Evil behavior cans emanate from different areas. Such areas of study are themed. According to Bartlett (2008), mental illness promotes the theme of the psychology of morality. Survival promotes the theme of the science of evil. Demeaning cultural activities support the theme of sociological perspective. Fun and excitement promote the theme of the psychology of morality.
Javaid (2015) says that from the examples given by Hitler and Kim Jong-Hu among others who commit evil crimes are adults. People with weak morals will take to evil deeds quickly. People with mental illness have unstable decisions that make them do unknowingly evil deeds. Persons who are candidates for mental health need to be put under rehabilitation where they are on a 24-hour surveillance. Cain in the Bible is recorded as the first person to have murdered his brother Abel. He killed out of jealous for Abel’s sacrifice had been accepted and his rejected. 1. I think what is meant by sociological imagination is being a very open minded person who looks at sociological interactions and what influences it. A person who is able to look at a situation, and pull away from what they know and look at it at a different lens. A benefit of developing a sociological eye is that it will look at problem in different ways and come up with with different solutions. Some other benefits is that it gives an individual more knowledge and insight for a community, a society and as a whole.
2. I think what Mills was trying to say in this quote is that Society turns women into a "slave" for men. Men are described as "Chief Providers"(McIntyre pg16). Women are dependent on the men after they get married, and that in a marriage, no satisfactory solution can be made unless a 3rd party is at part. Basically saying that society is the reason why marriage is not satisfied for couples. Coontz would agree with this because society standards cause arguments in relationships. It says in her article that "Social differences limit how fair or equal a personal relationship between two individuals from the different groups..."(Coontz 12). Saying that two individuals in a relationhip will always be affected since they come from various groups in society. Another thing she was saying was that "various groups... have unequal access to economic resources, political power, social status". These differences causes problems in marriages, just like what Mills was saying in his quote. Saying that Marriages are affected by a 3rd party, or affected by something else like inequality, and differences.
3. A person with an individualistic view looks at what a person does as an individual. They would examine what drives a person to commit crimes, and fix it from what they are driven from. However the sociologist view is a little different. It talks about how an individual learns from society, and influences them to commit crimes. Saying people who are criminals learn it from other people around them. Sociologist would try to reduce crimes by creating a better environment to where people are not influenced negatively.
4. Out of the three theoretical perspectives described from McIntyre, I thought the Functionalist perspective was the most interesting one. It talks about how a society works together in order to function. We pay tax to the state, and then the state funds school, where kids go to school. This perspective basically says that our society works as a circle, trying to reach equilibriu.

Problem Statement
America is very well known for school violence, and more specifically, school shootings.
Seventeen people were killed and more than 15 injured in a mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman
Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on 14 February 2018, bringing the total number of
school shootings in the United States since the beginning of the year to 18 (or roughly three per
week). This is the most recent shooting where there have been mass casualties, and this
ultimately started the debate on what defines a “school shooting”, because of the rising gun
violence. The difficulty of agreeing on a common definition of "school shooting" shows just how
many different types of firearm incidents occur on school grounds. The difficulty of defining it
just highlights how common it is to find guns on school grounds — in the hands of intruders,
security personnel, and the students themselves (Emery).
Literature Reviews/Discussion
The first academic journal, Adolescent Masculinity, Homophobia, and Violence, talks
about the two main points’ people debate on what is to blame for gun violence. Those two points
are the availability of guns and mental health. Students report being increasingly afraid to go to
school; among young people aged 12 to 24, 3 in 10 say violence has increased in their schools in
the past year. The concern over school shootings has prompted intense national debate, in recent

years, over who or what is to blame. The internet, daycare, movies, and other forms of media
have been blamed for the rising violence, but people mainly focus on the gun availability and
mental health debates. Firearms are the second leading cause of death to children between ages
10 and 14 and the eighth leading cause of death to those ages 1 to 4 (Kimmel). Some people
blame it on the fact that there are too many guns that are easily available, and others believe all
of this violence happens because there aren't enough guns. Big brands like Dicks have taken a
stance on this debate and raised the age requirement to purchase a firearm. The other debate
focuses on the mental health of the attacker. They say that the reason people go on killing sprees
is because they aren’t completely put together and they had a bad childhood. This doesn’t always
add up, however, because almost all the shooters came from intact and relatively stable families,
with no history of child abuse. If they had psychological problems at all, they were relatively
minor, and went unnoticed (Kimmel).
The second journal, School Shootings, the Media, and Public Fear, focuses on school
shootings as a moral panic, and it also looks at the roles played by the media and politicians in
using isolated incidents to support their interests or distract the public eye. In the .

and he saw it transforming personal troubles into public
issues. Let us begin our discussion this week by
considering suicide, which is thoroughly explored in
Chapter 1 of the textbook.
For the initial post, address the following:
How does the sociological imagination help to
examine private acts such as suicide within a
larger societal context?
What are some examples of social forces
influencing youth suicide trends in the United
States, suicide trends in India, and suicide trends
in the U.S. military?
Use the sociological imagination to explain your
observations, and how the sociological
imagination helps us consider the causes and
possible solutions to suicide.

Two Classes
The concept of social conflict has been developed into two distinct theories of juvenile delinquency. They are:
Social Structure Theories
Delinquency is caused by a person’s place in the
economic structure of society.
Social Process Theories
Delinquency is caused by a person’s interaction with corrupt or
disturbed members of society
Social Structure
All Social Structure Theories are based on the concept that modern capitalist society is divided (stratified) based on economic levels
Crime is most likely to form in the underclasses of society, where a culture of poverty changes the civic values and ethics of children, from generation to generation.
As children are more formative and fragile, they are more prone to the negative effects of poverty.
Racial inequality also fuels the cycle of poverty, as certain classes in society have less opportunities.
The Three forms of Structure
1) Social Disorganization
Clifford Shaw and Henry McKay first developed the social disorganization theory. The premise of this theory is that the breakdown of the sense of community creates social unrest. The connection of a person to their community is the single greatest deterrent to criminal behavior.
People are less likely to participate in crime, if there is a social stigma or shame, to being identified as a criminal against the community.
Modern Disorganization
Shaw and McKay based their theories on the concept that as a city expanded, neighborhoods would break down, and the city as a whole would lose it’s sense of continuity.
As American society has become more mobile and transient, cities have radically changed. The modern Disorganization Theory is Social Ecological Theory.
Social Ecology
Social Ecology states that criminal behavior is directly linked to breakdowns in a community structure. These breakdowns come from:
Seeing physically abandoned buildings and decay
Poverty
Fear of crime or corrupt law enforcement
Siege Mentality
Loss of a community identity (race, religion, ethnicity)
Loss of social controls (family, peers, mentors, role models)
A Strain on us all
2) Strain Theory
Strain Theory holds that while most people have the same goals and desires out of life, the feeling of being locked out, or not having the opportunity to achieve those same goals, is the impetus for criminal behavior.

Problem Statement
America is very well known for school violence, and more specifically, school shootings.
Seventeen people were killed and more than 15 injured in a mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman
Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on 14 February 2018, bringing the total number of
school shootings in the United States since the beginning of the year to 18 (or roughly three per
week). This is the most recent shooting where there have been mass casualties, and this
ultimately started the debate on what defines a “school shooting”, because of the rising gun
violence. The difficulty of agreeing on a common definition of "school shooting" shows just how
many different types of firearm incidents occur on school grounds. The difficulty of defining it
just highlights how common it is to find guns on school grounds — in the hands of intruders,
security personnel, and the students themselves (Emery).
Literature Reviews/Discussion
The first academic journal, Adolescent Masculinity, Homophobia, and Violence, talks
about the two main points’ people debate on what is to blame for gun violence. Those two points
are the availability of guns and mental health. Students report being increasingly afraid to go to
school; among young people aged 12 to 24, 3 in 10 say violence has increased in their schools in
the past year. The concern over school shootings has prompted intense national debate, in recent

years, over who or what is to blame. The internet, daycare, movies, and other forms of media
have been blamed for the rising violence, but people mainly focus on the gun availability and
mental health debates. Firearms are the second leading cause of death to children between ages
10 and 14 and the eighth leading cause of death to those ages 1 to 4 (Kimmel). Some people
blame it on the fact that there are too many guns that are easily available, and others believe all
of this violence happens because there aren't enough guns. Big brands like Dicks have taken a
stance on this debate and raised the age requirement to purchase a firearm. The other debate
focuses on the mental health of the attacker. They say that the reason people go on killing sprees
is because they aren’t completely put together and they had a bad childhood. This doesn’t always
add up, however, because almost all the shooters came from intact and relatively stable families,
with no history of child abuse. If they had psychological problems at all, they were relatively
minor, and went unnoticed (Kimmel).
The second journal, School Shootings, the Media, and Public Fear, focuses on school
shootings as a moral panic, and it also looks at the roles played by the media and politicians in
using isolated incidents to support their interests or distract the public eye. In the .

considering suicide, which is thoroughly explored in
Chapter 1 of the textbook.

Two Classes
The concept of social conflict has been developed into two distinct theories of juvenile delinquency. They are:
Social Structure Theories
Delinquency is caused by a person’s place in the
economic structure of society.
Social Process Theories
Delinquency is caused by a person’s interaction with corrupt or
disturbed members of society
Social Structure
All Social Structure Theories are based on the concept that modern capitalist society is divided (stratified) based on economic levels
Crime is most likely to form in the underclasses of society, where a culture of poverty changes the civic values and ethics of children, from generation to generation.
As children are more formative and fragile, they are more prone to the negative effects of poverty.
Racial inequality also fuels the cycle of poverty, as certain classes in society have less opportunities.
The Three forms of Structure
1) Social Disorganization
Clifford Shaw and Henry McKay first developed the social disorganization theory. The premise of this theory is that the breakdown of the sense of community creates social unrest. The connection of a person to their community is the single greatest deterrent to criminal behavior.
People are less likely to participate in crime, if there is a social stigma or shame, to being identified as a criminal against the community.
Modern Disorganization
Shaw and McKay based their theories on the concept that as a city expanded, neighborhoods would break down, and the city as a whole would lose it’s sense of continuity.
As American society has become more mobile and transient, cities have radically changed. The modern Disorganization Theory is Social Ecological Theory.
Social Ecology
Social Ecology states that criminal behavior is directly linked to breakdowns in a community structure. These breakdowns come from:
Seeing physically abandoned buildings and decay
Poverty
Fear of crime or corrupt law enforcement
Siege Mentality
Loss of a community identity (race, religion, ethnicity)
Loss of social controls (family, peers, mentors, role models)
A Strain on us all
2) Strain Theory
Strain Theory holds that while most people have the same goals and desires out of life, the feeling of being locked out, or not having the opportunity to achieve those same goals, is the impetus for criminal behavior.

Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
