The OpenPOWER Foundation is a non-profit organization launched in 2013 with over 350 global members. Its mission is to accelerate adoption of the open source POWER instruction set architecture (ISA) and other open technologies. In 2019, it fully open sourced the POWER ISA. The POWER architecture plays a significant role in high-performance computing (HPC) by providing a proven, flexible and community-driven instruction set. Leading supercomputers like Summit and Sierra use the POWER architecture. The Foundation's workgroups focus on areas like the ISA, accelerators, software enablement and a new HPC workgroup. It is committed to open interconnect technologies like OpenCAPI and collaborates to investigate new use cases
