Insulin resistance can lead to weight gain when carbohydrates are consumed with protein. Consuming carbohydrates with protein or dairy is a good way to lower the glycemic index and have a good metabolic combination to prevent weight gain caused by insulin resistance. Some examples of good carbohydrate and protein combinations include fruit and yogurt, cereal and skim milk, smoothies with protein and fruit, bread with eggs or cottage cheese, and rice with fish as in sushi.
