Here, you will find some paragraphs, compositions, application and informal letters suitable for standard 6 of and Bangla or English version student in Bangladesh. I made these by using several books and also made some modification by myself. I cannot remember the writer’s names particularly. So, specifically, I cannot give credit to all the books and materials. Maybe I took help from book like - Advanced learners communicative English by Chowdhury &Hossain and NCTB book of class 6. But credit goes to them. I am just sharing my experience and skills while I was a home tutor and made these notes during that time for my students.
1. PARAGRAPH
Global Village
The term “Global village” means the very fast and effective means of travel
and communication. It is a buzzword in the present time. It helps us by conquering
time and space. Now the people of the world feel far closer to one another than in
the past, however, separated by vast distances. Today people can communicate with
one another within the shortest time. Now people can travel from one country to
another with the help of fastest transport. They can get the news and views of all
countries of the world by reading newspaper. Moreover, through the electronic
media like TV, radio, internet and so on people can get news of the world in a very
short time. People can talk with each other with the help of telephone, mobile etc.
Now, they can talk even face to face by using video calling facility provided by our
network operator or using skype and so on. We can enjoy live program held in any
part of the world through satellite television or internet. Few years ago, it takes huge
time to travel from one country to another. But, now a days, we can travel faster by
using aero plane, or magnetic bullet train in some countries. Thus, bondage between
people of the world becomes stronger to stronger day by day. Today all people of
the world seems like neighbors living in a same village. So, the world can say a Global
Village.
Wage Earners
A wage earner is a person who does not have any permanent work. He earns
money to support a household through his little day to day earning. He usually gets
up early in the morning and goes out in quest of work. Sometimes he found job and
sometimes could not manage a job. He works hard from dawn to dusk and gets his
wages at the end of the work. Then he goes to bazar to buy his daily necessaries. He
has to work hard in various fields. He is always dependent on his employer. On some
days he earns more and he and his family can eat to their heart’s content. But this
does not happen regularly. Some days he does not find any work. Then he and his
2. family have to pass without food. So, sorrows and sufferings are his daily
companions. He does not know what is joy and happiness. He earns his living by the
sweat of his brow. But his is ill paid and very much neglected. Sometimes they are
maltreated. But the service of a wage earner is of great importance. So, we should
show due respect to him.
The concert for Bangladesh
The Concert for Bangladesh (or Bangla Desh, as the country name was spelled
originally) was the name for two benefit concerts organized by George Harrison and
Ravi Shankar, held at noon and at 7pm on Sunday, 1 August 1971, playing to a total
of 40,000 people at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The shows were
organized to raise international awareness and fund relief efforts for refugees from
East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) following the 1970 Bhola cyclone and what came to
be known as the 1971 Bangladesh atrocities. The Concert for Bangladesh was also
the title of the accompanying live album, a boxed three-record set, released in
December 1971 (January 1972 in Britain), and Apple Films' concert documentary,
which opened in cinemas in the spring of 1972. The concert raised close to
US$250,000 for Bangladesh relief, which was administered by UNICEF. As with the
live album, sales of the 2005 DVD release of the film continue to benefit the George
Harrison Fund for UNICEF. Bengali musician Ravi Shankar first brought the issue to
the attention of his friend George Harrison in the early months of 1971, over dinner
at Friar Park, according to Klaus Voormann’s recollection. By April, Shankar and
Harrison were in Los Angeles working on the soundtrack to the film Raga, during
which Harrison documented his early thoughts on the Bangladesh crisis in his song
“Miss O'Dell”. George Harrison himself sent up the benefit-show concept on film, in
the Dick Clement-directed handmade comedy Water in 1985. At the so-called
Concert for Cascara, he along with Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Jon Lord and others
make a surprise appearance on stage before the United Nations General Assembly,
performing the song "Freedom". The artists who performed in the concert have
played a major part in the formation of the attitudes of our generation. It’s for this
reason that we want future generations to be aware of the concert when they open
the time capsule.
3. The Victory Day
Victory Day is a red-letter day in the history of any country. And 16th
December is the victory Day of our beloved country, Bangladesh. This victory means
rebuilt of self-immolation of 30 lacs people of our country. The brutal Pakistani army
began an inhuman attack on the innocent people and many of our intellectuals and
tortured innumerable woman. But our brave sons could not tolerate this inhumane
attack. Both male and female from all portions of our society started a bloody
struggle against the Pakistani rulers. After a nine month struggle the Pakistan army
was forced to surrender unconditionally. Thus, the people of Bangladesh have
brought the independence from the oppressive Pakistani rulers. It is not only a day
of enjoyment but also a day of sorrow. It also makes us remember of our heroic sons
and daughters who laid their lives to bring the freedom. The victory day symbolizes
the triumph of justice over tyranny, of truth over falsehoods the Pakistani rulers. In
1971, Bangladesh discloses herself as a new country and gets a place in the world
map. On the 16th December we pompously celebrate the Victory Day every year.
The government has declared it a public holiday. Our national flag is hoisted at
schools, colleges, universities and even every institutions and offices of Bangladesh.
We pray to almighty Allah for the martyrs of our liberation war. Thus, we celebrate
the day with pleasures. So, we feel proud of our nation.
Flood in Bangladesh
Bangladesh is a land of natural calamities. As a monsoon country, Bangladesh
is often hit by storms, cyclones, tornados etc. Flood is one of them which visits
Bangladesh almost annually. Flood means when a dry land is swept over by a sudden
onrush (সবেবে সম্মুবে ধােমান হওয়া) of water. It occurs when rain falls continuously for days
together in the hilly region. The water then rolls down to the rivers. Most of our
rivers being shallow (অেভীর) they cannot carry down all the waters to sea. As a result,
water overflows the bank of rivers and submerges a vast area of land. Thus, flood
brings sorrows and sufferings to human’s life. It causes heavy loss of life and
property. Trees are uprooted, animals, dwelling houses, standing crops all are
washed away and damaged. All on a sudden people become homeless. Moreover,
there is scarcity of pure water. Price of essential commodities goes up. Epidemic
4. and famine broke out if preventive measures are not taken well ahead of time. Our
development hampered every year due to this flood problem. Our economy falls
down due to flood. So, government should take necessary steps to reduce the extent
and intensity of flood. They should build necessary dams and embankments
(বেড়ীোাঁ ধ)wherever necessary. The silt of river beds should be dredged up properly.
Though flood has many bad aspects, yet it has some good aspects. It washes away
impurities from land and make our land fertile by depositing silt on the soil. In spite
of having much bad effect we can say it as “An evil good”.
Gardening
Gardening is a pleasant occupation and a good pastime(অেসর). It is an
expression(প্রকাশ) of refreshment(সজীেতা) and taste. It is also an embodiment (মূতত প্রকাশ)
of man’s love for trees and plants of nature. Here, there are many kinds of green-
lining. There are flower gardens, kitchen gardens, fruit gardens, and botanical
gardens etc. Each of them acts a very important role. To work in a garden and spend
sometimes among green plants is like spending sometimes with nature. When a
person sees the garden full of various flowers, vegetables, fruits etc. his heart leaps
up with joy. It makes his body strong and mind sound(সুস্থ). It helps him to forget
sorrows and sufferings. It relieves him from monotony of the routine works. Thus,
he can give full attention to his daily works. A Gardener has to play the role of a
mother all the time. One cannot leave his garden to the care of servants. No good
mother ever leaves her children to a nurse. She feeds her children with her own
hands. So, his garden, too, needs his personal care. It needs his love. His love helps
it grow well. His garden requires food and water. But, above all, it requires love and
affection. A plant is something living. It feels as men and animals feel. So, one must
love leaves and flowers, as a lover loves his beloved. He should touch them gently.
His soft touch will make them smile. Who will not like to keep them smiling? After
all, a garden is a source of health, wealth and pleasure.
5. Hason Raja- The mystic poet of Bangladesh
Hason Raja was born in Sylhet in a rich family. He had a little formal education.
In his youth he used to lead a luxurious life. A time came when a change came over
him. He found all his comfort, pleasure and wealth meaningless. He gave away all
his wealth and property. He started to think deeply about the Creator, about life and
death and mankind. Hason Raja wrote a lot of songs; some say about a thousand in
number. His book called “Hason Udash” was published in 1906. The book had 206
songs in it. In his songs Hason called himself ‘Crazy Hason Raja’ or the ‘Pagla Hason
Raja’. A volume called ‘Hason Raja Samagra’ (Complete Works of Hason Raja) was
also published. The book contained 500 poems and songs. Some of the songs were
written by the poet in Hindi. Hason Raja’s songs were always popular in Sylhet. But
very soon they spread all over Bangladesh and beyond. In India’s West Bengal, some
eminent folk singers mad Hason’s songs popular. He tried to obtain connection with
God or spirits through thought and meditation. He expresses it through his songs or
poetry. So, Hason Raja literally Hason the king, called the mystic poet and songwriter
in Bengal, now called Bangladesh.

My Daily Activities
My daily activities constitute of the sum of what happens to me every day and
what I do according to a daily time-table. As I am a student, it includes all those
activities which are very useful for my overall growth and progress in life. Actually,
daily activities mean a routine life. I try my best to follow my daily routine.
Every day, I get up early in the morning, brush my teeth, wash my hands, face
and take my ablution and say my Fazar prayer. Then I go out for a walk in the open
air for about half an hour and come back home again. Once again, I wash my hands,
feet and face. After that I take my breakfast and sit at my reading table. I read for
three hours at a stretch. Nobody is allowed to enter my room during this time. I
make my lessons attentively.
After finishing my regular lessons, I take my bath and meal. Then I start for my
school at 10 a.m. because our school sits at 10.30 am. I always sit in the first bench
and listen to what my teachers say. I take down the important notes. In the off
period I do not move here and there. Rather I go to the common room and refresh
myself by taking part in indoor and outdoor games. At tiffin period I take tiffin and
say my Zohar prayer.
Our school breaks up at 4 p.m. Then I come back to my home straight.
Returning home, I wash my face, teeth, hands and feet very well and have my meal.
Then I say my Assar prayer. After taking a little rest, I go to the playground and return
home before the sunset.
Returning home, I take my ablution and say my Maghrib prayer. Then I sit at
my reading table and prepare my lessons till 10 p.m. After that I say my Esha prayer.
Then I take my supper and go to bed at 11 p.m. Besides this I read the daily
7. newspapers and weekly magazines. I enjoy television for half an hour. I also maintain
my personal dairy.
This is all about my daily activities. But there are minor changes. On Friday I
go to different places to remove monotony. So, during long vacation and holidays I
go to the house of my relatives. I also take part in social work.
A routine life is must for everybody to reach the goal of life. But it does not
mean that I do not bother about anything that happens in our family. I help my
parents whenever they need my help. Moreover, I take care of my little brother and
sister. Though is seems to me that my daily activities are little monotonous but I
believe, it is a planned one sufficient enough to give me a direction for success in
life.
Common Birds of Bangladesh
Bangladesh is a land of natural beauties. Birds have increased its beauty
immense more. We sleep at night and rise early in the morning hearing the sweet
songs of different birds.
There are various kinds of birds. They differ in size, color, nature and so on.
They are divided into various classes like- the teasing birds, the song birds, the game
birds and the plundering birds. There are uncommon birds known as guest birds.
They visit Bangladesh in every winter. They come from far-off cold countries of the
north.
8. Teasing birds are those that tease us often. The crow and the kite belong to
this class. The crow is nastier than the kite. They steal away whatever they can peak
at. They live of dead animals and all sorts of rotten and dirty things. But they are
useful for our eco-system. They balance the eco-system by eating the rotten and
dirty foods and thus keep the environment neat and clean.
Among song birds, the cuckoo is the most popular. It appears in the spring
season when flowers bloom and nature look gay and beautiful. It leaps from branch
to branch and twig to twig. It hides itself behind the leaves and from there is sings
sweet songs. The birds like parrots and mynah known as talking birds also belong to
this class. If trained they can talk like human beings. There are other song birds.
Magpie is our national bird. There are bou-katha-kao, the shalik etc. They are also
liked for their beautiful looks.
Game birds are liked for their tasty flesh. The pigeon, the dove, the snipe, the
heron, ducks, cranes and the teal are the game birds. The dove and pigeon may be
called song birds as they are noted for their ‘coos.’
Among plundering birds hawk is the most prominent. It has keen eyes, sharp
nails. The kite and the crow may also be included in the group. The other plundering
birds are the kingfisher and sea-gull.
Moreover, there are some common birds which we see around us. They are
the tuntuni, the bulbul, the sparrow etc. They are tiny birds. They show great skill in
weaving their nests. They are also called ‘weaving birds’.
There are some other birds like vulture and the owl. The vulture feed on dead
animals and rotten things. The owl is active at night. It has a grave look like a ‘bogus-
boo’ but is does not harm anybody. It lives on mice. Another bird known as wood-
peaker is a wild bird.
Birds are gift of nature. They keep our environment balance, neat and clean.
So, they should not kill for fun. They also refresh our mind and entertain us. So, we
should take care of save these birds from extinction.

10. LETTER
✓ Letter to friend about some good work that we can do
around us.

24 May 2015
My dear Sadia,
I am very happy to receive your letter of the 15th
instant. I am glad to hear that you and your family
members are good by the grace of Almighty Allah. Now, I would like to share about few ideas on some
good works that we can do around us.
We all know that Bangladesh is a developing country. Most of the people are leaving from hand to mouth.
They cannot eat regularly. So, we can save our tiffin money twice a week and give those money to poor
people. Moreover, we can cut our cost on cloths or dresses. Almost all occasion we buy a lot number of
dress most of them are left for unused a long time. So, we can give our old cloths to the needy people who
cannot buy their dresses. We also teach them ABCD of education so that they can read and write. A
notions development depends upon her educated people. Ours being an agriculture-based country, we can
go to village and inform the farmers about scientific method of cultivation. We also can do some little
works like- when a blind person cannot pass a busy road then we can help him to cross the road. We all
can behave well with all class of people. We should love juniors and respect seniors. Moreover, we can
do many such works that may be negligible by some people but these small works done by us will play a
vital role to change the society. These can include works like, if a puppy felt into a pond and cannot come
out then we can help it. While walking on road we should careful that no tiny insects died by falling down
under our footsteps.
No more today. Hope you will try to follow these things. If you have any more ideas that we can do then
please inform me. Also keep in mind that, serving the creations of Allah is to serve Allah.
Yours ever,
Priyonty

Dhaka-1206
24 May 2015
My dear Sadia,
I am very happy to receive your letter of the 15th
instant. I am glad to hear that you and your family
members are good by the grace of Almighty Allah. Now, I would like to share about some ideas on
remedies for common illness.
Most often it is seen that we suffer from various diseases like cough, common cold, fever, heartburn,
diarrhea etc. If some home remedies are known to us then we can decrease the severity of these diseases.
For cough we can eat grapes regularly because if helps us to get rid of severe coughs. Moreover, gargling
with a few cups of hot water with salt also stop coughing. For common cold garlic soup if praiseworthy.
A glass of lemon juice a day would raise the body’s resistance. Onion juice can also help to avoid cold.
For fever we can drink tea made with from saffron. A glass of milk also helps in this case. Taking bath
also very effective in this case. For heartburn fresh finger is very effective. It can be added to food when
it’s cooked or can be consumed as ginger tea. For Diarrhea we can make homemade saline. We also give
patient sufficient drinking water, juice etc. Above all, there are so many remedies for common illness.
No more today. Give my Salam to your parents. Share your ideas with me through your next letter. I will
be eagerly waiting for your next letter.
