Christmas in Ukraine is celebrated on January 7th according to the Julian calendar. It is one of the most important holidays in Ukraine where people commemorate the birth of Christ. Traditions include visiting family on Christmas Eve, attending festive church services, singing carols while carrying an eight-pointed star symbolizing the Star of Bethlehem, and decorating Christmas trees which symbolize resurrection. Children also receive gifts on Christmas. The winter holiday season following Christmas is called Yule and includes other celebrations.
