Every 45 seconds, 100 new residents are added to urban areas globally as cities struggle to keep up with growing demands for services. Governments have not been able to innovate as quickly as needed. The World Bank proposes a co-creation approach to building smarter cities by engaging citizens, prioritizing issues, and co-creating solutions in three Colombian cities - Barranquilla, Cali, and Manizales - as a pilot. This involves creating a roadmap, identifying priorities, hacking events, an urban living lab, and a network of cities to share solutions. The goal is sustainable innovation that can apply to any city regardless of size or income level through public-private-people partnerships.
