This document summarizes research on two organocatalytic reactions: 1) The synthesis of anti-1,2-diols from α-oxyaldehydes using chiral imidazolidinones and organometallic reagents, which achieved excellent diastereoselectivity. 2) The first ever α,β,γ-trioxygenation of enals using a tryptophan-derived imidazolidinone catalyst, which installed three chiral centers with moderate enantioselectivity through a dynamic kinetic resolution. The researchers also elucidated the mechanism of the novel trioxygenation reaction.
