This document provides information on chlordane and hexachlorobutadiene. Chlordane is an amber colored pesticide that was previously used for pest control and is now banned in the US due to its toxicity. It is fat soluble and can bioaccumulate in the environment. Hexachlorobutadiene is used in rubber compounds and solvents. It has a turpentine smell and breaks down readily in soil, but can accumulate in fish and shellfish. Both substances are suspected carcinogens and exposure can cause nervous system, liver and kidney damage.
