SP Virtual Managed Services (VMS) for Intelligent WAN (IWAN)Cisco Canada
Many organizations anticipate significant growth in WAN bandwidth and Public Cloud usage. Leveraging the Internet to provide extra WAN bandwidth and to offload Public Cloud traffic is compelling, however network reliability, application performance and security are the primary roadblocks. Cisco IWAN transport solution is the most full featured architecture to support the Software Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) requirements that are emerging in standards bodies like the Open Networking User Group (ONUG) to address these issues. Many enterprises are looking for the benefits these technologies deliver, but without the costs associated with owning and operating those technologies. Here is where VMS for IWAN meets market need. Cisco VMS is a full featured management platform for both virtual and physical devices. This session will cover a full description of the VMS platform and how it can be used to deliver exceptional customer experience when supporting a managed offering of IWAN. The roles of Customer and Resource Facing Services will be covered, along with integration between the IWAN service and SP operations. This session will also cover the topic of how Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) can be placed optimally in the network from the CPE to SP datacenter, along with a demo of the end user and operator experience.
the vision of the Borderless Networks come to life, with more and more employees demanding flexibility in the way they work, when and where they work and on what devices they work.
Addressing BYOD is only the first step – allowing users to bring their own devices securely into the network.
But companies must move beyond basic BYOD connectivity to provide an uncompromised experience in any workspace.
Companies need to address the increased network usage, increased video usage, virtual desktops, etc.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Generating a custom Ruby SDK for your web service or Rails API using Smithyg2nightmarescribd
Have you ever wanted a Ruby client API to communicate with your web service? Smithy is a protocol-agnostic language for defining services and SDKs. Smithy Ruby is an implementation of Smithy that generates a Ruby SDK using a Smithy model. In this talk, we will explore Smithy and Smithy Ruby to learn how to generate custom feature-rich SDKs that can communicate with any web service, such as a Rails JSON API.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Because the complexity of the network grows as digitization takes over IT, customers are wanting to:
Simplify WAN/branch management: Some organizations have thousands of branches or remote sites and managing them can get difficult with the diversity in location as well as diversity in types of branches and users. Simplifying the branch and WAN connections from the branch can save IT lots of time and money invested in keeping the business running.
MPLS can get expensive depending on the location of the branch office and reducing those costs can add up.
As applications move into the cloud and number of apps that users (employees, customers, partners) use change as well as quantity rise, users expect great application experience. People expect their business apps to run like recreational apps and the mixture of the two in an enterprise network is now a must.
Cisco 2017 3.2Midyear Cybersecurity Report. (3.24hours time to detection (TTD)
The Network. Intuitive. A platform that is constantly learning / adapting / protecting (security) and is built on Cisco Digital Network Architecture (DNA)
This continuous loop of defining intent, collecting context, learning, and then optimizing the network base on those insights is intent based networking. The combination of Cisco’s Intent based, secure infrastructure with DNA Center’s single point of policy definition, context collection, and learning will become a powerful new approach to building and scaling enterprise networks.
DNA Center is a new centralized management dashboard which is used to translate business goals (intent) into network policy. DNA Center is powered by three key engines:
Policy control is provided by the Identity Service Engine (ISE)
Automation is provided by APIC-EM
Analytics is provided by the Network Data Platform (NDP)
DNA Center is the “command and control center” of the Intent based infrastructure, including our routing (ISR 4000/ASR 1000), switching (Catalyst 9K) and wireless products (Aironet 1800/2800/3800).
Security is embedded into the networking, to full protect all points in the the network.
The network and see and block all threats – even those in encrypted traffic using the new Encrypted Traffic Analytics (ETA)
The network infrastructure also provides 360 visibility which gives Context that supports the continuous learning through DNA Center.
Bottom left, automation provides a huge opportunity to take cost out of their operating expenses. Moving from a model where every device on the network has a CLI and was configured independently. But we are in an environment now of central points of control which can push out the change to the devices at scale – this drives significant savings
