back. Longstreet persuades Lee to change the order, Lee

William Bradford And John Smith Essay
Captain John Smith and William Bradford are different in their view of the Native Americans.
When comparing John Smith and William Bradford s work they wrote with different styles, due to
differing audiences and purposes. Smith wrote things based on all the action, promoting himself in
a third person tall tale, in order to establish a higher government position and bring more hard
working Englishmen to the New World. Using detail and supposed thoughts. John Smith s work
can nearly be titled as a noveland has been passed down through newer versions, such as Disney s
Pocahontas or Avatar. To compare, William Bradford s work it probably will never turn into a

Smith also pens his deed as heroic but one is left to wonder about his compassion for humanity.
William Bradford on the other hand reports many interactions with Indians, though the ones that
talk with him are friendly and speak English. Bradford, most likely due to their kindness, always
respectively calls them Indians and views a few of them as his allies.
However, John and Bradford both agree on one issue: The New World should be inhabited and
settled, and good, hard working men should fill its fertile land. John often dreams of
industrializing America and conquering the Natives; Wherefore, Bradford wants New England to
be a place of refuge for his men.
Finally, when comparing them through their works, one does get a glimpse of these founding
writers. John Smith, at best, was a hero let s say he is your favorite superhero who has major
ego problems and he is someone who lacks the value of human life. Smith also is the admired
leader, gets to be in the middle of all the action, and is enticingly charming to the ladies. Bradford,
however appears to have the opposite personality. Bradford is never seeking thrills or fame from
other people like John is. Bradford s dream was to be a servant leader and teacher in the New

The Impact Of Hate Crimes In America
Over the years, America has been prone to this violent act of hate crime that puts its citizens in a
situation of distressed and confusion. Hate crimes have been a part of America s history and
culture for decades. Because America is a diverse country, the level of hate crimes is outrageous in
many different levels due to different cultures, ethnicities, skin colors, and religions. Hate crimeis a
serious act and has influenced our society today to look at certain people a different way. It is not
an act that people are born with rather than they are taught by it or it was inherited within a
particular social group. With the election of President Trump in 2016, hate crimeactivities have
really increased in just a year s matter. President Donald Trump plays a role in really highlighting
these hate crimesand almost making it seem like he is promoting hate crimes though many of his
speeches and statements. Of the many factors that contribute to the highly increasing hate crime
activities, there are four factors that I believe are contributing to the increasing hate crime
activities. Those four factors are thrill seeking, retaliation, mission offenders, and the income
inequality. These factors all have a part into why hate crime activities are increasing over the
year. There are many different hate crimes in America. Hate crimes are considered as criminal
offenses and depending on which state this criminal offense has been committed, they have their
own laws to rule over it. According to Jack Leven and Jack McDevitt, in their article Hate
Crimes, they explained, ..the vast majority of hate crime laws do not criminalize any new
behavior; instead, they increase the penalty for behaviors that are already against the law (Leven
McDevitt, 2011). This is something that has been reviewed and updated over the years. As many
new behaviors to hate crime activity surface, those crimes will eventually fall under some old laws
but the penalty of it will eventually increase. This hate crime activity includes any acts that involve
with any negative attitudes or prejudice toward anyone because of their race, religion, ethnicity, or
gender. It often leads to people being bias and showing a tremendous amount of hatred

ABSTRACT
This study deals with the reliability, availability, and busy period characteristics of single unit
system. On failure of the system, if system can be repaired in short time then repair will be
continued, otherwise in order to improve availability another substitute system taken from outside
is used, which is guaranteed for failure free operation and an expert repairman is called for fast
repair of the unit. Assuming failure and repair times as exponentially distributed, expressions for
the mean time to system failure (MTSF), the steady state availability and busy period for system
are derived using linear first order differential equations. A particular case for the proposed system
is discussed in which substitute system was not considered. Also comparison is performed
graphically to observe the effect of the proposed system on Availability.
Keywords: Availability, Linear first order differential equation, Mean Time to System Failure,
Reliability, Steady State Availability.

Addiction And Family Addiction
United States (US) has the highest rate of substance use among all developed countries (Johnson
Vaderhoef, 2016). Fifty percent of individuals living in the US has the comorbid mental illness
(Johnson Vaderhoef, 2016). Approximately two million people have admitted annually to inpatient
treatment centers in the United States (Johnson Vanderhoef, 2016).
Addiction includes much more than the neurobiology of the brain. Genetic factors have found in
about half the patients with addiction (American Society of Addiction Medicine [ASAM], 2011).
Factors include biological deficit, repeated drug use, cognitive and affective distortions that impairs
perceptions, problems with interpersonal relationships, challenged to coping skills, and co
occurring of other psychiatric disorders (ASAM, 2011). Addiction characterized by the inability to
consistently abstain, impairment in behavior control, craving, diminished recognition of significant
problems, and dysfunctional emotional response (ASAM, 2011). Cognitive changes also occur that
includes preoccupation with substance and blaming problems on other factors in life rather due to
addiction (ASAM, 2011). Working with outpatient and adult and crisis stabilization units in last two
semesters has made me realize that Addiction is more of a family illness than the individual
disease. Each in the addiction family takes on a special role to survive the family disease of
addiction. One of the families I have followed a South Asian family

Loyola s Heroic Leadership
From the founding of the Society of Jesus to today, Jesuits have been charged to help souls in a
heroic manner. This simple mission formed the catalyst and motivation for each Jesuit to engage
the world around them while adhering to their founder s, Ignatius of Loyola s, call to find God
in all things, (Jesuits, 2014). At the core of Ignatian spirituality lies the realization that God is
active in our everyday lives. Therefore, it is the goal of each Jesuit to be sensitive to God s call
for their lives and respond to it. It was from this mindset that Jesuits engaged the world (Jesuits,
2014). In Heroic Leadership, Chris Lowney argues that upon reflection of the lives of the Jesuits,

needed to accept the facts and set about finding a credible theory to explain them, (Lowney, 2003).

A Theoretical Perspective On Organisational Socialisation
Introduction Individuals spend their lives trying to fit in. Fit into their family roles, fit into their
circle of friends and fit into their workplaces. Being a part of a group, a team or an organisations
provides a sense of comfort and belonging. Furthermore, it instills confidence to carry out
respective roles efficiently. The process by which individuals incorporate themselves into society
and into organisations is defined as socialisation (Jablin 2001). Socialisation theories usually focus
on paid workers and their experiences within an organisation (Miller 2012). What they fail to
consider is that volunteers within an organisation are also equally important and in need of the
same guidance and knowledge that paid workers are provided with. Kramer (2010) brings
volunteers to the forefront stating that volunteers are an equal asset to an organisation, especially in
the Non profit sector. The purpose of this research is to explore the process of socialisation among
volunteers in a Non profit organisation. The paper will provide a theoretical perspective on
Organisational Socialisation in terms of its definition and its process. It will then examine how a
particular volunteer socialisation process is applicable in the case of a unique project conducted by
a Non profit organisation. Background The International Society is a Non profit organisation in

Theme Of Revenge In Hamlet
Ojea Quintana 1
Lucas Ojea Quintana
Mr. Sather
AP English 3: Section 1
23 October 2017
The Delay of Revenge Shakespeare s Tragedy Hamlet, demonstrates how humans have to answer
one question throughout their life, To be, or not to be. This question can apply to anything and
anyone and asks if a person should act or not. The ghost is a character who rarely appears, but
offers Hamlet the significant life long question, Hamlet must answer. Throughout the play Hamlet
wonders if he should kill Claudius or not which is the basis of the question, to be or not to be.
Hamlet does not successfully answer that question and he does not act when he should, which
ends up killing him. The ghost affects the theme of revenge because he calls upon Hamlet to
avenge him and Hamlet s legacy. Although deeply sorrowed by his father s death, Hamlet did not
consider payback as an option until he meets with the ghost of his father. The ghost tells Hamlet
King Claudius, his own brother, murdered him. Then the ghost tells Hamlet to revenge his foul and
most unnatural murder? (I.v.25). Although murder was an acceptable form of revenge in Hamlet s
time he is uncertain about killing Claudius. However, upon his father s command, Hamlet
reluctantly swears to get revenge against Claudius. Hamlet does this not because he wants to, but
because his father makes it clear that it is his duty as a son, and so Hamlet should not disappoint
his perfect father. Hamlet promises to prove his love and duty by killing Claudius.
Ojea Quintana 2 The idea of revenge is illustrated in many ways throughout the play. The
appearance of the ghost introduces appearance versus reality. When Claudius is at prayer, Hamlet
had a perfect opportunity to kill him but he did not want revenge for just punishment in his life, he
wanted revenge for punishment for eternity. Hamlet thinks that killing Claudius in his state of
purity do this same villain send /To heaven. /Why, this is hire and salary, not revenge! (III.iii.76)
will make Claudius go to heaven which is much more than he deserves. Yet another change I m
Hamlet s character, changing from not even thinking about killing Claudius at the start of the play

The Grey Areas of Gated Communities

What are gated communities? Is not a high rise condo with lobby security just another form of
gated community? What other kinds of gated communities are there? Find Toronto examples to

Roughly 8 million Americans, which is about 3% of America s households, live in gated
communities with dividers and entryways in the end of the 1990 s. This number is difficult to
monitor and estimate as the real estate market evolves, the gated community changes forms and
alternative forms such as condominiums increase. That being said the number has been steadily
changing as Americans are increasingly looking to privatize previously civic space. According to
census statistics, gated communities are becoming one of the fastest growing housing types in
the United States. Across the border gated communities have never been as popular in Canada as
they are in America. There was less than 300 of them scattered around Canada in 2005. The vast
majority of these, 228 to be exact, were in British Columbia, and just 49 of them in Ontario. The
first residential fencing appeared in the US in the second half the 19th century under the form of

The short story in another country is about patriotism, a term which rudimentarily means: deep

A Research on Sexually Transmitted Diseases
A Research on Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) STDs are among the very significant and
preventable public health issues affecting the society and the globe at large today. In the
development stage of human beings, it is of significance that they involve themselves in sexual
activities. At this development stage, it is of note that adolescents mostly are at risk of
contracting STDs. This is in all cultures because sexual activity is highest during the adolescent
stage. This calls for early intervention to help them deal with this health problem. Educating the
adolescents to abstain, and use contraceptives in early sexual activities, are the most important
factors to deal with this issue (Oncel, Kulakac, Akcan, Eravsar Dedeoglu, 2011). Knowledge of
STDs does not have to influence the sexual behavior. Most adolescents are ignorant on how STDs
transmit. Lack of sexual information is the main cause of the increase in sexual activity among the
youth. Many male and female youth ignore the physiological and psychological development of
their bodies. This research aims to examine the sexual knowledge and behavior of adolescents
towards the subject matter, STDs, to determine some factors including age, sex, and family status
affecting the involvement of the respondents in sexual acts (Oncel et. al., 2011). Research work
reveals that the awareness of the adolescents about sexuality and STDs appears to be inadequate.
This mainly is because of the ignorance of health workers.

France. The adoption of the revolutionary calendar in Francetook place on November 24th, 1793,
by the push of the National Convention. The new calendar survived until it was abolished by

According to the head of the calendar reform committee, Gilbert Romme, the Gregorian calendar
tied France to their retired monarchy (Document 1). Between late 1793 and mid 1794, there was a
period of explosive violence in France known as the Reign of Terror. The Reign of Terror occurred
after the onset of the French Revolution and was marked by mass executions of the enemies of the
revolution. During 1794, the French Republic was engaged in a series of wars, and factions of
France were engaged in civil war against the loyalist regime. This statement given by Romme
may be slightly biased, as he was the head of creating the new calendar. Or, perhaps, the
convention was merely seeking for a bandage for the bloodshed. There were groups who agreed
and disagreed with the Republic calendar. Among the opposing, there was Abbe Sieyes. Sieyes
expressed the belief that it was unwise to adopt a new calendar because the Gregorian calendar was
a French connection with neighboring countries (Document 2). Sieyes advocated the abandonment
of the three estates and the formation of a single chamber of the National Assembly. Sieyes also
wrote The Third Estate, a series of pamphlets that outlined his frustrations of the class of people that

kids is taught to help each other out in the community by helping other kids button the buttons on
the back of their coat.
The difference between loss and release in their community is that a relises is something either
good or bad, it could be good because the elder could of lived its long life and it would be
released in a remembering way. On the other hand being released on a bad term can be, because of
breaking too many rules or being malnourished of different during birth they would release you. A
loss on the other hand is because of a death from an incident of something else that went wrong.

Jonas life will be much different than everyone else s because he is the Receiver. This is because
with his assignment he can not tell people what happens at work. So what Jonas has to do is go
straight to the Giver s office in the morning and then straight home after work with no
communication with friends. Jonas will also act very different from everyone else, because he
will be getting lots of memories and all of these memories will make him look old and exhausted.
Another big thing is that he now knows everything that happened in the world so he can help in a
bad situation to see what is the best way to get out of it.
7. The rules for Jonas don t apply as much, like the lying doesn t apply. Also Jonas can t apply for a
release, or can t be telling people what he had learned from the Giver. So Jonas can lie so that he
can cover up what he is learning.
8. The old receiver who is now known as the Giver tells Jonas about his work and he says that there
are good memories that will feel good and some that are bad and will hurt. He also says that his
work is very tiring and he is very loaded down and tried. So he wants to give them memories to

Myths, Morals, And Rules
Life is a series of life lessons, morals, and rules that we all live by and learn through every
decision we make. A way these lessons, morals, and rules are shown and told is through myths.
A myth is a traditional story from a certain ethnic, religion, place, or culture, and explains how
and why things are the way they are. Myths also incorporate a moral, theme, or life lesson, which
becomes clear at the end of the story. As a child I m sure you ve heard stories from your family
whether a more unknown myth or common tale that you got something out of, whether it was
learning something new, or something you already knew that simply got reinforced. But if you re

Also, my grandpa and Aunty Paning lived in Ilocos Norte, while my grandma lived in Manila,
they were 407.64km, 253.31mi apart and they were still told the same myths, with the exception
of a few details. Furthermore, another person who has heard this myth from past generations is
Sonia Jackson, who was a senior at Tennessee University in 2008. Sonia Jacksons grandmother
Dr. Natividad Corrales Taboada told her daughter, Maria Jackson, Sonia s mother, who then told
Sonia and her siblings the story. There is also a controversy of whether the myth was created
before or after the Spanish invasion, but it s difficult to know for sure. As you can see this myth
is probably very old, to have gone through at least eighty two years, it could easily have existed for
a century.
Usually, Filipino myths are passed down through words spoken and are grouped into four main
groups. The first are myths that explain the creation of the universe, god (Bathala or Maykapal),
the origin of man, supernatural beings and the native Filipino heroes. Second, are legends that tell
the origin of a local phenomenon, places, plants, animals, thoughts, and names. Third, are fables
where animals or inanimate beings are made to speak and act like rational beings to point out
morals, this is the group the myth falls into, but also has aspects from the second group because

Stationery stores carry Noah s Ark invitations and thank you cards. If you are purchasing Noah s
Ark invitations, you might want to purchase the coordinating thank you cards to put in the wishing
well.
You can have all of your guests fill out the envelopes with their addresses so Mom has less work to

door prize.
Peas in a Pod is another popular theme. This is one that goes with twins, triplets, or even more.

theme that has a lot of coordinating party supplies.
You can use twin baby shower invitations from a printer, or as an alternative, you can hand print
invitations and attach them to packets of pea seeds. You could also use pea seeds as party favors.
Remember the game guess how many jelly beans ? You can do a variation on this with guess how
many peas . Prizes can be frozen or canned peas. Sounds silly, but everyone can use some extra

The Great Chicago Fire
On Sunday, October 18, 1871 the largest fire Chicago has ever seen broke out. Hundreds died
and thousands of homes were annihilated. Devistation towered over the city, ashes floated
gracefully through the air as bodies, houses and cherished items burned. People ran in fear,
holding their young, crying for the gone, searching for saftey. Searching for life. Searching for
hope. The past few weeks had been hot, dry, and rainless. A drought. Rain had not fallen for
three months. Though, despite the drought, the O Leary family had been having an exceptional
October. The O Leary family consisted of Mrs. O Leary, her husband and 5 children. Mr. O Leary
worked as a laborer, as Mrs. O Leary kept with the cows and the children. The... Show more content

The mayor made a drastic decision to set the prisoners free to keep them safe from the fire as
well. So, they were released into the midst of the burning streets. Albeit, the police thought the
prisoners would run and seek shelter. . . that is quiet the opposite. The prisoners rushed into the
streets and begin smashing windows of abandon buisnesses and homes, looting them of their
goods. Just as everyone thought the fire was dying down and would no longer spread, the wind
picked up, and the fire spread, causing it to head farther northward. Then, something terrible
happened. Fire Devils. Fire Devils are whirls of air which send burning wood and such things
flying through the air, and in this case, across a river. Not good. Everything seemd hopeless.
This was impossible for humans to fix or cure, the fire was too out of control. There was only one
thing that could tame is massive beast; rain. At 11 o clock Monday night the sky began to rain. A
light drizzle at first, but as the night went on, the rain became harder. Things were looking up for
the buring city of Chicago. It continued to rain the rest of Monday night. Finally, in the dim light
of Tuesday, the fire stopped. The fire killed more than 300 people and destroyed more than 17,500
buildings. Two million dollars worth of damage was done. Some buildings that were destroyed
were: The Chicago Tribune buildings, great hotels, and many wonderful businesses throughout the
town. Even the courthouse

temperature, or an extreme natural disaster, it still tends to have an impact on the society as a
whole because of all the changes and adjustments that have to be made.

15, 2015, according to the United States Census Bureau. Over the past few years there has also
been an increase in its population, it seems to be growing at a rate of 1.49% as of 2014. The
population of Karachi is not exact, however according to the world population review, there was
an estimated population of 23.7 million in 2014, the population size as of this year is yet to be
determined.
Karachi is the largest city in Pakistan located on the southeastern part of the country. It covers an
area of about 3,527 km squared and it is mostly comprised of flat or rolling plains on the western

A Study Interview On Relationship Between Education And...
Holding the idea of collaboration in policy making, Tell, (2012) through the study interview in
relation to education quality, teachers applauded the value of teachers and students participation in
educational policy making as one of the components of education boosts. While asserting their
point, teachers pinpointed that:
[...T] he answer to [the] quality of education is largely laid within their jurisdiction. The government
and other stakeholders can put forward all theories to improve education but that will just be
another merry go round, because we (teachers) and our students are the only group of stakeholders
who have the genuine answer. (Telli, 2012, p) Again teachers bring into attention the idea of what
Sahlberg, (2007) called the culture of trust simply, a situation where people with high authority in
education trust other groups such as principals, parents and their communities, who have the quest
of providing the unsurpassed education for their children and youth (p, 157). In general, the
primary idea of shared policy making, expands further than teachers, students, or parents to
include multidisciplinary groups. Perhaps Choi, Pak, (2006) put it clear that: The objectives of
multiple corrective approaches can support in resolving real world or complex problems, to
provide different perspectives on problems (p. 351). In addition, collaboration in policy making
provides players an opportunity of additional learning of the problem in education, and

Geoffrey Canada was born on January 13, 1952 in New York, NY (Biography.com). He grew up
in a poor, violent neighborhood to a single mother. His mother highly valued education and instilled
those values in Geoffrey at a very young age and since he highly valued education he went on to

Graduate School of Education (hcz.org). Having become a college graduate he decided to put his

I would ask him this because if you only have one view on a situation it is hard to be unbiased
and this would often lead to inaccurate statements by not knowing both sides. My second
question that I would ask is: What do you believe is right with the education system? I would
ask this because currently his view has one strong side, but that doesn t demonstrate that you are
knowledgeable on both sides. Knowing both sides of an argument and showing that you
acknowledge that some parts are correct lend credibility to you. Doing this also emphasizes that
the point you are arguing for is more accurate because you know two sides and you pick the one
that you believe is better for all those that are trying to be helped. My final question that I would
ask is: What is the one thing you want to change most about the education system? I would ask
this because I would like to know what kind of ideas that Dr. Canada has for changing the system.
This is important because I know that he wants to change the system, but I did not hear a
recommendation for what could be done to make a

  • 2. Warner Bros Logos History In September of 1925, Warner Bros. retrofitted an old studio in Brooklyn, New York to produce sound film using the Western Electric Technology. To showcase the new technology Warner Bros. signed licensing agreements, and a number of popular entertainers. Warner Bros. made an ingenious move by signing these contracts before they even had use for the talent involved, which allowed the company to avoid paying inflated rates routinely demanded by talent once sound became the norm. Since Warner Bros. had a lack of movie stars and its operation was small, sound allowed for them to become a major studio. Warner Bros. pushed ahead with the sound on disc technology, but the majority of the industry agreed that sound directly recorded to filmwas... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We could not have the films we do today, or at any point without advancing and improving the technology in the industry. It all started with photography and then came the Kinetoscope, then the Vitascope, then improvements onto the camera, 30mm cameras, 70mm, and Vitaphones. All these advances happened within a 30 year period which is quite remarkable. These advances in technology impacted the history of film forever. Without the innovation to put sound in film, filmmakers would have been limited to what the can do with their characters. After so long it would have got sick of seeing very identical silent films over and over again. This also allowed for music to become a big part in film. Music helps the audiences understand what kind of emotion they should feel during a film, and during a silent film you cannot achieve that next level of emotion. Also by putting sound into film this allowed the audience to hear a character speak. Being able to hear a character talk lets the audience get more invested into the character. The character on screen being silent would draw a line that the audiences always knew they were in a movie, but now with the advanced technology hearing the character speak and interact with others get people more immersed. The technological innovations have been further improved on today with the use of CGI, digital cameras, and many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Language in Dante’s Inferno Essay Language in Dante s Inferno What happens to language in hell? In Dante s Inferno, the journeying pilgrim explores language s variations and nuances as he attempts to communicate with hell s pitiable and sordid inhabitants, despite multiple language barriers and relentless cacophonies. Dante thematically unifies language s inconsistencies in hell; that is, he associates the pilgrim s abortive attempts to communicate with particular shades, and the incomprehensible languages and sounds that beleaguer him, with a symbol from Christian mythology: the Tower of Babel. Dante juxtaposes this Christian myth with Virgil s symbolic association with elevated speech in the Inferno. Virgil functions as the pilgrim s guide and poetic inspiration, ... Moreover, similar to his inhabitancy of Limbo, the first circle of hell, among those who are not completely submerged in hell squalor, Likewise, the pilgrim s relationship to the languages of hell s denizens represents the limits of language in hell, which Dante allegorizes in the Tower of Babel myth. The myth shows that Nimrod, an architect, leads a massive effort to erect a colossal tower that, according to Augustine, was intended not merely to touch heaven, but was a conspiracy to usurp heaven (Dronke 39). Due to the excessive pride of Nimrod and his followers, God punishes humans by destroying the tower. He then creates a number of languages that are not mutually understood, which replace the single, universally understood language that exists before the tower falls. Ultimately, Dante presents the multiplicity of languages, symbolized by the Tower of Babel mythology, as having a dual legacy in hell: the various languages symbolize either power, when one has control over languages, or alienation, when one cannot understand someone else s speech. The pilgrim s encounter with Nimrod underscores language s ultimate detachment from successful communication in hell because the architect is an enigmatic figure whose language epitomizes incomprehensibility. Nimrod appears as a giant in the Inferno ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The poem emerges as a gigantic metaphor for melancholy, loneliness, solitude the unavoidable companions of human existence. Similar kinds of feelings are evoked by Robert Frost in Desert Places . The very title is suggestive of a mood of emptiness. Throughout our life we cross various deserts to find our destiny. The beauty of the poem lies in the conjunction the meetingpoint desert outside in the nature with the desert inside. This becomes the focal point of the poem. The lonesome man crystallizes his loneliness in this snowy covering. Such is the impact of the natural cohesiveness that the poet, as he observes the natural panorama, regards himself as an intruder in this unit. The poet relishes the pleasure that the animals are having as they crouch in their lairs, becoming a part of the nature. The animals manage to develop a correlation with the nature because they don t complain due to a feeling of unconsciousness while the poet does complain, he does give vent to his feeling as his perceptive mind ponders over the cold hard realities. Realities that whether he matters in this whole setup? The strain in the emotional chords of the poet endow a strange minor tone to the whole poem as he realizes that his benumbed mind has failed to draw a relation and so he grooves back into his own self. The whole of the second stanza is brimming with the realization of being deprived. It becomes his callousness and stubbornness to enter the realm of nature and endowed to him by the sense of being lonely and deprived. The recognition of this sense of loneliness and dispossession results in his mind being at a loss to emotional response. In this mind set he gives way to the benumbing mood all around. The whole nature is showing a moodic deceleration because of the snow and the night. In direct contrast to its nature, this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The heinous nature of the crimes against Rehteah and the humiliation she experienced after them only increase the gravity of the situation at hand. Bullying and sexual assault are unfortunately all too common amongst students at this age. The desire to fit in with one s peers often leads to these behaviors being imitated and repeated instead of challenged, a concept referred to in the psychological literature as normative influence. It is therefore crucial to create an environment in which students are educated about the impact and seriousness of bullying and sexual assault. However, this is only one part of the equation of equal importance is an environment where self control is given its best chance at success. Research has shown low self control to be closely associated with one s willingness to engage in antisocial and impulsive behaviors. Furthermore, we know that glucose is required by the brain to carry out its functions, including inhibiting one s own actions. At least one study has shown that participants who are given a glucose rich shake before playing a purposefully frustrating game are significantly better at regulating their emotions than participants who were given a placebo. Another study showed that people who ate breakfast reported more positive moods overall compared to people who skipped it. These studies are representative of the body of literature as a whole, and given this, I would highly recommend you consider implementing a program that ensures students are receiving adequate levels of glucose from day to day. I predict that not only would this reduce the amount of harmful and antisocial behaviors students might exhibit towards each other and authority figures, but as an added benefit, overall academic performance would ... Richard Fairbank and Nigel Morris, both diligent entrepreneurs, started laying the bricks for their eventual successful company, Capital One, in the late 1980 s. They both worked in the Virginia based Signet Bank . Fairbank started noticing trends in the financial industry that he felt Signet was missing out on. These opportunities were in the credit card industry. He, as well as all of Signet Bank knew that the credit card industry was very risky, but Fairbank was ready to take a chance in this, what can be, highly profitable field. Signet Bank almost had to cut the credit card venture do to losses in profit from some real estate problems during the first couple years of the credit card launch, but being the idea champions they were, Fairbank, along with his partner Morris, both put their heads together and saved the day for Signet Bank. Examples Of Ethos In The Declaration Of Independence Classical rhetoric considers that a speaker or writer has three appeals at his or her disposal: to ethos (the standing of the writer or speaker), to pathos (emotion), and to logos (reason), divided into deductive reasoning and inductive reasoning. (The Declaration) Jefferson s drafting of the Declaration of Independence is based on three types of argument ethos, pathos, logos which are modes of persuasion. They are also referred to as the three artistic proofs (Aristotlecoined the terms), and are all represented by Greek words. (Holliday) The principle of ethos is to prove to the audience/reader that the writer is a reasonable person and is therefore credible. The writers of the Declaration of Independence establish their ethical standing, that they are men of good sense, good character, and good will; first, by acknowledging that they need to explain to the world the reasons for their actions. In The Film Farewell My ConcubineAndThe King And The Clown Drawing on the two films Farewell my Concubine and The King and the Clown will further explore how homosexuality is represented among China and South Korea. The film, Farewell my Concubine was one of the first and most significant discussions towards homosexuality being depicted on screen. It was released in the year 1993, covering the period of the Chinese social upheavals between the 1920s through to the 1970s in the setting of the Beijing Opera. The film raises the attitude of homosexualityin the most painful period of the traditional Chinese history, for the Chinese and Western viewers (Lau 1995, 22). According to Lau, this film was an opportunity to stimulate the inherent of the Beijing Opera in relation to the homosexual practices that were tolerated during the era (Lau 1995, 22). Zheng further suggested that the film was also a chance to understand the homophobic anxiety of the historical and political brutality in Chinese history (Zhang 1999, 101). The film attempts to illustrate that the Chinese cultural connections and homosexuality cannot coexist. The main protagonist, Cheng Dieyi, sense of identity is heavily reinforced by the power structure within the environment through harsh symbolic rapes. By being eclectic, the social worker is able to help the client in any situation from at least a basic level. It allows them to work in different environments, whether it is considered to be micro, mezzo, or macro. There are seven stages of the generalist model; engagement, assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, termination, and follow up. Each stage will be discussed below and how it helps change the client for the better. It is important that the social worker and client go through each stage and successfully complete the stage before moving onto the next. The first stage of the Generalist model is Engagement. During this stage, the social worker will prepare the environment for the interview. This is also where the client and the social worker will have their first face to face interaction. The social worker will explain that everything the client states will be confidential. • 15. Review Of Index Building Methodologies Essay Alexander Khoury 11/7/2014 Review of Index Building Methodologies Introduction: In recent decades, academics, policymakers and non governmental organizations have placed greater focus on establishing more comprehensive metrics of well being and development ##. Measures of national welfare have conventionally centered on a fairly narrow band of economic considerations, such as gross domestic product (GDP) and employment rate. Poverty and wellbeing are now widely understood as multifaceted concepts which cannot be adequately described through measurements of income alone. Economists and development experts are faced with the challenge of constructing metrics to distill the various components of wellbeing into an easily comparable index. The following summarizes the most salient contemporary methods of index construction and provide a brief overview of their strengths and weaknesses. Transformation Functions: In order to build a multi dimensional index it is first necessary to convert the various components deemed relevant into a comparable, aggregatable set of units. That is, to find a way to bring variables like average income (which may be expect to fall in the range of tens of thousands of dollars) and life expectancy (which would rarely exceed 90 years) into the same scale of measurement. The mathematical tools used to accomplish this task are known as transformation functions. We can sort the transformation functions which are relevant to index formation into five ... The Red Scare Of Nicola Sacco And Bartolomeo Vanzetti By 1920, the Puritan legacy, the cant of nativist racists, the economic wars, World War One, the crime wave, and the Red Scare had conditioned the American people to fear and despise certain groups. These groups usually included eastern and southern Europeans. The arrest and trial of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti was fixated more on the battle between Anarchy and American traditions rather than the actual evidence the prosecution presented. The Red Scare played a massive part in this. The Sacco and Vanzetticase reflects the fears of immigration, immigrant crime and anarchy. Within a week of going into war on April 1917, acts of political repression against radicals began and continued with increasing severity throughout the war inducing the Red Scare of 1920. The fear of communism increased when a series of strikes occurred in 1919. The police of Boston went on strike and 100,000 of steel and coal workers did as well. The communist usually always got the blame. As America entered the 1920s, the hostility towards immigrants was mounting to incomparable levels. The Bolshevik Revolution of 1919 brought about the fear and panic of communism which led to the institutionalization of Red Scare policies that contained violations of civil rights and stained the images of immigrants. I find that Self reliance is a recurring theme in The Glass Castle. Jeanette Walls and her siblings had to be self reliant to make up for the lack of basic care they received from their parents. Walls was resilient, strong, and continued to grow despite the struggles she faced. While driving through the Californian desert the Walls family comes across a Joshua tree. The tree grew despite the whipping wind and scorching heat of the desert. Walls mother, Rose Mary thought the tree was beautiful because of the struggle to grow. It s the Joshua tree s struggle that gives it it s beauty (Walls 38). The Joshua tree symbolizes the struggle to grow in the midst of chaos. Walls struggles helped her to become self reliant, strong, resilient, and unique. Walls and the tree are great examples of the unique beauty that can come from dysfunction. • 20. The As A Visual And Television Culture Throughout the years, types of media have gradually changed. One of the most recent changes taking place in the second half of the twentieth century. In his book, Amusing Ourselves to Death, Neil Postman talks about the change from the age of typography to the age of visual media and how it has greatly impacted the American culture. Postman points out several reasons to support his opinion that the transition has indeed proven to have a negative effect on the American people. How did, what was once almost entirely a typographical culture, become so completely a visual and television culture? Postman begins explaining this transition by first describing what life in the 1800 s looked like. Until the 1840 s, information could move only as fast as a human being could carry it... America was still a composite of regions, each conversing in its own ways, addressing its own interests. A continent wide conversation was not yet possible (64). The only information people knew of the outside world was learned either by word of mouth or written letters delivered in person. Because it was so difficult to obtain information, Americans generally were only concerned with what was going on in their immediate surroundings. Even newspapers were mostly about local happenings. The gap was closed in 1837 with the invention of Samuel Morse s telegraph. The telegraph provided a way for Americans to connect with people who would normally be too far to communicate with. • 22. Infective Endocarditis Infective endocarditis is the inflammation of the damaged parts of the heart due to an infection usually from elsewhere in the body. In this disease the endocardium (the inner lining of the heart) is inflamed and can lead to damaged heart valves and to other life threatening complications. William Osler was the first one to recognize this disease and gave a name to it in 1885 in his Gulstonian lectures. When a patient s heart has a defect or a part that is not as strong as the rest then that part is susceptible to infective endocarditis. This tends to come from blood flowing from a higher pressure area in the heart to a lower pressured area. This causes an indention in the heart s endocardium that collects deposits. When patients have bacteremia, the presence of infectious bacteria in the blood, the bacteria often fall into these indentions and start to collect. Once they have started to collect they will multiply and are called vegetation. Once vegetation happens there is an increased risk of having an abnormal alignment in the valve that the vegetation is around. This can cause a decreased blood flow or even a blocked valve. This may cause emboli to escape from the heart and head to other sections of the body (i.e. the lungs or the brain) depending which valve is being effected. Different ways that the bacteria can get in the blood are: dental procedures, skin rashes, infections, abscesses, invasive procedures, and surgeries. The nursing process should be ... Hate crimeis a serious act and has influenced our society today to look at certain people a different way. It is not an act that people are born with rather than they are taught by it or it was inherited within a particular social group. With the election of President Trump in 2016, hate crimeactivities have really increased in just a year s matter. President Donald Trump plays a role in really highlighting these hate crimesand almost making it seem like he is promoting hate crimes though many of his speeches and statements. Of the many factors that contribute to the highly increasing hate crime activities, there are four factors that I believe are contributing to the increasing hate crime activities. Those four factors are thrill seeking, retaliation, mission offenders, and the income inequality. These factors all have a part into why hate crime activities are increasing over the year. There are many different hate crimes in America. Hate crimes are considered as criminal offenses and depending on which state this criminal offense has been committed, they have their own laws to rule over it. According to Jack Leven and Jack McDevitt, in their article Hate Crimes, they explained, ..the vast majority of hate crime laws do not criminalize any new behavior; instead, they increase the penalty for behaviors that are already against the law (Leven McDevitt, 2011). This is something that has been reviewed and updated over the years. As many new behaviors to hate crime activity surface, those crimes will eventually fall under some old laws but the penalty of it will eventually increase. Email:gkbhatti2289@gmail.com ABSTRACT This study deals with the reliability, availability, and busy period characteristics of single unit system. On failure of the system, if system can be repaired in short time then repair will be continued, otherwise in order to improve availability another substitute system taken from outside is used, which is guaranteed for failure free operation and an expert repairman is called for fast repair of the unit. Assuming failure and repair times as exponentially distributed, expressions for the mean time to system failure (MTSF), the steady state availability and busy period for system are derived using linear first order differential equations. A particular case for the proposed system is discussed in which substitute system was not considered. Also comparison is performed graphically to observe the effect of the proposed system on Availability. The process by which individuals incorporate themselves into society and into organisations is defined as socialisation (Jablin 2001). Socialisation theories usually focus on paid workers and their experiences within an organisation (Miller 2012). What they fail to consider is that volunteers within an organisation are also equally important and in need of the same guidance and knowledge that paid workers are provided with. Kramer (2010) brings volunteers to the forefront stating that volunteers are an equal asset to an organisation, especially in the Non profit sector. The purpose of this research is to explore the process of socialisation among volunteers in a Non profit organisation. • 34. Theme Of Revenge In Hamlet Ojea Quintana 1 Lucas Ojea Quintana Mr. Sather AP English 3: Section 1 23 October 2017 The Delay of Revenge Shakespeare s Tragedy Hamlet, demonstrates how humans have to answer one question throughout their life, To be, or not to be. This question can apply to anything and anyone and asks if a person should act or not. The ghost is a character who rarely appears, but offers Hamlet the significant life long question, Hamlet must answer. Throughout the play Hamlet wonders if he should kill Claudius or not which is the basis of the question, to be or not to be. Hamlet does not successfully answer that question and he does not act when he should, which ends up killing him. The ghost affects the theme of revenge because he calls upon Hamlet to avenge him and Hamlet s legacy. Although deeply sorrowed by his father s death, Hamlet did not consider payback as an option until he meets with the ghost of his father. The ghost tells Hamlet King Claudius, his own brother, murdered him. Then the ghost tells Hamlet to revenge his foul and most unnatural murder? (I.v.25). Although murder was an acceptable form of revenge in Hamlet s time he is uncertain about killing Claudius. However, upon his father s command, Hamlet reluctantly swears to get revenge against Claudius. Hamlet does this not because he wants to, but because his father makes it clear that it is his duty as a son, and so Hamlet should not disappoint his perfect father. Hamlet promises to prove his love and duty by killing Claudius. Ojea Quintana 2 The idea of revenge is illustrated in many ways throughout the play. The appearance of the ghost introduces appearance versus reality. When Claudius is at prayer, Hamlet had a perfect opportunity to kill him but he did not want revenge for just punishment in his life, he wanted revenge for punishment for eternity. Hamlet thinks that killing Claudius in his state of purity do this same villain send /To heaven. /Why, this is hire and salary, not revenge! • 40. A Research on Sexually Transmitted Diseases A Research on Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) STDs are among the very significant and preventable public health issues affecting the society and the globe at large today. In the development stage of human beings, it is of significance that they involve themselves in sexual activities. At this development stage, it is of note that adolescents mostly are at risk of contracting STDs. This is in all cultures because sexual activity is highest during the adolescent stage. This calls for early intervention to help them deal with this health problem. Educating the adolescents to abstain, and use contraceptives in early sexual activities, are the most important factors to deal with this issue (Oncel, Kulakac, Akcan, Eravsar Dedeoglu, 2011). Knowledge of STDs does not have to influence the sexual behavior. Most adolescents are ignorant on how STDs transmit. Lack of sexual information is the main cause of the increase in sexual activity among the youth. Many male and female youth ignore the physiological and psychological development of their bodies. This research aims to examine the sexual knowledge and behavior of adolescents towards the subject matter, STDs, to determine some factors including age, sex, and family status affecting the involvement of the respondents in sexual acts (Oncel et. al., 2011). Research work reveals that the awareness of the adolescents about sexuality and STDs appears to be inadequate. This mainly is because of the ignorance of health workers. ... • 41. French Calendar Dbq Essay France was a country plagued by debt, corruption, and an extremely large gap between each socioeconomic group. With these troubles, the loss of Louis XIV, and the indecisiveness of Louis XVI, France underwent a violent revolution; one that left its citizens blood poured over the ruins of France. The adoption of the revolutionary calendar in Francetook place on November 24th, 1793, by the push of the National Convention. The new calendar survived until it was abolished by Napoleon in 1806. This revolutionary calendar was created in attempt to break free of the dogma of a feeling government, but it failed to converge with the desires of the working class. The French Republican calendar was largely unsupported due to anti tradition by the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the head of the calendar reform committee, Gilbert Romme, the Gregorian calendar tied France to their retired monarchy (Document 1). Between late 1793 and mid 1794, there was a period of explosive violence in France known as the Reign of Terror. The Reign of Terror occurred after the onset of the French Revolution and was marked by mass executions of the enemies of the revolution. During 1794, the French Republic was engaged in a series of wars, and factions of France were engaged in civil war against the loyalist regime. This statement given by Romme may be slightly biased, as he was the head of creating the new calendar. Or, perhaps, the convention was merely seeking for a bandage for the bloodshed. There were groups who agreed and disagreed with the Republic calendar. Among the opposing, there was Abbe Sieyes. Sieyes expressed the belief that it was unwise to adopt a new calendar because the Gregorian calendar was a French connection with neighboring countries (Document 2). Sieyes advocated the abandonment of the three estates and the formation of a single chamber of the National Assembly. Sieyes also wrote The Third Estate, a series of pamphlets that outlined his frustrations of the class of people that made up the third estate. In many senses, he was the force that revealed the fraudulent nobility and exposed the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jonas life will be much different than everyone else s because he is the Receiver. This is because with his assignment he can not tell people what happens at work. So what Jonas has to do is go straight to the Giver s office in the morning and then straight home after work with no communication with friends. Jonas will also act very different from everyone else, because he will be getting lots of memories and all of these memories will make him look old and exhausted. Another big thing is that he now knows everything that happened in the world so he can help in a bad situation to see what is the best way to get out of it. 7. The rules for Jonas don t apply as much, like the lying doesn t apply. Also Jonas can t apply for a release, or can t be telling people what he had learned from the Giver. So Jonas can lie so that he can cover up what he is learning. 8. The old receiver who is now known as the Giver tells Jonas about his work and he says that there are good memories that will feel good and some that are bad and will hurt. He also says that his work is very tiring and he is very loaded down and tried. So he wants to give them memories to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Myths, Morals, And Rules Life is a series of life lessons, morals, and rules that we all live by and learn through every decision we make. A way these lessons, morals, and rules are shown and told is through myths. A myth is a traditional story from a certain ethnic, religion, place, or culture, and explains how and why things are the way they are. Myths also incorporate a moral, theme, or life lesson, which becomes clear at the end of the story. As a child I m sure you ve heard stories from your family whether a more unknown myth or common tale that you got something out of, whether it was learning something new, or something you already knew that simply got reinforced. Furthermore, another person who has heard this myth from past generations is Sonia Jackson, who was a senior at Tennessee University in 2008. Sonia Jacksons grandmother Dr. Natividad Corrales Taboada told her daughter, Maria Jackson, Sonia s mother, who then told Sonia and her siblings the story. There is also a controversy of whether the myth was created before or after the Spanish invasion, but it s difficult to know for sure. As you can see this myth is probably very old, to have gone through at least eighty two years, it could easily have existed for a century. Usually, Filipino myths are passed down through words spoken and are grouped into four main groups. The first are myths that explain the creation of the universe, god (Bathala or Maykapal), the origin of man, supernatural beings and the native Filipino heroes. Second, are legends that tell the origin of a local phenomenon, places, plants, animals, thoughts, and names. Third, are fables where animals or inanimate beings are made to speak and act like rational beings to point out morals, this is the group the myth falls into, but also has aspects from the second group because ... Holding the idea of collaboration in policy making, Tell, (2012) through the study interview in relation to education quality, teachers applauded the value of teachers and students participation in educational policy making as one of the components of education boosts. While asserting their point, teachers pinpointed that: [...T] he answer to [the] quality of education is largely laid within their jurisdiction. The government and other stakeholders can put forward all theories to improve education but that will just be another merry go round, because we (teachers) and our students are the only group of stakeholders who have the genuine answer. (Telli, 2012, p) Again teachers bring into attention the idea of what Sahlberg, (2007) called the culture of trust simply, a situation where people with high authority in education trust other groups such as principals, parents and their communities, who have the quest of providing the unsurpassed education for their children and youth (p, 157). My second question that I would ask is: What do you believe is right with the education system? I would ask this because currently his view has one strong side, but that doesn t demonstrate that you are knowledgeable on both sides. Knowing both sides of an argument and showing that you acknowledge that some parts are correct lend credibility to you. Doing this also emphasizes that the point you are arguing for is more accurate because you know two sides and you pick the one that you believe is better for all those that are trying to be helped.
