Christmas traditions vary throughout Greece but often involve music, food, fire, and protecting against evil spirits. In Central Greece, on Christmas Eve people get water from taps at midnight that was previously blessed with butter, cheese or baked goods. In many areas, people "marry" fire by burning a log made from a male and female tree to remove goblins. Children still carol from house to house, singing and playing instruments in exchange for money or treats to celebrate the season.
