DCPL uses cloud computing services from Amazon EC2 and Google to host several digital initiatives. This includes Dclibrary.org, their digital image archive built on Alfresco, and Google Docs for staff collaboration. They chose the cloud for its speed, lower costs compared to alternatives, and ability to maximize performance and technology flexibility. Benefits include enhanced staff collaboration, quick expansion of sites and services, and more time spent on content rather than infrastructure support. Future plans include migrating more systems to the cloud like the OPAC and providing cloud-based services directly to customers.
