Randall Kempner is the executive director of the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE), which supports small and growing businesses (SGBs) in developing countries. ANDE believes that by providing capital and support to SGBs, it can create millions of jobs and solutions to social problems. Kempner oversees ANDE's training programs and impact metrics. Originally formed in 2009, ANDE has grown to 167 members working globally to fund entrepreneurs and build SGBs in emerging markets. Through programs like its Capacity Development Fund, ANDE has provided over $474,000 in grants to strengthen SGB support organizations.

2. MR RANDALL kEMPNER
• He is the executive director of the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE).

—firms led by growth-oriented managers seeking between $20,000 and $2 million in capital—
those businesses will create millions of new jobs and innovative solutions to social and
environmental challenges in developing countries.

3. MR RANDALL KEMPNER
• His job description is to oversees the implementation of ANDE’s extensive programs and
agenda, including training programs for investing in emerging-market entrepreneurs, and
developing standardized financial, social and environmental metrics for impact investment.
• He has nearly twenty years of experience in the field and even served as Vice President for
Regional Innovation at the U.S. Council on Competitiveness.

4. HISTORY OF HIS VENTURE IN THE COMPANY
• In 2009, there were many players working to implement business solutions to poverty, but no
global network for that aim.
• ANDE was formed to create a collective voice for organizations that invest money and
expertise to help entrepreneurs develop and build SGBs in emerging markets.
• His company has grown from 34 founding members to 167 members today.

5. IMPACT OF HIS VENTURE
• This past summer, ANDE also completed the fourth round of its Capacity Development Fund
(CDF) competition. The CDF fund seeks to increase the productivity and effectiveness of
ANDE members, while creating tools and insights that can help the SGB sector as a whole.
This year ANDE provided nine grants totaling more than $474,000 to consortia representing
17 different organizations.
• Recently they launched the Argidius-ANDE Finance Challenge (AAFC) to generate new tools
and models to mobilise finance for promising but risky small businesses, therefore the
company selected five winners who each received 200,000 euros to develop their models to
unlock additional finance for SGBs out of the nearly 70 proposals they received.The most
promising business model would be awarded one million euros in the spring of 2014.
