General Format Guidelines:
• use legible, 12 pt. font
• double-spaced lines
• 1 in. margins on all sides
• do not skip extra spaces
between paragraphs
Header/Title Page:
• include your last name and
the page number in the top,
right-hand corner of every page
(headers must be in Times New
Roman)
• in the top left of the first page
of your paper, include:
Your Name
Instructor’s Name
Course (and section)
Number
Date
• center your title on the line
below your name and course
information
Works Cited Page:
• start a new page at the end of
paper/essay
• center the title “Works Cited”
at the top of the page
• do not skip extra spaces
between entries
• indent 0.5 in. (hanging indent)
on the second and following
lines of each entry
• entries are alphabetized by the
authors’ last names
Article from an Online Database:

• on the title page ONLY, the header is:

• center your title in the middle of the

Abstract:
•start a new page at the end of
paper/essay
• center the title “Abstract” at the top of
the page
• include a brief summary of key points
of research/essay, implications of
research, and ideas for future research
• keep between 150-200 words
References:

• every source cited in paper must
appear in the reference list, and every
entry in reference list must be cited in
the paper
• all lines after the first line of each
entry are indented ½ in. (hanging
indent)
• alphabetized by authors’ last names
• Include the Last name, 1st initial of all
authors (up to 7—if more than 7, use
ellipses after 6th author’s name and the
last author’s name)
• for unknown authors, use the
source’s title (shorten title for
parenthetical citations).
Academic Articles (Online & Print):
