Workshop: Tech futures: Innovating pedagogy
Bournemouth University has already hosted its first holographic lecture, presented by BBC Arts editor Will Gompertz; is building an immersive suite; and is exploring technobooths of the future – but what technologies are there that are pedagogically sound, low cost, and can be delivered at scale? This interactive workshop will introduce participants to emergent technologies that will reflect the recent Open University Innovating Pedagogy Report on new forms of teaching, learning and assessment for an interactive world. It invites attendees to become active participants in productive innovation, and invites them to consider how they will meet the challenges of embedded these into daily teaching and learning.
Workshop facilitators: Dr Dave Fevyer, Innovation & Technology Manager; TEL Innovation & Development Service; Tracey Webb, Learning Technologist, Stephen Pyne, Learning Technologists, Dave Hunt, learning Technoloist, Dr Ben Goldsmith, researcher and Impact Lead, Dr Ann Luce, Principal Academic and Theme Leader for Technology Enhanced Learning and Debbie Holley, Professor of Learning Innovation.

Technology is rapidly transforming the way we live, learn, work and interact. This paper aims to highlight and support debate around how we ‘teach digital’ in creative arts education and what potential impacts the UK digital economy could have on current and emerging digital practices and open education.
Emergent technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) can present new challenges for teachers who are struggling to integrate evolving digital practices into the curriculum. As a result, new technologies & practices remain inaccessible and therefore reside outside the curriculum, not too dissimilar to challenges faced by those exploring open education integration at University of the Arts London (UAL).
The pace of technological change and its impact on the day-to-day practices of University staff and students is fast becoming an issue for everyone. Could the process of Digital Transformation be an opportunity for the open education movement & communities to explore new models of mainstream integration?

To provide better education to children from different socio-economic backgrounds, the Thai Government launched the ‘‘One Tablet PC Per Child’’ (OTPC) policy and distributed 800,000 tablet computers to first-grade students across the country in 2012. This initiative is an opportunity to study how mobile learning and Internet of Things (IoT) technology can be designed for students in underprivileged areas of northern Thailand. In this position paper, we present a prototype, called OBSY (Observation Learning System) which targets primary science education. OBSY consists of i) a sensor device, developed with low-cost open source singled-board computer Raspberry Pi, housed in a 3D printed case, ii) a mobile device friendly graphical interface displaying visualisations of the sensor data, iii) a self-contained DIY Wi-Fi network which allows the system to operate in an environment with inadequate ICT infrastructure.

Modelling 100+ Applications for Learning ActivitiesYannis Kotsanis
Several attempts have been made and approaches have been developed to relate traditional classroom practices and actions with the continuously evolving technology. One of the most known, is based in the Revised Bloom Taxonomy (by Anderson and Krathwohl), and has spread, among others, as Digital Taxonomies, and are now referred to as Digital Competences. Some of these approaches or models involve a hierarchy of cognitive levels, and try to relate action verbs, with educational activities and corresponding applications. Different implementations of the aforementioned models and frameworks exist. We choose to present two approaches, based on models, that contain 100+ apps usable and suitable for education and every-day school activities.

Learning and exploring with new technology at Dundee and Angus CollegeJisc
The Learning Lab at Dundee and Angus College is a space to promote the use of innovative technology through hands on learning, with the support of learning technologies staff.
In this demo you will see examples of how staff and learners have the opportunity to explore, experiment, create and learn using emerging technology in a safe, exciting space full of technology, which includes virtual and augmented reality, 3D capture/printing and drones.
The facility creates a 21st century learning experience which stimulates and enhances the student experience as well as providing opportunities to develop new skills
DisCo 2013: Štogr - Identity Building Through Gamification And Digital Badges8th DisCo conference 2013
The lifetime of skills and particular knowledge is getting shorter and the new skills for new future positions are being currently obtained as part of lifelong learning process. Even if a part of these processes is actually recognized and fixed in a form of degrees, certificates and references, some of these achievements could become obsolete, some of them not useful in current practice and sometimes even weird. Nevertheless, these (learning) goals were reached; the learning process as such could be a fruitful life-lesson and the key factor for the future success. The huge potential of Mozilla Open Badge Infrastructure (MOBI) – and in general any system that provides digital badges as a kind of incentive or reward – is therefore in collaborative setting that allows comparison with other “players” and mapping the progress "against the others". Without the possibility of comparison, building of e-portfolio becomes much more about storytelling, creating diary or blog and adding a context to selected achievements. Any knowledge provider issuing badges should therefore be able to provide additional information about the complexity of learning environment (incl. statistics), not only short description of criteria as requested in MOBI. This paper further describes opportunities and possible practical usage of gamification and digital badges for stimulation of (lifelong) learning

Digital Making in Arts Curriculum, Practice and Career
Venue: Tate Modern, Tate Exchange, Switch House, Southwark Room, Level 5, London SE1 9TG
This Unconference provides an opportunity for staff, students, sector and industry to discuss and explore the impacts and challenges of new technologies on art, design & performance in curriculum and practice. Staff, students, sector & industry are invited (limited places & RSVP c.follows@arts.ac.uk essential) to join an informal participant-driven discussion which will reflect and build on the experiences of recent Digital Making Art School events at Tate Exchange in February & March 2017 and will question: How we integrate digital making in arts curriculum & practice?
University of the Arts London (UAL) has led the field in open education & digital literacies activities & projects in arts subjects over the past eight years, mostly through external or part funded projects[i]. However awareness of open educational resources (OER), Open Educational Practice (OEP) and digital making remain under the radar, outside mainstream pedagogic practice. Staff and students lack confidence, skills and awareness or can criticality engage and challenge practices such as self-archiving, online identities, online presence[ii], digital making and physical computing.
This paper aims to explore the widening gap between formal pedagogic practices (institutional) and the informal emergent digital domains and practices (Grassroots) within arts learning & teaching.
How do we reconcile these differences?
Chris will share the experiences and challenges of the digital learning, teaching and enhancement work at CCW (Camberwell, Chelsea, and Wimbledon Colleges of Arts) in the development of formal digital learning and teaching practices along side the emergent informal grassroots learning practices.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
