Nathaniel Hawthorne and Edgar Allen Poe were extremely successful gothic or
dark romantic authors of the 19th century. The two authors wrote a plethora of
short stories that strayed from the rationalist styles of the 18th century and paved
the way for other dark romantic authors. Romanticism focuses on emotions and
nature while rationalism focuses on logic and reasoning. Hawthorne and Poe
display the darker side of human nature throughout all of their works. Three
especially good examples of this particular style are Hawthorne s Dr. Heidegger s

The food is changed into chyme which is a slimy material. The chyme gets mixed
with highly acidic gastric juice and strong digestive enzymes in the stomach. This is
to prepare the chyme for the small intestine. There are hormones like gastine and
molin that help move the chyme and pump gastric juice. The chyme then goes to the
first part of the small intestine called the duodenum. The small intestines have three
parts which are the duodenum, jejunum, and the ileum. The small intestines break
down the chyme by enzymes from the pancreas and bile. The pancreas produces
insulin which controls metabolism in the blood and enzymes that break down fats,
carbohydrates, and protein. Then the gallbladder releases the bile it stores into the
duodenum to absorb fats. The duodenum is mostly the continuous breakdown of the
chyme while the jejunum and ileum absorb the nutrients. All the nutrients get
absorbed from the foods (vitamins, proteins, minerals, fats, and carbohydrates) that
travel into the bloodstream throughout the body. This is the third main function
called absorption. The liver absorbs all the nutrients from the small intestines.
Another thing that the liver does is it makes chemicals from the nutrients it absorbs

What is the plot of the Aeneid?
The Aeneid is a story that follows a Trojan warrior and refugee who fleeted during
the sack of Troy, named Aeneas, who arrives on the Shores of Italy where he
struggles to fulfill his destiny as he encounters many foes and even wavers constantly
between emotions and commitments while trying to fight the Italian prince Turnus.
It is a Roman mythological story about how Aeneas founded the foundations of the
city of Rome and is also believed to be the Gateway between the pagan Christian
centuries.
The story s first half begins with the journey of Aeneas from Troy to Rome. Book 1
he is introduced to us while stuck in a storm and his enemy throughout the poem,
Juno, stirs against the fleet. The storm then drives Aeneas to the coast of Carthage in

In Book 5 Aeneas father dies and funeral games are held. Afterwards in Book 6 he
departs to Cumae (Italy) and consults the Cumaen Sibyl who leads him through to the
underworld where Aeneas meets his dead father who reveals Rome s destiny to him.
Book 7 which is now the second half, continues on to be an address to the muse and
a recount of Aeneas arrival in Italy which also includes his betrothal to the daughter
of King Latinus, Lavinia, who has already been promised to King of the Rutulians,
